Broncos need to start winning some regular season games before they talk about the playoffs.

Roy Williams is a Cowboy now (the other one):

LIONS TRADE ROY WILLIAMS TO COWBOYS Posted by Michael David Smith on October 14, 2008, 4:03 p.m. EDT The Detroit Lions have traded wide receiver Roy Williams to the Dallas Cowboys.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that the trade was made today, just before the NFL trade deadline.
It is not clear exactly what compensation the Lions got from the Cowboys, but Schefter reported that Detroit received “at least one first-round pick.”
Williams, who played his high school football for the Permian Panthers and his college football for the Texas Longhorns, will return to his home state. He becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

Dang I know he was a #1, but that is high for someone that hadn't made that much of a splash in the NFL yet

You mean "hands of stone" Patrick Crayton?  Dallas's 2 and 3 receivers were awful IMO.

Yup, Zorn and his team looked like they were unprepared and still learning the first game of the season. They also look to have imporved and made adjustments in their first few games. Something we're still waiting for Chilly to do after his first few years.

Won't happen, he should go.

My feelings exactly E.

I love Zorn, but I really thought he would struggle get together with Campbell and have growing pains early. Like you say first game looked to be the case, then the get 10 days off and learned it seems like a season's worth. Giants are actually lucky they aren't playing the Skins this week as I think Washington would roll them.

I read an article on ESPN about Zorn, and his use of the West Coast offense.  One of the things they talked about was that Campbell was learning that it is OK to take the 8 yard pass.  It sounded disturbingly familiar to our KAO until they talked about Zorn's "go for it" attitude.  Being willing to take some chances is what makes that work, rather than playing to keep it close.

The 8 yard pass is great on 3rd and 6.

How many times last week on 3rd and manageable did we throw the ball 40 yards downfield? 3 times?

Exactly.  Both those teams are easily better than any team in our division.

And what's sad is those are both very average teams right now.

Denver can't stop anyone and their offense is getting turnover prone.

San Diego has Norv and Cottrell.

Wow!

COWBOYS GETTING FINED FOR PACMAN SUSPENSION Posted by Mike Florio on October 17, 2008, 3:17 p.m. EDT That sound you hear off in the distance is Jerry Jones’ head exploding.
Per Adam Schefter of NFLN, the Cowboys will be fined up to $200,000 for the suspension of Pacman Jones.
Specifically, the Cowboys will pay Pacman’s salary — $20,588 per game — to the league for each game of his suspension.  The penalty applies even if the Cowboys release Jones.
Jones’ base salary for 2008 is $700,000.  This translates to a rate of $41,176 per game, which means that the fine represents 50 percent of the pay Jones would have received but for the suspension.
The fine is the result of a previously unknown (at least by us) rule that became effective on August 1.  For the first player suspended on a given team during a given league year, no fine applies.  For the second player suspended, a portion of the player’s salary is paid as a fine.
The amount of the fine is capped at $200,000 to $500,000 per suspension.
The new fine procedure applies to suspensions under the Personal Conduct Policy, the substance-abuse policy, and the policy regarding anabolic steroids and related substances.
Because Cowboys receiver Mike Jefferson was suspended four games for violating the steroids policy, Jones’ suspension triggers the new policy.
It’s unclear whether this rule supersedes the provision effective as of June 1, which makes teams subject to fines for suspensions arising under the Personal Conduct Policy, presumably without regard to whether it was a team’s first or second suspended player of a given league year.

Wow. Goodell has flaws in his application of stuff, but maybe he's still learning as he goes.

This is pretty serious stuff, maybe he realized trying to plug little holes in the dam wasn't working and was too subjective.

This is a huge shot across the bow for the 'Boys. I really thought he was going to kiss Jerry's butt until the the agreement was in place.

And really, I don't have a problem with the basic policy.  It's deterring teams from scarring communities, like the Bengals and Blazers in the past.  If teams take the ownership in building community-oriented or at least personally responsible players, then that will benefit all, IMO.

For instance, the Titans have a policy that supposedly costs over $1 M or so per season that if any player/member of their staff needs a DD or something similar, they will handle it.  Now, it hasn't completely worked because some players of theirs have still been stupid enough to not use it, but programs like that are what teams should be striving towards, I think.  $1 M is nothing to a team to avoid the PR hit or other costs associated, and more importantly, avoid the unnecessary harm to others in the community.

I still like Cowherd's idea of essentially 3 arrests (not convictions) and you're gone for good from the league.  Because ya, it's possible you get wrongly accused once, maybe even twice, but 3 times?  Sorry, that's just not happening.  Grow up.

