That's funny, Tim.  If Denny green wouldn't even consider you, you know your situation is pretty pathetic!

Yes, I did.  The Yanks weren't ever going to win when they got away from pitching and towards "power" hitters.  The key was losing a guy like Knoblauch at the top with Jeter.

The Yanks' problem has been a systemic problem.  I don't see any such issues with the Pats.

It doesn't.  It just seems like JC was trying to diminish BB as a coach, and to me that is completely unfounded.

What diminishes Bill B is that he is a blatant and compulsive cheater, and then a liar as well.

Seriously, they have to watch this guy like a hawk. I guarantee he is out there right now trying to figure out a way to "interpret" the rules in a way where he's doing it right and the NFL is "mistaken".

Ya, I'm sure he is too.

And I'm sure there are 29 other coaches doing the same thing.

No way. There were a handful of coaches that were trying to cheat to the extend that Bill did, and none of them were as accomplished at it as the master. Not Mike Tice, nor Brad Childress, not a lot of the coaches were even thinking about trying to cheat on this leve, they were too busy just trying to coach their teams.

Bill B found a weakness (stupidity, naiveta) in the system, exploited it amazingly, and tutored a few other coaches in a brilliant way to cheat.

And if allowed to, he will do it again. They need to watch that guy like crazy. He is literally a danger to the integrity of the game. They should watch all coaches, just on principle, but very especially this guy. He is pathological in his need to cheat.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that the Patriots seemed to have teams less and less "figured out" as the year went on and they became further removed from their tape library.

I think that's exactly right.

If football were war, and there were no rules, Bill B would be the greatest coach ever. There is not a better guy ever in terms of getting information and using it, he's brilliant in that regard. Unfortunately, he got that information by cheating. He was a "better" cheater than most everyone else, but I still find it despicable to win while cheating so blatantly. He knew exactly what he was doing, he knew exactly what could happen if he got caught, and he didn't give a damn. It was worth the tradeoff to him, and that should tell people exactly how important the cheating was.

We won't ever agree on this, so I think it's pointless to keep discussing it.

Let's get back to the Vikes!

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/09/21/Week3/4.html

quote:

I think Boys Will Be Boys, Jeff Pearlman's new book about the Dallas Cowboys in their glory days, and their decline from them, should not be dismissed as the rantings of a jaded sportswriter. Pearlman, obviously, has hit several nerves, and I applaud him for it.

Pearlman writes that Michael Irvin, incensed that tackle Everett McIver, in mid-haircut, would not leave a barber chair at training camp in 1998 so Irvin could get his haircut first, stabbed McIver in the neck. McIver was rushed to the hospital and survived, but not without losing a lot of blood. Irvin's silence on the charge has been deafening. I asked a Cowboy who played on that team if the story was true. "Absolutely,'' the Cowboy said. "I'm surprised it was kept quiet over the years.''

Pearlman writes in great detail about the White House, the house of ill repute Dallas players owned and managed near Valley Ranch, and he lampoons Deion Sanders, quoting Dallas corner Kevin Smith thusly: "When Deion came in, something changed for the worse. Guys who should have been studying football on a Wednesday at 12 o'clock were focused on other things. Deion was such a freaky athlete that he could shake one leg and be ready to cover anyone. But the guys following his lead weren't nearly as talented.'

In the first defensive team meeting Sanders attended, Pearlman writes, Sanders put his feet up on a table, and when defensive coordinator Dave Campo asked him to break down a play, Sanders said, "Hey, coach. I got that dude right there. Wherever he goes, I go. All that Cover Two stuff you're talking about -- y'all work that out.''

Pearlman writes that Troy Aikman was disgusted by Sanders. And Barry Switzer, too. He also notes that Switzer's liquor tab during the week of the Pittsburgh-Dallas Super Bowl in Arizona was $100,000. That's a heck of an example to set, Barry. What a great hire.

Again, did anyone in 2001 think the Yankees would go this whole decade without winning another World Series?

The jig is up on the Pats.  Last year was their big shot for #4 and they blew it.

"2 plays" my rear end.  The 98 Vikings were 1 play from a SB - so what?  They LOST!

The 2007 Pats have finally replaced the 98 Vikings as the greatest chokers in history.

