Wow; Adams did choose Fisher over Young.

Wonder where he ends up.

This means that the Titans will be drafting a QB ahead of us in all likelihood (I could see Mallett being a Fisher-type guy). But it could also cross one off if a team decides to go with Young.

It was the only choice he could make - and i am a big Vince Young fan.

You can't walk out on your team. He should have been cut on the spot.

I still believe Young can be effective but, like Moss, needs a master psychologist coach to extract that from him.

For 90% of the teams he is not worth the headache. But there may be a team out there that is so bad at QB and has the right HC that they give it a try

Could even be us

That's the thing; head-wise, Young is such a huge gamble.

I root for Young; I want him to do well and turn his life around. But I just don't see it ending well, sadly. I wonder if McNair could have been a bigger help for him right now if he was still alive.

More good Fisher stuff, from Kuharsky:

While we await Phase 2 of Adams’ decision, here’s numerical context on Fisher that Keith Hawkins of ESPN Stats & Info compiled for us.
Fisher’s winning percentage now is .542 (142-120). Among NFL coaches who have at least 140 regular-season wins, only Dan Reeves has a lower win percentage. Reeves was 190-165-2 in the regular season, for a .535 mark.
Among head coaches with at least 140 regular-season wins, no one has had fewer winning seasons than Fisher’s six. The next closest would be nine winning seasons (Mike Shanahan and Marv Levy).
If you knock that down to a 120-win threshold, Fisher still has the fewest winning seasons. Jim Mora (215), Dick Vermeil (120), Mike Ditka (121) and Weeb Ewbank (130) all had seven winning seasons.
Among coaches with 140 regular season wins, Fisher’s 5-6 playoff record makes for the third-worst playoff winning percentage (.455). Marty Schottenheimer is at .278 (5-13) , Chuck Knox at .389 (7-11) and Bud Grant is also at .455 (10-12).

The things is with Young is that he is relatively easy to take a shot on

1. He will come cheap
2. His "crimes" are personal immaturity. He didn't kill dogs, DUI and kill a person, use drugs, conspiracy to murder, etc.
3. He is still young enough that a team that takes a gamble on him will get his prime QBing years.

He is not the greatest passer but he can win games in the NFL in the right system. But it is up to him to humble himself and work his butt off for whatever coach decides to take that chance - if any do.

Randall, a QB far more accomplished than Young, found himself out of work in his prime with no offers.

But with Randall, I think too many GMs were idiots that didn't realize it was mostly having the worst OL in the league that undid Randall. With Young, I'm not sure that's the problem, I thought the Titans OL has been decent and even good. With Young, I fear he could be a head case, but if those that don't like Fisher are right, it may well be that it is JEFF FISHER that is the head case, not Young. OTOH, maybe it is BOTH ???

Rex Ryan is an idiot. I'm not hoping that the Jets make Peyton look pathetic, but then get SMOKED by Tom Brady and the Pats. Again.

Something else that never gets brought up with Brady vs. Manning, btw, is their home environments.

Tom Brady has to play in the freezing cold/snow, and in a division with plenty of it.

Peyton Manning plays in a dome, and in a division with all warmer weather cities.

Kind of like Singletary in SF. Everyone loved his tough guy act until they didn't start winning.

You have to earn the right to be a jerk or an ass as an NFL coach.

And Harbaugh turns it down? What do they put in the water at Stanford?

Maybe he thinks he'll have a better chance of being a package deal with Luck next year?

Definitely crazy. He better hope Stanford has an equally great season next year.

Sparano and Clausen both have to feel really good right now by the way;

"Umm, ya, don't believe what you read in the media. We really, really like you. Honestly."

Harbaugh to SF.

Will be interesting to see:

what SF does at QB.
who Stanford hires as its coach.
if Luck changes his mind.

Luck may have to pull a John Elway to convince Carolina to drop to 7.

Ya, I don't think that can happen. I'm simply saying that he should think about changing his mind now KNOWING that he'll have to play for a new coach, and possibly a new system.

I was wondering about Luck changing his mind again too. What is the cutoff date for a player to either be in or out of the draft?

Not sure. Last year I believe it was January 15th.

Yep, January 15th.

Thanks for checking Dustin. That's a little quicker than I thought it would be. So Luck doesn't have very long to decide.

No prob, Lynn.

That does seem early, but I guess the NFL deserves their time to evaluate players/options, etc. Plus getting all of the combine/workouts set. The draft, best day of the NFL year IMO, is only about 3 1/2 months away!

Thing is, if Luck does change his mind and Harbaugh convinces the braintrust in SF to trade up, CAR can still get a very good QB along with a lot of other picks to help their rebuilding there. I don't know if CAR would mind trading down as much as others may think they don't want to. If SF is involved, they can probably get more than value for the pick.

I'm guessing the move from #7 to #1 would cost SF their entire 2011 draft and their 2012 1st rounder.

Fantastic stuff from Bill Simmons on two great ones.
(sorry if it's already been posted)

And ... good luck not throwing up in your mouth a little when you read down and see that we were blessed here with 2 of the top ten QB seasons of all time (and did nothing with them in the end)
Fascinating stuff.
Really admire these two guys and what they have accomplished. And they are both far from done.
