Oregon leads the nation in Turnover Margin, they know what they're doing.

I amend my earlier indictment of the Big 12 not playing defense to say almost no college defense can keep up with the offenses. If you didn't score 40 in your bowl game, you're a bitch. Weird season, but perhaps the current wave.

It's a really good point. As long as football continues to try to appeal to 12 year old girls (all offense all the time) this is the crap we're going to get. Personally, I think all of football has become a bit of a joke now.

Ah, here comes the
"It ain't football if it ain't SEC Football Argument"

Oregon gave you defense, they held FSU to 20 points and they forced 5 turnovers and were gifted two others as FSU was desperate to move the ball and stay in the game.

The whole country is saying the College Playoff is the best thing ever and Skilz says it has become a joke.

You'd be gloating big time if Alabama and FSU would have won.

The SEC was and is over rated.

The proof is on film for everyone to see.

the big "o'fer" in the inaugural playoff is all you need to see, and combined with the SEC "record" this year in bowl games points out how over rated the conference is.

Being a fan of the B1G, I'd like Ohio State to win it all, and shut up the "experts" who say the conference is weak, but in fact I want Oregon to win, because I think they are the better team.

You're right though, it's good either way, but man I want this one!

Awful record? Contrary to the media narrative, the SEC went 7-5 in Bowl games this year. Really 8-4 (LSU travesty call game against the Irish). And you also have to consider the matchups.

Yes, the #1 team lost to the #1 team from the Big 10. But then consider:

The #3 team in the SEC lost to easily the #1 team from the Big12
The #2 team in the SEC lost to the #2 team from the ACC.
The #4 team in the SEC beat the 3rd or 4th best team in the ACC, handily.
The #5 team in the SEC barely lost to the 2nd or 3rd best team in the Big10, in OT.
The #6 team in the SEC lost to a borderline top-25 team, and really won if not for a horrific (video evidence) TD call.
The #7 team in the SEC beat the 4th best team in the Big10, handily.
The #8 team in the SEC beat the 5th or 6th best team in the Big12.
The #9 team in the SEC beat the 5th or 6th best team in the Big12.
The #10 team in the SEC beat Eastern Carolina.
The #11 team in the SEC beat the 6th or 7th best team in the Big10.
The #12 team in the SEC beat the 5th or 6th best team in the ACC.

If anything, the depth of the conference showed. People in here have said "It's Alabama and then everyone else", which is ridiculous. 4 different SEC teams have won national titles in the last 10 years, and no other conference is even close to that. If you want to look at a "1 team and everyone else" argument you can make a much better argument for that with OSU or Oregon, really. OSU won their conference title game by almost 70 points, and Oregon is clearly a major cut above the rest of the Pac12, where it's 2nd best team lost to Boise State in a true home game.

Nope. Wrong, Murf. I was rooting for you guys big-time against FSU. Was great to see. And I don't mind Oregon at all. And the playoff is great. It's far from perfect but it's a step in the right direction. Alabama lost to OSU, pure and simple. Should be a great title game.

My comment was more on football in general, college and pro. Some people like this new style of football where everyone scores 40+ points and whoever has the ball last always seems to win. Where you can march the field for a FG with little issue with 15-20 seconds left and you can barely touch QB's and WR's. I don't. I think it's a shitty brand of football with very little help for defenses. That's all I was saying. And that goes well beyond Oregon, etc. That goes all across Bowl games, as mentioned in the post I quoted.

ohhh, impressive!!

The "4th best" SEC team "beat the 4th best team" in the ACC!!

Now there is a peg to hang your hat on!!

When your down to "4th best beats 4th best in the ACC", you got nothing.

Over rated.. (clap clap.. clap clap clap...)

It's about matchups is what I'm saying. The 2 best teams lost games they should have won (Alabama and Miss St). The #1 team in a fantastic game. And LSU got completely hosed against ND. Other than that, the 9 other games actually went as they should have based on matchups.

I'm just yankin your chain, Skillz..

quite honestly, the SEC makes me sick.. they have shady recruiting, shady "boosters"..and way too much money under the table in College football..

The SEC is not alone in these things, but they are not the be all and end all of College Fottball, either.

They get way, way too much love from the media and undeserved hype and I enjoyed their downfall in the biggest media stage of the year, for college football.

It's great that they have no horse in the race for the Championship.

No worries man.

And I get that. As I've said many times, I'm certainly not some "SEC" guy. If anything I'm a Big10 fan. Michigan/Minnesota. But I do understand the hype having lived in Pac12/Big10/SEC country. SEC fans are crazy passionate. Which, as I've said, leads to more attention, more money, etc. And I don't think it's undeserved when they've dominated the championship level as much as they have over the last decade.

