Zimmer's offense was avant-garde compared to what Fleck has trotted out the last 2 years. My concern is that Kaliakmanis is going to ponder the idea of handing the ball off 50 times a game with the occasional slant pass mixed in for the next 3 years. Then he is going to decide that entering the portal is his best option.

Mo is a top back and it works on lesser teams but in order to be a top program and when the Gophers were at their best they had 2 Pro Prospects at WR and a Pro Prospect at TE.

He has a pro prospect at TE right now.....to help Athan out he needs to get another WR or two with Autmann Bell.

I can't remember which game it was (Illinois or Purdue) but Stephens Brown dropping a pass right into the bread basket and it turning into an INT was the turning point of the season.

Drops aside, you have to throw the football at this level.

That is the one thing about Fleck that surpised me. Coming in he had a top WR and QB. I haven't seen the passing offense except when we had Bateman and Johnson.

He has developed Olineman, LB, and DB more than QB and WR.

PJ and his band of 30 year olds are hanging tight with coaching legend Jim Leonhard down in shitville. May keep the Axe. Fun PJ fact. We were out of challenges, for the game, 5 seconds in to the second…………quarter.

I hate Harbaugh and Michigan but they figured this out. I hate THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY even more.

Shitty season in a shitty half of the conference. Getting to keep the axe is barely doing the minimum IMHO. This was a year to win the West if you were ever going to.

That said, Athan looks like he could be a player. Cupboard doesn't appear to be empty although we'll be losing Mo and several other experienced vets. We need a season where we don't lose significant talent like we have been.

Win the bowl game and go at it again next year. Row the Boat!

Athan definitely looks like a player. Hopefully today convinces Fleck that good things can happen when you can throw the ball.

Jackson, Wright, and Brockinton were open a ton. Brevynn-Ford also.

Maybe Athan wasn’t ready for a more pass offense but the difference in arm strength alone is huge.

Our recruiting options are getting better. Wide receivers and tight ends will favor Minnesota's young, developing quarterback, who already looks pretty damn good, and that bodes well for a good college career for someone who catches balls.

After the first return of the axe, I ran into PJ Fleck at an event on the U of M campus. I thanked him for finally bringing the axe home, but now he's done it three times! I'll keep a look-out for him so I can thank him again.

That's the most disappointing part of the Fleck era. I hate losing to Iowa. Kirk Ferentz is a dick.

The Athan effect. Markus Allen, a red shirt sophomore WR is transferring to the Gophers FROM WISCONSIN He was a 4 star recruit out of Ohio. I guess he looked at their QB of the future next ours and decided to jump. Because Wisconsin changed coaches mid-season he was able to enter the portal early.

Imagine if PJ had played Athan some last year (they can play 3 their Freshman year) and some earlier this year...huh. He looks fully capable after a few games of experience to hit on passes Morgan couldn't.

My little brother think PJs is that loyal....I am used to coaches playing Freshman and Sophmores that are almost as good.

My hope, when I saw how Wisconsin's fate seemed to be on a downhill trajectory, was that their recruiting would suffer big time.

And my other hope, as our fate seems to be trending uphill, was that our recruiting would see a sunshiney outlook.

That transfer may be the first hint of both of those.

They grabbed the coach from Cincy...if he has access to Ohio HS football recruits you may not get that wish.

I don't think having coached Cincinnati will necessarily give him an Ohio pipeline to Wisconsin.

The rivalry is better when both teams are good.

Rivalry, schmivalry. I just want them to be in the basement of the standings for about a decade while we rule. And I feel the same about all Wisconsin/Minnesota sports.

Agreed. I hate UW athletics more than I hate the Packers.

Before last week Kaliakmanis showed potential to be better than Morgan. But this was the first game where he unequivocally passed Morgan in the present tense. He IS a better QB than Morgan.

Nothing against Morgan, he is what he is and he made the most of his opportunity, seizing the job, seemingly ages ago from more highly regarded competition. But he peaked out a while ago, Fleck did the right thing by moving on, though I was somewhat surprised he did. Morgan has been a real trooper. But PJ is all about evolving and getting better.

I expect Morgan will quickly go into coaching once his fantasy of continuing to play football dies, which will happen immediately or very soon. And I bet he’ll be a good coach.