Their entire team is in decline and teams are going to be going after them this year.  Cassell is brutal, might as well start Sam Cassell.

No and I agree with you. I really thought the Yankees would win one more with Mussina. Just think Mussina went to the Yanks the year after their last one after wasting away in Baltimore.

I think all the teams pushed the line with video, Belichick might have taken it to such a level that his arrogance had to be repremended.

To me their cheating was like Tice scalping tickets. There was a rule that wasn't being enforced until someone crossed the line so far the league had to make a statement.

I feel bad for Moss and I am friends with Tom Brady's first cousin, so I am biased towards the Patriots. With that said they are done with this group as you said. Maybe Brady will make a run in 4 years with a whole new cast.

The lack of adjustment yesterday was just like Childress when his script is done.

I think they could make another run in 2011.  It is going to take 2 years to rebuild that defense and maybe 1 year to fortify the offensive line.

However, they are like Mike Tyson after Buster Douglas; other teams are no longer afraid and will come after them hard.

It is identical

The Pats have gotten away from the stifling defense that they had and now teams can rock them.

The Yanks blew it trading Soriano for A-Rod : huge mistake.

He was the anti-Bernie Williams type player

I'm not even slightly convinced that the things that Bill B. was caught doing was commonplace.   I've never seen any hint of allegations directed toward any other team, and you can bet that some of that kind of thing would leak out if it was.

The only thing we've got is the idea that if one coach had that scheme, then others MUST have too.   I'm not buying it.

Hank Baskett is alive and well in Philadelphia:

quote:

Monday, September 22, 2008 What's up with Baskett and the Playboy Bunny? Eagles receiver Hank Baskett seems to be quite chummy with Kendra Wilkinson, a Playboy model and one of the co-stars on E!s "The Girls Next Door." Wilkinson is, on the show at least, one of Hugh Hefner's live-in girlfriends. We're told Wilkinson, 23, and Baskett, 26, (pictured together here) recently dined together at Redstone (500 Rt. 73 S) in Marlton. She lists "HB3" as one of her heroes on her MySpace page, and Baskett's page, which is private, says "HB3 in LOOOOOVVVVEEEE!!!!" An Eagles spokesman contacted Baskett and told us he didn't hear back from the receiver. E-mails to Playboy publicists were not returned since Thursday.

UPDATE:  Baskett was on Wired 96.5’s Chio in the Morning show today and was asked ( hear the clip here) about our report about he and Wilkinson, whose mother Patti was a former Eagles cheerleader. "It's funny how I woke up to that stuff on my front porch," Baskett told the radio station. "She's a good good friend of mine. She loves the team. She's a die hard Chargers fan too but she loves the Eagles," said Baskett. Perez Hilton, who borrowed heavily from, yet linked to, our report this morning, says that Wilkinson was at yesterday's Eagles game in a private suite. We're awaiting confirmation from the Eagles on that. Meanwhile, What Would Tyler Durden Do, claims to be reporting an exclusive that Baskett and Wilkinson are engaged and have been for some time. Hmmm. Still no word from Playboy.

Jimmy Johnson was trying to provide some cover for Bill.

To me there is a huge difference between having a runner on second trying to steal the catcher's signals, and having someone dressed in a diguise sit in the centerfield seats with binoculars taping every signal, getting a read, then using a headset to wire that information directly to the batter so that he knows what the call is on every pitch right before it happens.

I'm quite sure that most baseball teams try to do the former, and I'm quite sure that only a pathological cheater with little morals would do the latter.

I think a lot of NFL teams try their version of the former, I think Bill B got pretty close to the NFL version of latter.

And he for sure will try it again unless they routinely do spot checks on him

Rivers really looks soft to me.

I don't know how he is so successful.  He really aims his passes and does not look like a natural passer.

Kornheiser is brutal

Why do the Jets have to throw every down?  They are only down 10 with over 2.5 quarters left in the game!

Favre seems to have lost a lot off his ball.

Damn I wish LT would have gotten in. Ian has River's in fantasy against me. Damn Gates pass, He has over come a 25 point deficit in the 20 teamer.

I know he is tough to watch, but the ball seems to zip in with deadly accuracy at times. '

That qB draft is looking solid, Manning, Rivers and Big Ben.