I agree the money in the system is crazy. But that goes for all. You think Oregon/OSU aren't paying players too? Of course they are. There's just probably more of it in the SEC because there are better recruits and more NFL players there as a conference over the last several years. The system definitely needs reform though. Right now it's all half-assed, hypocritical NCAA BS.

Oregon isn't paying players.
They certainly swag players to death, but they aren't paying anybody.

I've got friends who were big time players, they got school, board, and swag, but never pay.

I think all these guys are getting something. I KNOW basketball players at Pepperdine were getting paid, girls paid for, etc. That happened at Pepperdine. So it's going on just about everywhere.

And again, I have pretty much zero problem with it. Everyone's getting their cut but the athletes. I just want to see it transparent.

The #7 team in the SEC beat the 4th best team in the Big10, handily.

I know a certain Sophomore 5 star running back, with an offer to every school in the country who was not offered money or girls at any of the five visits he took.
He was kind of bummed actually.
I think the money has gotten so big, they can't risk it all for one player.

I figured but how did they "handily" beat us? You must not have watched the game. In fact, no homer either, Gopher nation is mega pissed because there is no way we should have lost. We were the better team by far. We got outcoached pretty badly.

Ya, handily is strong. And of course I was rooting for the Gophers. But still: #7 vs. #4.

4, I'm ok with but #7 is VERY debatable. They won the SEC East man.

I'm guessing you are going to say:

Bama
MSU
Ole Miss
Auburn
LSU
A&M
Mizzou

The problem with this, if it's your argument, they beat A&M and could beat LSU and Ole Miss, IMO.

Close. But Georgia is better than them (instead of A&M) and dominated them in their matchup. I think all 6 of those teams would definitely beat Missouri. Georgia just had a tougher schedule than Missouri did. Missouri's really not all that great. They just won a lot of very, very close games this year. Next year they'll probably be something like 11th best in the conference (UT/A&M/Arkansas above them at least).

I'm usually one of the first to tell you how bad our locals are, but I'm 100% in agreement with Jeff.
Our lowly Gophers ARE better than the Missouri team that ended up beating them down.
Sadly.
Once again, its painful to be a MN fan. Even when we get "better" we still cant get it "right".

Glad to hear this .... (no fluorescent crap)

Nike announced on Monday the uniforms that Oregon and Ohio State will wear for the College Football Playoff National Championship presented by AT&T on Jan. 12 -- and in a twist, the Ducks will wear no green or bright yellow.

Nike's title-game uniforms for Oregon and Ohio State feature a surprise look for the Ducks.

Oregon, whose biggest booster is Nike founder and chairman Phil Knight, will wear new away white jerseys with wings on the shoulder and the "Fighting Ducks" logo on the sleeves, both in silver. The team will wear white helmets with gray pants.

The Buckeyes will wear a new home uniform, which was unveiled by Nike last month but wasn't worn in the team's game against Alabama. The scarlet jerseys feature gray stripes on the sleeves and black numbers on the shoulders, a tribute to the school's 1968 championship team.

As was the case for last week's semifinals games, the uniforms feature a diamond-colored swoosh that symbolizes the goal to obtain a championship ring.

Nike has made Oregon jerseys to sell at retail in the No. 8, worn by Ducks quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota. For Ohio State, Nike will sell the No. 15, perhaps for running back Ezekiel Elliott, but it also might be for the year. The quarterback shuffle from Braxton Miller to J.T. Barrett to Cardale Jones has proved to be a merchandising challenge as well.

The jerseys will sell for $160.

Nike is paying Oregon $600,000 in cash and $2.2 million in an equipment allowance this year. Ohio State's contract calls for $1.5 million in cash and $2.5 million in equipment from Nike.

Source: ESPN website: http://espn.go.com/nfl/college/_/letter/o

Current NFL Players

Ohio State – 32 15 defense, 16 offense, 1 kicker

8 DBs

4 LBs

2 DTs

1 DE

1 OT

5 OGs

3 Cs

5 WRs

2 RBs

Oregon – 30 13 defense, 17 offense

6 DBs

3 LBs

4 DEs (for some reason, Haloti Ngata, the ultimate nose tackle, is listed as a DE???)

2 OT

2 OGs

1 C

3 TEs

3 WRs

5 RBs

1 QB

Go figure . . .
They have more WRs, we have more TEs. We have the same number of front seven defenders Despite the "pass happy" PAC12, they have more DBs

In both cases, it dispels the easy myths that their guys are big and slow and that we are nothing but skill guys.

I said it before: not the same old Ohio State/typical Big10 team. Urban Meyer has basically built a re-creation of his old SEC teams in Ohio. Loaded with athletes. I think the key will be if you guys can control their running game, Murf. Because if they run like they can, that'll keep your offense off the field. Gotta get up early and keep Cardale passing.
