Lane Kiffin just got his say on Espn ....
Find it hard to believe he is the bad guy here.
Seemed extremely classy and devastated.
Seems like a good young talent stuck in an ugly, ugly situtaion.
I feel bad for the guy and will have to see a ton of evidence before I believe he is the problem.

There's a picture of Al Davis in the dictionary under "senile".  The fact that he's coming out so harshly with all of his accusations against Kiffin just shows what an old, bitter jackass he really is.

REFLECTIONS AT THE 1/4 POLE

NFC EAST

Giants - Some may be surprised that they are 3-0 but not me.  They played a Washington team that was not ready and two patsies that they let hang around for a while.  The loss of Osi hurts them a lot.

Wash - A team that is coming on.  The win over Dallas was huge.  It shows they have arrived.  I don't think that in the long run they will be able to overcome the loss of Taylor but Jason Campbell is starting to come on and this is a QB league!

Cowboys - I see a team that is very flawed and lacking in heart.  I never bought into the 13 Pro Bowlers line.  McNabb put up 30 on them with Hank Baskett and a rookie starting at WR.  They may win the division or they may get a wild card.  I don't see them in the Super Bowl.

Eagles - another talented, but flawed team.  They don't have enough offensive weapons to win the big games but will be in them thanks to McNabb and Westbrook.  If Westbrook is out for a long time they will miss the playoffs again.  If he can get healthy they can challenge for a wild card.

NFC NORTH

Packers - they are coming back down to earth in a hurry.  The formula to beat them is out: ignore the running game and beat up the QB.  Their choice for backup QB was about as smart as Palin for McCain.  I can't see more than 8 or 9 wins but in this sorry division that might get it done.

Bears - they have a lot of heart but limited talent.  Tommie Harris and Mike Brown take turns on who misses games.  If they ever suit up their entire defense healthy they are good.  Orton is a much tougher QB than Grossman.  If they get all their defense healthy they could challenge for the division.

Vikings - No real improvement in the passing game or scoring points leaves this team close to where it was last year.  Actually it is a little worse because Peterson is not sneaking up on people and Bard's coaching has gotten even worse.  This team needs another 3 defensive TD day or it will sink out of contention.

Lions - Raiders of the East.  Johnson on pace for 1400 yards and 11 TDs but they have no shot at the playoffs.

SOUTH

Panthers - if Jake can stay healthy they probably take the division because they are the only one of the top 3 teams with a QB and a defense.  Peppers looks to be pretty average off the jiuce but the defense is still decent.

Bucs - a surprisingly strong start even while changing QBs.  I am not the biggest Chucky fan but he can coach circles around Bard.  Warrick Dunn is ancient as is their QB.  Their RBs and WRs are boring, but they win.

Saints - this was supposed to be the year the defense matched the offense.  Giving up 25 PPG won't cut it to make the playoffs.

Flakons - Another positive surprise.  But don't get too into their 2-2 record.  The wins were over KC and Detoilet and when they stepped up and played two real teams the result was the same: 9-24 losses.

WEST

Cardinals - with a potential long-term loss to Boldin, a 2 game losing streak, and a defense that let Favre throw 6 TD passes, I doubt this is the year they rise up out of the dirt.  I look for them to fold with another 5 win season unless Boldin recovers.

49ers - gutsy win over Seattle but with the Pats, Giants, and Eagles up next I see them heading south.  Not believing in JT either.

Seahags - with their players slowly recovering I look for them to close strong and take the division.  This is a pathetic division.

Rams - the NFL's version of the traveling BYE week; who said NFL-E was dead!

I would love that move also.   I think that Kiffin has a decent football IQ and thus a future in the NFL.  For Kiffin's sake, I wouldn't want Childress to brainwash him and set him back in his progress though.

AFC

EAST

Bills - they are a nice surprise story but...they did struggle against the Rams and Raiders.  I don't believe in them yet but they should be able to squeeze out 9 or 10 wins and take this sorry division.

Jets - A very flawed team.  I am not fooled by 6 TDs on the Cardinals.  They had the Pats with no Brady and got their butts handed to them.  Perhaps they challenge Buffalo for the division otherwise I don't see a wild card when the South has so many good teams.

