All in all, I don't know how we can look at this season as a failure in any way. The Gophers were picked to finish second to last and they finished within a win of the Big Ten championship game

I don't.
It's been a blast.

I've stayed very calm on these losses. I took heat weeks back for saying we hadn't won anything until we beat these last two opponents.
We're getting closer. And that's what my comments today were meant to convey.
As you say, it takes time to become one of those teams who can compete with anyone. It's our first year knocking on that door.
My point was simply, it's easy to fall back. Sure hoping we don't.

I know what you were saying. I was agreeing with it. Maybe, I wasn't clear on that point.

S'all good
I'm just doing the usual round-about rehashing.

Given how little the run game was working early
Or later

Not Ever having Green pass this year bit them in the biggest play early in the game

And that play (why suddenly go tot that, there?) using Green at midfield, imo, punched us in the mouth
He got rocked on the run.
Our power guy was stuffed. It almost was like you could feel our guys going "uh-ohhhhh"

Wisconsin is probably the better team but I'd like to see us play them in good weather. Our strength going in was our ability to throw and the conditions did NOT do us any favors.

Soft schedule, sure, next year doesn't look that hard either. No OSU or PSU. Odd that Iowa and Wiscy are early games next year. Expectations are raised, can they better their best? Will definitely miss the Sr's but the cupboard isn't bare. Hit the weights boys, can't be shoved around next year like we were against Hawkeyes and Badgers.

Fleck has some in game improving to do for sure.

Win the Bowl game and keep rowing all winter.

I have an "in" on the Gopher offensive line (have tried to not say too much about that) … I know one of them personally and have seen the others in passing, off the field. Anyway, I would have to say our OLine has size.
As far as nasty, our OLine has size. As far as quickness, our OLine has size. Just saying, it's always worried me, when we got to see some "real" DLines.
Recruit some nasty, please.

It did not help losing Martin and the Oline behemoth early
Actually loved the early play calling, it was another game where our OC set them up perfectly for the early TD
His game plan seemed to fall apart later, but the dude was ready to roll

Felt like if we had finished that second drive, we may be talking about a different outcome today.

The offensive game plan fell apart when Faalele got injured. That was when Wisconsin started to dominate physically. It also took away the 6 offensive lineman sets they love to use. They were unable to adjust in game to it.

I like your Size analogy
Yeah size is ok until someone’s matching up

Iowa and Wisconsin are known for tough lines

Minnesota has a ways to go

I mentioned it yesterday. That play, as you correctly say, was so odd for that part of the field, I was dead set in my head he would actually throw it.

That was the perfect moment to use a different wrinkle to our wildcat set. All anybody has seen is Green keeping it this year. Wisconsin sold out to stop it. If they had told Green to throw it, they would have caught the Badgers flat footed. Those are the games and situations where you show them something different.

Even a WR screen or RB swing pass....it didn't have to be a difficult pass....Green can throw.

It was so commonly known he wouldn't pass (let alone you know he isn't giving it up) that all he had to do was put in the air.....ANYWHERE......and it would have been a walk in TD.

The Gophers do have some DLine beef coming in...if I remember right they have the big Perham kid Richter and a transfer plus their redshirts. I really like the 4 games that redshirts can play....hopefully Fleck can mix some redshirts in during the bowl game.

I haven't been that let down over a single call since Green took a knee. And that's not hyperbole. I was so sure those 'sly summabitches' were going to one over Wisconsin.

Good
Thought it was just me
The air went out of my balloon at that point
Had a game of my own to go to, but even … it just felt like DAMNNNNNN
What coulda been
I sometimes wish PJ's demonstrative demeanor carried over to his actual game plan
It seems reality doesn't match his actual plan
I'd actually love to have a loose cannon approach. But he's pretty damn conservative.

There are rumors that 2 Big Ten WRs are in the Transfer portal....one for sure is from Penn State....the other?

Ron Johnson
@3RonJohnson
Soooooo @jdspielman10 nice season & career young man. It ain’t over yet. Never forget that you could come home. Play 1 more year w/ the #Gophers & jump in where Tyler Johnson left off. You, Rashod Bateman & Chris Autman-Bell could do some damage. Not to mention the RPO fits you.

Speaking of that … having a real QB has been the best part of the season, imo.
The Leidner Era had me convinced that Gopher FB had to be a miserable experience.

Oh, that would be excellent. Then I could stop hoping the scoreboard falls on him.

I did a quick search

Soielman has not
But the kid Frost recruited to replace him has reportedly entered the transfer portal

Johnson is lobbying Spielman to come back to Minnesota

Nebraska sports already in some columns almost begging Spielman to come back again

Seriously, why would anyone thumb their nose at the home town school to go to a cultural backwash like Nebraska? Daniel could have sat down with him and set him straight.

and why wouldn't you try to be a part of a great turnaround story, instead of "just another guy" at a place like that?
Makes me wonder how willing some are to accept pressure and responsibility
Easier to become a part in a bin rather than put yourself out there …. I guess. Makes you want to steer away from those types.
I'd sure take him tho at this point. Crawling back or not. Lets become a juggernaut in the passing game, no one in the B10 seems to be able to handle that type of game

That's the other thing. It's not like the Cornhuskers have been relevant in recent years.

Looks like the "experts" have it dialed in as either the Outback or Cirtus bowls on New Year's Day.
