Just that it's not the same or worse.

Each half an hour someone is killed by a drunk driver. That's horrible, I know...but, how many of those drivers are someone's mom, sister, single father etc...?

It's a huge problem but it has a very human face to it. Yes, there are repeat offenders and some are going to be the dredge of society but it is not a black and white thing where killing someone driving impaired is worse than what Vick did JUST because they are human.

Basically - killing someone while impaired does not get you into the conversation of being a sociopath. It's a huge problem but again, if your mom, sister or kid came to you and told you it happened - you would't disown them b/c they just did something so inhuman...

How about if the person killed was your mom, sister or kid? Or all 3?

I would be far more harsh than you are I believe. There is zero excuse for it. Driving a car drunk is every bit as dangerous to me as shooting a gun into a crowd. You don't "know" if you're going to kill someone. But it's completely wreckless and dangerous. And should be treated much more harshly in our society.

As for the bolded part, that's exactly where I disagree. I love dogs; but a human life is far, far, far more valuable than the life of any animal. IMO.

Status: offline 		And no, I wouldn't disown them for it. But I would be livid, and outraged. I also wouldn't disown them for treating dogs so horribly, though I'd be disgusted by it.

Honestly, aside from the initial rage that wouldn't allow me to see straight I think it would be dependent on who the driver was. The remorse they displayed.

That's a tough one, David.

No one should be able to start a car while impaired. If someone circumvents the system and drives impaired they should have the book thrown at them.

As it is. People make mistakes. Mistakes that carry horrible consequences. Some people. Some people probably just don't care. IDK.

But at what point does it stop being a mistake?

While I'm sure a huge number of people have driven 'tipsy' or even full on drunk once or twice, there are people who do it habitually. Every time they do it, they put hundreds on people at risk. Just because they get lucky most of the time shouldn't lessen the impact of what they did.

Is a person who regularly drives drunk and regularly puts people (and families) in danger any less of a sociopath?

Look, obviously we can't make a sweeping generalization about the minds and motives of every DD. It's not back and white though, IMO.


I think I would look down on EVERY person who did what MV did. And that includes anyone in my family.

I don't equate what Vick did with hunting; I have many relatives that fish and hunt and I have zero problem with it if it's done with respect, as it is in most cases. What Vick did was far different.

But otherwise I agree.

2) Those that hunt for purely sport are an extremely, extremely small percentage of overall hunters.

In general, we agree on the Vick thing, JC, but I don't equate it with hunting, at all. I think what Lewis and Stallworth and Little did were all worse things, but what Vick did was still incredibly terrible.

What Stallworth did was reckless and incredibly damaging. What Vick did was sadistic AND premeditated.

But the difference for me is that one was to humans and one was to dogs. That tips the scale in the other direction, IMO.

But both are awful.

If anyone I knew, and that includes any of you, woke up in one morning after a night of drinking, and while thinking yourself significantly sobered up enough to drive, killed some idiot who darted in front of your car, I would not think any of you as sadistic premeditated murderous bastards.

I'd be like, what a shame and an awful mistake you made. I hope you can get through this.

In the four games he's missed, they have a 104.3 rating and are averaging a pick every 26.2 attempts. Samuel had two of his NFL-high seven picks in first meeting.