Patriots - no Brady, no playoffs.  The team was showing cracks towards the end of last year and I officially declare the 2001-2004 run OVER!  I feel bad for Moss.

Fish - Yeah, they had the big win over the Pats but this is another team I am not buying yet.  No playoffs but a much more competitive team than last year.

NORTH

Steelers - A lot depends on the health of the line and Big Ben.  If healthy, they can challenge for the Super Bowl.  If not, a quick playoff exit is coming.  Big Ben is going to have to learn how to release the ball sooner.

Ravens - They are improved and I like Flacco but I think they are a year away still.

Browns - Close observers noted that Anderson was a fraud and fading.  New coach, new QB

Bengals - an even worse team with another struggling QB

SOUTH

Titans - an early conference favorite.  They play great defense and smart offense.  I have to admit that Young was simply not ready to be a PASSER in this league.  Sure his WRs are milktoast but Collins is making it work.

Colts - as they get healthy I expect them to start winning more.  I think Peyton has one last push in him and we will see it the second half of this year.

Jaguars
- I think their failure to properly address WR will mean a step back for them this year.  They are still a tough team but not enough horses to get to the SB.

Texans - improved somewhat but their tough division means it may not show in the record.

WEST

Chargers - I think when all is said and done the flawed Chargers will take the division.  However, without Merriman they don't have enough to win the AFC.

Broncos - mile high offense with mariana trench defense.  Exciting team that may miss the playoffs.

Raiders - young team that played hard until the skeleton struck down the young coach.

Chiefs - Herm has no talent, was doing a poor job coaching, but put it all together to beat their rival.

One more team that's painful to watch is Baltimore considering Childress decided to stick with Bevel instead of going after Cam Cameron. The way Cam is tutoring Flacco is just impressive.  Who knows what Jackson could do with that kind of coaching.  On the other hand, I would have faith in Cam to know whether or not Jackson could develop and if not, he could focus his teaching towards Booty to make him into a starting QB someday.  Either way, we'd be so much better off with a real offensive mind like Cam on this team!         Well, you screwed us again, Childress!!

The more of Al Davis' press conference I see, the more I want to root against the Raiders.  He is such a classless piece of garbage that I hope they don't even sniff a .500 record as long as he's around.  The Raiders coaching situation is similar to the Vikes QB situation. Enough bodies have been run through each position to know there's a bigger issue that needs to be addressed.  Al needs to go as much as Childress needs to go in order for each team to turn things around.

Cam could be our next HC.  With a strong GM handling that section, Cam may do much better his second time around a la Shanahan.

Tony Mandarich Admits to Steroid Use
Tue Sep 30, 2008

AP reports former NFL OL Tony Mandarich said he used steroids at Michigan State and faked a drug test before the 1988 Rose Bowl. He also said during an interview on "Inside the NFL" that will air Wednesday on Showtime that he did not use steroids in the NFL but was addicted to alcohol and painkillers. Mandarich, whose autobiography will be released in March, said he provided a fake urine sample to evade detection before the '88 Rose Bowl in which Michigan State beat Southern California 20-17. Mandarich said he couldn't confirm a report that other players did the same. The offensive lineman was the No. 2 overall pick in 1989 by the Packers. He lasted just three years with Green Bay amid rumors of steroid use. "I got to the point where it was a struggle to work out three or four times a week because the priority of getting high was above the priority of working out," Mandarich said in the interview.

Big shock.....

ESPN just played a clip from the Raiders' press conference when Al was talking to someone on the side but didn't realize his mic was on.  He was asking someone who was going to introduce Cable, the new coach.  Al responded that he couldn't because he doesn't really know anything about Cable.  This guy is beyond ridiculous.

What coach in their right mind, would want anything to do with the Raiders organization at all.

I think hiring Brad H would be an excellent hire as head coach.  He and Al both still think defense starts at the corners, they'd be like peas in a pod!  Either no it's a philosophy that worked in the 70's, they both still believe it today.

How great is it that Aaron Rodgers made it 4 games before getting hurt and being questionable?

If the Vikings are going to suck, at least don't make me see the Packers do well. I love that he's snapping already.
