How great that they FINALLY get to take home one of those trophies. They have every right to go hog wild and celebrate. Let's hope this upbeat finish helps the start for next season and convince some of those recruits that this program is turning around.

Nice win Gophers.

I'm freezing -- but what a great win! I feel great for the seniors especially. Weber, for all his shortcomings, deserves to go out with a big win like this.

Go Gophs. Interesting that they could actually play with some teams. Just took some difference at the top.

Congrats on the attitudes. Could have been so easy to quit and play the string out.

Congrats boys.
You deserved the last couple weeks.
I'm betting football got fun again for a lot of these guys.
Helluva story actually .... a month ago, Iowa probably had to be favored by 40 on the pathetic team we had.
Once the goofball in charge got jettisoned, good things started to happen.
Might not want to be so quick on the whole "get rid of this guy, too" in Horton.
Kids played damn hard for him.

The Gophers brought a go-for-broke approach to the game, trying to give their outgoing seniors a chance to touch one of those famous trophies that have persistently eluded this program over the past decade.

Finally!
Someone "gets it" about college football (be it too late)
Especially Gopher football.
WE will never be "defending" anything. We should always be gambling, going-for-it, taking risks.
If you aren't undefeated in CFB, you aren't risking/protecting anything. Make it fun. Let the players play.
We keep loading up on these over-coaching middle-aged know-it-alls who want to be "geniuses".
You bring in kids who want to impress, let them. Use them. Display their talents. Most of all, make it fun for the students who deseperately want to follow their team.

Hoke had a 6 year losing record at Ball State. He finally broke through in his 6th year and won the MAC. Now he has a 7th and a 5th place finish in the Mountain West. As I said before; color me unimpressed. Troy Calhoun and Kevin Sumlin are both 1000X better candidates than Brady Hoke.

Is Calhoun the coach of AF? If so, I don't think that offense will work in the Big 10

I doubt he would try to run that offense in the Big Ten. He is running the best scheme he can given his personnel at AF.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Miami fired coach Randy Shannon on Saturday, hours after the Hurricanes finished a 7-5 regular season
Shannon received a four-year extension just before the start of the 2010 season. He was 28-22 in four seasons at Miami.

I know this name has come up a time or two.
He's free game now.

The more I see Horton, the more I like the guy.
Just simply, one solid dude. Genuine. I hope he gets a good job, somewhere. He deserves one.
Those kids, carrying that glorious pig off in the cold, was a terrific sight. Feel so good for them.

Man, you have a lot of fun when you come "home".
You saw some good games this week, my friend!

And how many of us are surprised that Grandpa Sports is trumpeting for Horton to be named the head coach?

Now that I think of it ... maybe Miami has Trestman in their sights?

I think after being passed over for Brewster, Trestman basically told Maturi to go f*** himself.

This could get ugly...

I don't how reliable any of that is. According to the Gopher hole, Maturi hasn't even asked permission to talk to Calhoun.

Doesn't need to. All it has to be is a rumor for him to say he isn't interested. He has a good gig where he is

Air Force vs a Big Ten gig? That would be a huge step up for Calhoun in opportunity and money. Like I said, the only person that has been confirmed as a candidate is Hoke. If he has indeed withdrawn as a candidate I extend him my heart felt thanks. Phil Fulmer said he wasn't interested, but it isn't even clear that the Gophers were interested in him. The candidate lists and their interest level is all speculation. Who heard the name Tim Brewster before he was introduced as the head coach?

No way does Dan Mullen take the job. He's as good of a coach as there is in the whole country, and it's a step down from where he has the program at Mississippi State now.

Also, no way Gus Malzahn takes the Vandy job. Many people think that he makes Auburn go. Some even thinking they'd let Chizek go before they let Malzahn go.

Bowden's an interesting one.

I know I'd take a job at Minnesota before a job at Vandy any day. Vandy might be the toughest situation in the country to win at IMO. Minnesota at least has a great facility and a good, not great, conference, right now. Plus a ton of history.

I missed the start of it, so I don't know who he was, but a caller on KFAN was just talking about how little money the U of M truly commits to the football program. His example was the chintzy card table set up for player meals, that consist mostly of stacks of delivered pizza. In contrast, according to this guy, when you go to other universities they have really nice dining facilities - with chairs even! - and solid meals for the players.

It sounds like we need more than a coaching change - we need a philosophy change. We DO have a very nice stadium, though, so that is a step in the right direction. I don't know how recent this guy's observation was.

This is newest from that site

Minnesota: We have yet to confirm with a source close to the situation, but we are hearing that Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora is visiting the Minnesota campus today. We should have another update on this information a little bit later on.
