Status: offline 		True, but I think any real fan that knows the NFL knows that the Jets offense is getting way too much credit.  That, plus, I would actually put the Ravens as the early SB reps from the AFC.  They are going to be tough to beat unless Flacco has a really bad year.

The real contenders won that game.
The mouth-flappers looked awful.
I enjoyed the heck out of Hard Knocks this year, but the entire time, you are thinking ... "no way these guys are as good as they think they are" (the Jets)

Hey Barkley - have you noticed that those college athletes are getting a FREE education for no other reason than that they can put on pads and hit someone? THAT is the same as getting paid.

Try to convince students that are there for a degree and have to pay their own way, usually borrowing money to pay their tuition that athletes should be paid IN ADDITION to a free ride. Go sit down.

How many schools make sure their athletes graduate.

They are exploited, plain and simple. Good for them when they get some money back

Oh, and countless athletes are doing what Bush did.

No consistency

Not much worse than fake, sanctimonius frauds

The NCAA is a bastion of hypocrisy

For a marginal athlete, sure. For a Bush, Barkley, etc type athlete it is not great money.

More importantly, the school is not doing it out of the kindness of their hearts or for the benefit of the student. If it was, then they would get serious about graduating their athletes since very few every make it to the pros.

I was a Financial Director at Temple University. The amount of money the sports teams made was counted on in the budget. That was always a high priority in the budget discussions - and I sat in on every meeting as a director. No time was ever spent on how many were graduating. The only time that was ever even looked at was when the media made an issue out of it.

Our football team played Penn State every year. We NEVER had a shot to be within 4 TDs of Penn State. It was an annual slaughter. But we played them every year because it was $2M in guaranteed revenue!

That is criminal. You are setting up young men to get beat up so the school can make money. And I am supposed to cry over Reggie Bush' mom getting a nicer house out of the hood?

OH THE TRAVESTY

No way

Not me.

These kids deserve to get all they can. If they can get their mom a nicer house out of the deal then I am happy for them.

I just wish someone was there teaching them Financial Literacy and ensuring their graduation.

Reggie has a few credits left to finish his degree and some forces at USC want to stop that! Fpn hypocrites!

Extrapolate that into the business world. The people doing the day to day work that keeps a Fortune 500 company in business make a pittance compared to the CEO who makes a hundred million dollars. I'm not convinced that the "work" he does is worth that much more than the people who work under him.

You keep looking for "justice" to even out. That doesn't usually happen in the real world. Reggie Bush got a very small slap on the hand compared to what others suffered for his transgressions. Yes, other programs have cheated. Other players have cheated. Not everyone gets caught and not everyone gets punished. That doesn't change the FACT that Reggie Bush violated rules and got caught and had to pay.

You don't let one bank robber go just because others didn't get caught, do you? That would make an interesting defense.

Clay Matthews Jr., LB, Green Bay. A second consecutive three-sack game stamps Matthews as the premier defensive player in the league over the first two weeks. Status: online 		The gameplan should be to block and chip Matthews ALL DAY, and then run ALL DAY around him!

Matthews hits hard, and is not afraid to go below the knees on a hit. I'm not sure that Favre makes it through the season healthy facing Matthews and Peppers twice each.

Maybe Loadholt can be alert to Matthews, and gets help from TEs ? Or better, the OC figures out ways to run at Matthews and to frustrate him ?
