The great recruiter / mister energy is whiffing on a number of levels.

That whole lengthy profile of his rah-rah stuff rings pretty hollow with inferior results.

It's one year and not his recruits. Let's establish a bit of a track record before we proclaim him Tim Brewster II. Unlike Basement Brew, Fleck has an actual college coaching resume that has been pretty successful. I get it. The row the oat and other rah-rah stuff is pretty monotonous without wins, but he is who he is and if the program progresses in the next couple of years like his previous coaching gigs, it will be pretty easy to live with.

And a bowl update; it now looks like there is a very strong probability that there will be no 5 win teams going a bowl. The odds are very strong at this point that there will be enough 6 win teams to fill all of the games. The Gophers need 3 slots to open for 5 win teams.

So it's wait til next year

Or the year after that.

Why is it that other coaches can turn it around.

And why was this needed to be turned around? was the cupboard that bare? bleh

Most coaches don't turn it around in year 1. There is a reason the Gophers were picked to finish about where they are. They have absolutely nothing on either line. They have no QB's (Leidner would be an upgrade and I didn't think that was possible). Their best defensive player was lost for the year. This is basically a team with a stable of good running backs and linebackers and that's about it.

The witch hunt cost them a lot of defensive players and the bad thing about Claeys is he couldn't recruit....he had a very poor recruiting class coming in.

To add to that Claeys and Kill's offense were lacking. They coached and recruited great defensive players. Their offenses were lacking in recruits and coaching on the offense/offensive side.

Last year was the max that Claeys/Kill could give us...9-3 when we have a favorable record.

So it's ok to be a 5-win team and look forward to some day MAYBE being decent?

I'm not ok with that.

I think the jury is still out on Fleck but outside of the RB and Tyler Johnson we don't have enough talent on offense to compete with the big boys. We had 4-5 healthy Olineman most of the summer. What the hell was Claeys doing on the recruiting trail.

Look, I'm not crowning his ass by any means, but I need to see a lot more before I relegate Fleck to Brewster status.

There is a lot of work for Fleck to do...but I think he is the best coach for us. The one thing I am most impressed with is how many Freshman he redshirted....he had to be tempted to pull Seth Green's Redshirt. He might be our QB....

Despite Tim's depressing news about the possibility of no 5-win teams making a bowl game, I am still holding out for a bowl game this season!

You should have went last year....I don't care to travel to see a 5-win team.

All the angst over PJ aside ...
If he gets the boys to produce a miracle on Saturday ....
I give him a lifetime extension immediately after the game. And a hefty raise.
No win would be sweeter, ever. (and yes I realize the chances are none and none)
Would be the biggest win since 1977.
I got a feeling we might play pretty well. Been thinking about this one all year. It would turn the program around, and it would be Wiscys most painful loss ever.
What more incentive do we need?

Turns out he didn't need a win this weekend to get that extension.

The athletic department consulted with Mpls/St.Paul and calculated that extra year was needed in figuring out when they could hold a championship parade.

So Fleck basically gets a pass on the year. Am sure the alumni love that. Ticket holders, too.

Fleck has termed this season "Year Zero."
