Well. Pressure's on boys.
You're all some of us have left around these parts.
Please keep stepping forward with the program.

Starts by handling a Nebraska team that will be more ready for us than any we've seen so far.

6-7 point favorite over Nebraska.
Sounds like Nebraska will be missing both Martinez and Spielman. Frost won't comment on injuries unless they are season ending. The Nebraska offense is not as good as last years even with both of them.

No offense man, but I'm using this to illustrate my point. The MN Gophers are a TD fav over Nebraska

We are headed in a good direction. That was a headline you would see, what? 30 years ago?

We have issues but I'm really starting to like this Fleck thing. His weird 'row the boat' thing has settled down and he's starting to win games I would have laughed off.

We got some big ones coming up though that will let us know where we are in the food chain.

30 Years ago the Gophers would have been 30 point underdogs against Nebraska.

Jeff I think I felt the same about Fleck’s style as you. I was first aware of Fleck when he had the Cotton Bowl game vs Wisconsin. They showed a clip of him giving a hackneyed rah rah speech, and did a profile on him and I remember thinking, “I would HATE having him coach Minnesota”. So of course, he ends up coaching Minnesota.

But the thing is, his team gave Wisconsin all it could handle. They were impressive. So I figured this guy must be doing something right. I’ll give him a chance.

See, I don’t have to like his style and you don’t have to, but the players seem to love it, and he’s a heck of a recruiter too. He was a elementary education major, and he uses those methods in coaching... on steroids. It probably isn’t the dumbest approach to treat your players like overgrown 3rd graders.

And though he still makes me cringe at least 5 times every interview or show or press conference or speech he gives, I remember there could be worse things than having a tireless energizer bunny promoting the program.

Re-watched the Illini game
LOVE those B10 replays
Had no idea Papa Smurf was coaching Illinois
I thought it was Lovie Howell III

Anyway … we are starting to roll people physically up front, I like it.
And our D is full of whackers. Come up and whack you. I like it.
Big test this weekend
Really could tell us what we are. Its just enough of a test to see whats real and whats not with this team.

Bingo. He doesn't have to present himself in a way that we Baby Boomers love. He needed to present himself in a way that makes Millenials and now Generation Z fired up. He seems to have that in spades. He is getting players to come here that we never had a shot at in the past. Mason and Kill were mediocre recruiters, but were that old school, we'll just coach up the guys we get. Basement Brew was supposed to be this big recruiter. Unfortunately, he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. Fleck seems to be able to do both.

I have to admit that after watching pretty much all of the Illini game I came away impressed by the improvement I saw from the first couple of games of the season.
As usual, my expectations to start the season were probably higher than they should have been instead of just watching the game and enjoying it. Last Saturday I was just watching with no big expectations and it was fun to see them control the game and play good football.

After the Gophers win today they will be ranked right? Isn't their some kind of law about being ranked when you play in a major conference and go 6-0?

Michigan making our Illini win look not-so-impressive any more.

I'm guessing
Wisconsin
Penn state
Minnesota
Maryland. Though they are down 14 points.

Only time all year I want the Gophers to lose.

I honestly don't think Martinez is playing. We will have a 1st time starter.
I do think Spielman is playing.
We are much weaker on offense this year even with Martinez. Weak OL and a frosh Center who can't snap a ball accurately.
Robinson our Frosh RB/Wr is are one impressive player to date.

Minnesota is 9-3 since last year's Nebraska game? They have improved so much.

Purdue wins 40-14.
Illini came within 3 but Michigan lead back to 10 35-25 and Illini fumbled on next play. Michigan ball on Ilini 20.
