No it doesn't. Green hasn't shown anything. He was already red shirted the year before. If he had anything, he would have played. He couldn't beat Croft or Rhoda.

I think he was part of the wash from the Witch Hunt. Not sure what happened there but I know that he has a big arm and is athletic.

He's young, he still might grow into something. But the Gophers might be better served to bring in a more seasoned juco guy while recruiting and developing the next big thing.

Makes it a bit tougher to recruit the next big thing when we don't get the national exposure of a bowl game though.

That's why we should have scheduled an easier pre-Big 10 schedule. Thanks Jerry Kill!!

Scary.... PJ needs to pull off a couple of big signees at QB.

Did the JC guy commit over the weekend?

Wasn't Croft supposed to be a BIG DEAL when he committed to the U? If I'm not mistaken, Sweeney was doing freakin' jumping jacks that day. I've never been so embarrassed watching a Gophers QB. Dude made Mitch Leidner look like John Elway.

Well, that’s a good start. And he does have 3 years of eligibility left.

Currently, we have the best recruiting class in the Western division of the Big 10.

Wasn't that Brewster's claim to fame as well?
Just like every Gophers team since Tony Dungy was the QB and I was going to games with the "Knot Hole" gang, I will be skeptical of any QB recruited to the U......

Let's hope that next year is a marked improvement. They desperately need to hit on a QB recruit for once. Viramontes is supposed to be the #1 dual threat juco QB. I hope passing is the bigger of the two threats.

The 6-1, 230-pounder began his visit with Fleck and the Gophers on Sunday. Rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and as the No. 1 dual-threat QB among junior college players in the Class of 2018, Viramontes also was heavily recruited by Kansas and received an offer from Mississippi last week.

With Croft’s departure, Viramontes would join a quarterback competition that currently includes Tanner Morgan, a freshman who spent this season as a redshirt; and Seth Green, the former East Ridge standout who will be a third-year sophomore next season.

Basement Brew was a career position coach before he got the Gopher job. Fleck at least has a successful track record as a head coach in D2. I don't know what Fleck's potential is as a division 1 college coach, but I can already tell that he is a hell of lot better than Punky Brewster.

He will have three years of eligibility at Minnesota, and with the departure of Demry Croft, Viramontes is almost certain to be the Gophers’ starting quarterback next season, barring the emergence of Seth Green or Tanner Morgan.

Get to know Vic Viramontes
Height: 6’2’’
Weight: 225
40: 4.52

Power 5 Scholarship Offers: Kansas and Ole Miss

247 Sports Composite Rating: .8778
247 Sports Scouting Report:

“Viramontes is dual threat quarterback who can beat a team with his arm or his legs. He might actually be more advanced as a runner than a pure thrower but in the right system, he can definitely play QB in college. He has the size, athleticism and toughness to move to defense as well and could end up at LB or safety. He's a very physical player, loves contact and is a highly competitive kid.”

Junior College Career

Viramontes helped lead the Riverside City College Tigers to a 10-2 record, but came up short of the state championship game after falling to Fullerton College in the semifinals. He finished the season 126-of-212 (59.4%) for 1,868 passing yards with 22 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, and rushed for a team-leading 1,346 rushing yards on 183 attempts with 21 rushing touchdowns.

He was named National Central League Offensive Player of the Year.

I gotta say, those are throws I haven't seen a Gopher QB make in a long time. Probably not since Mike Hohensee, the Throwin Samoan. I hope it translates to D1 success.

6'2 225 lbs - That kid's built like a linebacker. If the comments on one of his videos are correct, he benches 335 and squats 485.

Any explanation for why he left Cal, beyond PJ's magical recruiting? Was he stuck behind other QBs?

Gotta put some guys around him. You can't have little polish guys running around as your top wide receiver and expect to win in the Big Ten. Viramontes probably had better talent at wide receiver this season at RCC than they had in Minnesota. He wasn't there last season, but Riverside had Torii Hunter's kid at wide receiver in 2016. They've had some pretty good guys at QB the past few years. Most notably Skyler Howard, who was very good at West Virginia.

Lots of turnover at Cal. Another QB left Cal for Saddleback JUCO (Max Gilliam), who was also good this season in a rotation.

Quarterback is a fickle position. Only one guy plays and most of those guys are not used to sitting.

I think it was a coaching change and the new coach had a different offense.

According to this, it sounds like a numbers thing. He was 4th on the depth chart.

If I had a million bucks laying around, would have put it on OSU to beat Wiscy.
Zero chance for a team like Wisconsin to take down one of the big boys in that type of game.
Easy call.

Looks like Fleck closed out his recruiting with a bang. He picked up a 4 star, gigantic OG and his even more gigantic LT linemate. A lot of top programs were recruiting these 2.