Same with Dungy. Cut his best DL right before we played them. You gotta stand for something or you'll fall for anything.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—Cornerback Charles Woodson says that if a media report indicating that Brett Favre shared inside knowledge of the Green Bay Packers’ offense with Detroit Lions coaches is true, it’s nothing short of sabotage.
Has one of the most beloved players in Packers history become Benedict Brett?
“He contacted them? I don’t respect that,” Woodson said after the Packers’ victory over Indianapolis on Sunday. “If they call him and he gives them information, that’s one thing. But to seek a team out and to feel like you’re trying to sabotage this team, I don’t respect that. I know he’s been the greatest player around here for a long time, but there’s no honor in that.”
Woodson’s sharp comments came in the wake of a foxsports.com report Sunday that Favre called the Lions before their Sept. 14 game against the Packers in Detroit and spent more than an hour giving coaches information on nuances of the offense he used to run.
Favre—who was traded to the New York Jets after a prolonged, ugly split with the Packers’ front office this summer—was not asked about the report after the Jets’ loss at Oakland on Sunday.
But in a text message to an NBC reporter before the Seahawks-Buccaneers primetime game, Favre strongly denied the report.
“I would say it’s disappointing,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said.
McCarthy added that he was aware of the report but “not really in tune” with its details and did not want to comment further.
An NFL spokesman did not immediately respond to a message sent by The Associated Press, but Favre’s alleged contact with the Lions is not believed to violate any league rules.
Woodson, however, seems to consider it unethical.
“I’ve never called a coach on another team and told them what’s going to happen,” Woodson said. “It is what it is. Obviously he says he wasn’t bitter about what happened, but obviously there is a little bit of resentment there.”
Packers wide receiver Ruvell Martin shared Woodson’s concern.
“If it’s true, then you’ve got to question motives,” Martin said. “I don’t know what to say.”
But Martin downplayed the actual damage leaked inside information could do to a team.
“In my opinion, there’s not too much you can gain,” Martin said. “You can give them our hand signals (but) those are on tape already. If we find out you’ve got our hand signals, we try to find a way (around it).”
Packers center Scott Wells said it would be “disappointing” if Favre shared information with the Lions, but noted that the Packers beat the Lions.
“Obviously it didn’t work out too well for them,” Wells said. “We were still able to go out and move the ball on them and win the game.”
Other Packers players wouldn’t touch the subject.
“I’d rather not know what it is and not comment on it,” said wide receiver Donald Driver, a close friend of Favre’s.

Players React to Favre's Call to Lions

Mon Oct 20, 2008

The Milwaukee Joural Sentinel reports a few wide-eyed expressions were definitely seen. And a few sharp words were heard when Packers players were told that former QB Brett Favre, who was traded to the New York Jets, reportedly went out of his way to help the Detroit Lions prepare their defense for the Packers' offense leading up to their Week 2 game in Detroit. "He contacted them?" CB Charles Woodson said with raised eyebrows. "I don't respect that. If they called him and he gives them information, that's one thing. But to seek a team out, because, you know, I guess you're trying to sabotage this team, you know I don't respect that. I know he's been the greatest player around here for a long time but there's no honor in that." According to a story reported on Fox's pregame show and later at Foxsports.com, Favre was put in contact with Lions defensive coaches by former Detroit general manager and CEO Matt Millen, who is friends with Favre. Then for the next 60 to 90 minutes, Favre gave a "dissertation, every single thing that the Green Bay Packers do on offense." The Lions did not confirm or deny the report after their loss to the Houston Texans. HC Rod Marinelli said he was aware of the report and said "no comment," when asked about it. DC Joe Barry also did not deny the report. The report said there were rumors that Favre had given other teams information about the Packers' offense, as well. OT Chad Clifton, who blocked Favre's blind side for eight years, said, "I don't put much stock into (the report). I seriously doubt that happened." According to two Packers sources, the team had heard "whispers" about Favre giving out inside information to other teams but didn't know the extent. The team is fairly irritated about the report but was not surprised because of Favre's continued resentment toward GM Ted Thompson. What caught them off guard was that Favre apparently sought out the Lions and possibly other teams. "I would say it's disappointing," HC Mike McCarthy said of the report. "I really have no comment on that stuff." Thompson also had no comment.

Maybe it's my complete disdain for the Packers but I see this as a set-up by them to plant the seeds of negativity towards Favre.  Where did this "report" originate?  Just my opinion but I think that the Pack started this to protect their image should Rodgers have a worse year than Favre.

I don't doubt it at all.  Favre the bastard at his best.

On another note, Jay Cutler is too good for his own good I think.  He thinks he can make every throw, and he can.  But the problem is that he needs to learn that it doesn't matter if he CAN make every throw; that doesn't mean he SHOULD make every throw.

I think that's just as likely.

Honestly, the way the Pack screwed Favre still amazes me. For that matter, their back and forth really was bizarre. I don't think we'll ever see something like that ever again.

I will always remember the Packers as the team that kicked Favre to the curb.
