At age 40, Brad Johnson has had a very nice NFL career that includes a Super Bowl ring. But to have any chance of winning against the Giants on Sunday, the Cowboys need to return Johnson to the sideline.

Johnson On Sunday, Dallas kept its season alive despite the fact that Johnson threw for 122 yards -- on 33 attempts. I'm still checking to see if a quarterback has ever thrown for fewer yards on that many attempts. Acting on a hunch, I discovered that former Bears quarterbackShane Matthews once went 24-of-39 for 139 yards, but more on that at a later date.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the Cowboys may be exploring other quarterbacking options as we speak. A team source told Werder that Johnson "probably" would remain the starter against the Giants, but the team is concerned about Johnson's obsession with the horizontal passing game.
In case you haven't noticed, T.O., Patrick Crayton, Miles Austin and Roy Williams haven't made much of an impact over the past two games. Yes, I know Williams caught a touchdown pass, but he has two catches for 10 yards now. As Ed points out, none of the Cowboys' downfield "threats" have a catch of 20 yards or more since Johnson took over.

I'm not trying to cause any problems here ... seriously ...
But, have you ever seen a supposed "great" player drop off the map as quickly as Daunte?
Will we ever know the real story?
You have the injury, the attitude, the racism claims, the everything ....
I'm serious, it'd be nice to really know what the problem is.
I watched him in college, up close, against Nebraska, who was a power at that time, and he was a man against boys even then. I thought he'd revolutionize the game.
And now, he can't get jobs that Quinn Gray can.
Even throw out the contract demands, hell we all know pro teams who want to win will pay any price if he gives them a legit shot at winning.
It's freakish. And I don't really hear ex-teammates howling for his return, either. It's not like Randy Moss has gone to Pat management and demanded they look at him. Did he stop working at his game? Why would he?
I'm not picking a side, I'm just flat-out puzzled.

I'm not picking a side, I'm just flat-out puzzled.

I'm not sure which thread I said it in, but I believe he had "too much success, too soon". He was an athletically gifted freak surrounded by immense offensive talent in a great system. NFCG, Pro Bowl, etc as a "first time starter".

And I think all of those combined to mask his shortcomings as a player and he never worked on those aspects (all the infamous quotes about him not being a studier, etc.). He didn't see the field well, he didn't have much of an in-between game, he'd wait for guys to get open instead of anticipating, and so on.

Then when injury, weight and age started to limit his natural abilities, he couldn't fall back on the fundamental aspects of his game that were lacking. So he'd still make some great plays (Oakland and Miami) on the occasional bomb or whatever, but he'd also get sacked too much, and fumble and he just wasn't "steady" enough.

Combine that with representing himself, some comments he's made, some comments made about him, and he comes off as a real headcase. A talented headcase, but probably not a guy that is going to take you to the promised land, so I think that while some GMs may see him as an upgrade, it's not enough of an upgrade to deal with the potential drama (ie: Jeff George-itis).

Yeap, to say he's the complete package is doing it justice. Unfortunately for him, he's a complete package of negative things that scare people away. Whether fair or not, there's a perception that he's not a good team guy. I made a bunch of complaints at the time and people said I was full of it. I said at the time of his injury where he didn't stay with the team that he was a terrible leader. People made all kinds of excuses for that. I even heard that it was dangerous for him to be on the sidelines because of what happened to Tice. We'll never know but my hunch remains.

The Titans are damn good. The Colts are not.

And Chris Johnson is IMO the fastest man in football right now.

I think Belichick listed Brady on it o the opposing team would have to spend time looking at what they could do to stop the backup QB

Bill B is a pissy, whiny beyatch. A good coach, but a vindictive, paranoid, whiny punk as well.

He's mad because he used the rule to keep Brady on the injury list constantly, so he could hide legitimate injuries. When asked about them, he'd either no comment or point to the list. And the NFL told him to knock it off and stop skirting the rules.

Indy hasn't hidden anything about Manning's injury, they haven't listed him because he's been 100% to start every game. And I guarantee you, Bill B didn't mention it becuase he needs to know. He's just trying to point out that he's picked on. He's still unhappy about it and still making noise.

They need to watch this guy like a hawk. His personality is such that the very second he sees another sliver of an opening to cheat, he will poince on it.

Anything that delays the inevitable of the NFL going to an exclusively pay per view model, I support. They shouldn't stop everything else, but I'm fine with them trying to stop major sports from going away from free TV.

There is a lot of rumblings that this round of guys are not going to get suspended. There is this:

Said he wonders if they have a marketing deal with them or something. He also said that when you call the supplement hotline that the NFL set up you (usually?) never get a call back. Didn't understand how they could put product out there labelled "all natural" when it contained a water reduction chemical.

That's good news. Bernard Berrian also said that in an interview in the last couple days.

We’ve gotten a tip from a member of the media that the Lions and quarterback Daunte Culpepper have agreed to terms on a two-year deal.

Word is that he’ll join the team on Monday, and that he’ll wear number 11 with the Lions.
Culpepper wore No. 11 for most of his time in Minnesota. After leaving the Vikings, he switched to No. 8, which he had worn in college at Central Florida.

We sent Culpepper an e-mail to confirm that he has agreed to terms with the Lions, but we’ve yet to hear back from him.

Seifert confirms it.

Culpepper agreed Saturday to a two-year deal with the Detroit Lions. Terms of the deal, scheduled to be signed on Monday, are unknown.
Culpepper canceled a scheduled trip to Kansas City to instead visit the Lions earlier in the week.
Culpepper left the Lions on Tuesday without a deal but kept in touch, trying to find a home for this season and next season. After several days of negotiations, Culpepper agreed that Detroit was the best fit for him.
In September, Culpepper announced his retirement after being offered only one-year deals. Culpepper felt ignored despite his belief in his skills, and when he couldn't find a long-term home he announced his retirement at the age of 31.
In agreeing to a deal with Culpepper, the Lions have a quarterback to help finish this season and take them into next season. Culpepper, a former Vikings starter, has great knowledge of the NFC North.
