Thanks to a very "clean" last few minutes, we only tied the Big 10 record for penalties in a game....

Niiiice ....
Settin' (or at least tie-ing ...) records!
I'm still shocked we held on to that win.
That was a classic... "game we usually find a way to lose."

This is one of the weirdest games I've seen.

I'm not sure they got either of the last 2 plays right.

They didn't. Not making a very good case for even having instant replay in college football.

Seeing the TD replay again, the ball was out before he hit the ground, then once he was on the ground it bounced up off his arm to Bennett.

I think that one was the right call.

I agree now too.

But I do not agree with the call on the play before that. They had it right on the field. It was a fumble. MSU ball. I don't have any idea what the ref saw on the replay to reverse the call. Very next play, TD Gophers. A huge turn of events because of officiating. Surprise, surprise.

Still a good win for this team. I'll definitely take it. I apologize to Weber for one night.

Hellacious numbers for Weber.
Saw his article this week, about staying positive and working thru things.
Turned me around on him, because Gray was quoted as saying Weber has been like a brother to him.
Helps him every day and knows that some day a change is coming. Good kid.
And good for him tonight. Those are numbers he can brag about forever. A lot of kids never get to this level.
He deserves a feel-good night.

Kudos to the Decker replacements ... got it done tonight, some big plays, and some others they left out there.
There had been a definite talent increase in our back-ups.
That has been Brewsters best work so far.

McKnight played great - especially for a guy that had no catches coming into today, and Bennett provided crazy highlights with both of his grabs.

Stoudermire was brutal. He looked every bit the part of "converted CB".

Chuckled on the TW reference earlier about Stoudemire .... wouldn't wish that on anyone.
(well, except for the #7 money he got)

That was the dumbest running play you could call in that situation.

MS bails us out with a stupid penalty.

You have to be refering to the 3 & 1 late in the game with what looked like a swinging gate formation to the left. Who in the heck drew that stupid play up.

I have another problem with Brewster. Why mjust give up at the end of the first half. It would be one thing if you were receiving the KO, but when you are not and half a minute, try and at least get into FG position. Once again he doesn't manage the clock well

If they want to play Gray, be more creative. Seeing 2 yads and a cloud of dust does nothing for me except tell me there is no confidence in him. Swapping them back and forth, I'm surprised there aren't more illegal procedures.

And the penalties, that is on the coaching staff

That's the one. You have a defense spread across the line of scrimmage focusing  solely on getting up the field to stuff the run. The last thing you call is a slow developing pitch sweep that allows the defense plenty of time to do just that.

I thought the same thing. They talk about Gray being a play maker and don't call any plays that give him a chance to make plays.

You're on a roll Jim. It is on the coaching staff. Unfortunately the first words I heard Brewster utter when he was leaving the field was about the poor quality of Big Ten officiating.

I didn't hear his words - but what I heard was that someone asked him about the officiating and he said that he wasn't going to comment on it.

Did he say more at a later time? Or did the report I heard mischaracterize what he said? Maybe it was a tone of voice that didn't translate.

That's what I am talking about Lynn. He was not asked to comment on the officiating; he was asked about all the penalties his team committed. Brewster's response was  "it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment on the quality of Big Ten officiating". Translation; it wasn't us, it was the refs.

Okay - then I misunderstood the way the question was posed.

What a cop out. Take it like a man Tim and say that is something YOU need to work on with your team

Whoops:

Gophers freshman defensive back Michael Carter was arrested and jailed early Monday morning after being charged with obstructing the legal process and consumption by a minor. Carter was released on bail at 4 a.m., approximately four hours after being arrested, and has a Nov. 16 court hearing.

And we seem to forget that these are still kids and kids make dumb moves, that doesn't make them bad people. This can be a taching moment. Suspend him for 2 games and move on

Yep. In the big scheme of things - his transgression wasn't that bad. I agree that hopefully he learns from it.

Or you could use the Urban Meyer discipline method and suspend him for a half or a series!

What's that old saying?  "Good decisions come from experience and experience comes from bad decisions."  Something like that.  Anyway, I hope Brew comes down on the harder side.  This team does appear to be lacking in discipline.  Set a strong example.

It does just figure that the freshman who's about to crack the starting lineup (or did already?) is the one who's a bonehead.

Another Gopher commit.....Christyn Lewis from Citrus Junior College.  A 6'0" Sophomore CB who has blocked several kicks in his career.  Maybe Brad has some info on this guy?

Here is the Carter story

http://www.startribune.com/sports/gophers/68903427.html?elr=KArksi8cyaiUo8cyaiUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aULPQL7PQLanchO7DiUr

And then there is this

quote:

Brewster said cutting down on penalties will be a point of emphasis this week. The Gophers were flagged for 17 penalties last week.

You think?
