Beware Green bay, the Lions are claiming their meeting Sunday as "their Super Bowl".
(like it would matter if it was?)
The Lions are 1-22 since the middle of last season and haven't won since Dec. 23, 2007, when they beat Kansas City.
And sometimes we think we have issues.

REPORT: FAVRE DOESN’T LIKE PLAYING FOR MANGINI

Apart from a nagging shoulder injury that has gotten worse over the past few weeks, a major factor that will influence whether quarterback Brett Favre will return to the Jets in 2009 is whether and to what extent he’s happy.
Per FOX’s Jay Glazer, Favre isn’t happy playing for coach Eric Mangini.
The problem? In Green Bay, Favre had his own set of rules. In New York, Favre is treated like everyone else.
He regularly is called to the “principal’s office” to answer questions about the basis for Favre’s in-game decisions. Also, Mangini has called Favre out in front of the team.
So if Favre plays next year, it apparently won’t be for the Jets.

FAREWELL TO FAVRE?

It’s Week Seventeen, so that means — as it has for each of the last five or six years — that we could be witnessing the final regular-season game of quarterback Brett Favre’s career.
Regardless of whether the Jets qualify for the playoffs (they need a win over Miami and help), Favre likely won’t be back in New York next season.
Unless he’s willing to cut dramatically his $13 million base salary for 2009.
Even if the Jets can finagle the cap space to fit Favre’s current salary under the annual spending limit, there’s a real question as to whether he’s worth that much money.
And so, if he won’t take a pay cut, the Jets might have to cut Favre before the start of the 2009 league year in order to have the cash available to pursue a free agent signal-caller.
We still don’t rule out a final Favre season, with another team. As a guy who is used to getting his way, we think that Favre could get sufficiently motivated to play in 2009 if he were to get his chance to play for the Vikings.
So if the Vikings don’t make it to the playoffs, we still think there’s a strong possibility that Favre will get his wish, one year after he made it known that he wants to play for a team that competes directly with the Packers.
Before any of you start filling up the comments with reminders of the provision that jacks up the price tag of the Favre trade if he ends up in Minnesota, that provision applies only if the Jets trade Favre to a team in the NFC North. If the Jets release Favre, he can sign with any team, at no consequence to the Jets.
As of right now, it wouldn’t shock us at all if the Jets and Favre part ways, and if he ultimately is wearing purple when the next football season starts.

LIONS PLAN TO PARTY, WIN OR LOSE?

With history certain to be made on Sunday, either if the Lions lose at Green Bay and fall to 0-16 or if the Packers stumble at Lambeau and spark riot conditions in Wisconsin, the Lions are viewing Sunday’s game as their own personal Super Bowl.
And Detroit cornerback Travis Fisher has made an unusual promise that hinges on the latter outcome.
“If we win, I ain’t catching the plane back home,” Fisher said, per the Associated Press. “I’ll walk back to Detroit.” (He reportedly was laughing. Which is far better than the alternative of crying.)
But if Fisher walks from Green Bay to Detroit, he’d miss out on the party that apparently has been scheduled, win or lose, by some members of the team.
A Facebook posting touts the event: “On Sunday, December 28th, all of the Detroit Lions will converge on Downtown Detroit’s very own, Esko Lounge to celebrate an end to their season. This will be an upscale event and will be hosted by starting safety, Dwight Smith, and Gosder Cherilus, a 2008 1st Round draft pick.”
The posting lists some of the players who’ll be present. “Confirmed Lions in attendance include: Calvin Johnson,Chris Roberson, Daunte Culpepper, Rudi Johnson, Ernie Sims, and Kevin Smith, just to name a few. In addition, players from other NFL teams, the Detroit Pistons, and Tigers have also been invited.”
The Facebook posting also includes an image of the official flyer, which touts the event as “The Grand Finale.”

Jerry Jones can lie until his face pins fall off, but there is NO WAY he doesn't fire at least a half-dozen people if the Cowboys fail to advance.
What a crock, "Phillips is safe".
No way. There will be a closet-cleaning from hell there if that team fails.
It's "what have you done for me TODAY" in this league right now.

Tony Romo came up way short in another crucial game, dropping his record to 5-8 in December. T.O. was a non-factor, despite six catches for 103 yards.

"They just handed us an old-fashioned butt whipping," Owens said. "I don't have all the answers, but I'd love to be part of the solution."

Team sources told ESPN's Ed Werder that there was commotion and concern in the Cowboys locker room after the game when Romo collapsed in the shower. Players called for medical staff, who brought in a stretcher, but Romo walked out on his own. Romo then did his news conference but had to be helped from the podium. Sources said Romo suffered a rib injury in the second half.

Terrell Owens is NOT the problem on that team.

The problem is overrated Romo. He is Choking Dog II

It is simply remarkable what Miami did.
They were 1-15 last year, pretty much Lion-esque.
In one short calendar year they go from the bottom to the top.
That's damn hard to do.
What a story.

Exactly why I don't buy into the 3 year plan crap.

Even with Brady out, the Patriots are still better than any team in this division and Miami beat them out for the division crown.

I saw the highlights and he was up to his old faking self. After his second INT he grabbed his arm like it was hurt. What a fraud.

BRADY

I wonder if he EVER recovers his career or if he is the next Daunte in terms of not coming back fully from injury:

Romo is a big part of the problem...but so is TO. They are both part of the problem. The solution is to dump TO, find a good backup to push Romo, fire Phillips and hire Garrett...and start over now.

That being said...I am very happy that "America's team" is once again not in the playoffs. Them and the Patriots out makes me very happy.

More importantly, Romo still has very bad mechanics and chokes in the clutch - two huge problems for a franchise QB.

Romo's early success hurt him because he started thinking he could make those sandlot plays on a regular basis and when you play against good defenses and you do that you turn the ball over.

Romo is by far the bigger problem for Dallas.

I am not disagreeing with you. Romo is a big part of the problem.

I am just saying that so is TO. TO putting more pressure on Romo to throw him the ball isn't helping Romo out at all.

What Romo really needs is no more TO, and a backup that is pushing him for the starting job. That will either make him try to be better or lose his job to a better QB.

Quite frankly...I hate the Cowboys almost as much as I hate the Patriots. So to me, if they want to keep Romo and TO and keep substandard backups like Brad Johnson around...and substandard coaches like Wade Phillips...that will be fine with me. Keep the team sucking Jerry!
