At the end of the day I think tonight showed that coaching means more than conferences. Been saying it for many years now; Meyer and Saban are just a cut above every other coach in the country. Arguably the 2 best college coaches ever already, considering that they've proven it at multiple places and now 3 and 4 titles, respectively. That was a big difference tonight. And I hate the Buckeyes, but they'll be a contender every year while he's there.

Kudos to him and to our Buckeyes fans on here, and sorry to the Oregon guys (Murf/Art/Kurt, etc.). You guys still had a hell of a run.

Awesome win!!!!!!!

Ohio State gits er done!

The OLine and Elliot's vision were amazing. They made the plays when needed over powered Oregon. The Ducks got 4 TOs at least 2 were unforced.

Mariota looked good but he wasn't dominant, his accuracy was little off but he suffered big time from Stanford's drops. I love the irony, Stanford has pretty much cost the Ducks in one way or another again.

The best damn team in the land is the best damn team in the Nation again!

Agreed coaching was the difference, obviously more than that, but you could just see in the pre game talk on the sidelines Helfrich was nervous and up tight while Urban was cool and collected. Remember the Ducks fumbled twice (one was down by contact), dropped two 3rd downs, they were probably over enthused.

I think the big thing was physicality. Obviously I guess. Oregon really has to get bigger to break through. Because similar to the Auburn game against them, they got worn down on the lines throughout the night. And if you control the lines, you control the game and can milk clock. Ohio State did that tonight, give them credit. Despite a 4-0 turnover margin until the last few seconds, OSU controlled the TOP 37+ minutes to 22+. You don't lose many games when you do that.

Just as I suspected, losing is less fun than winning.

have not watched a lot of college football this year, but between last year and what i have seen this year, i think the Mariota kid can play on Sundays

we will see

I like him. I like Teddy a lot more.

Well that one hurt.

Oregon folds in the big games unfortunately.

Not as easy as it was, and not use to playing grind it out games.

I obviously like Teddy more as well. The kid goes through his progressions unlike any young QB I've seen.

I can barely remember my last team that won the big one.. '77 Blazers... Sad night...

Lost to a better team.

Sorry Kurt. Tried to tell you guys how good this OSU team is. Loaded with NFLers

I know Oregon was supposedly more equipped to handle "big" teams, but I think past Oregon teams impressed me more

I know they were missing a couple guys but didn't see the explosive players past teams had

Not sure what to think of Mariota. Love him as a person and college player, but not sure I saw what I liked against NFL quality players
There is already talk of Mariota slipping. I'm sure Chip Kelly will be salivating
That would be a great match

But also a lot of overreaction this AM

Congrats to both teams and their fans, and to the undeserving NCAA for starting the process of deciding a champion in a reasonable way (while still raking in cash for everyone but the players). According to most, including the committee, the demonstrably best team in the country wasn't even "in" until they won their conference championship by almost 60. Expand to 8-12 and get out of the way, NCAA; the money train is going to pick up considerable pace.

It is great to see the Big 10 back on top

and very strong contenders to repeat?

They will probably be the preseason #1, followed by 7 or 8 SEC teams. Then maybe TCU, followed by a couple more SEC teams......

Yeah, more fake SEC teams

I would NOT pencil in Mariota as a NFL stud QB

He will need some work

AMAZING

Now Oregon fans saying they lost because they didn't have their 2nd WR?

WTF?

OSU was on their 3rd string QB

Get outta here

They lost because their defense is soft and Mariota is overrated

Their recievers dropped passes on consecutive third downs. Killing drives. On the second the wr was WIDE OPEN. Brought back memories of Troy Williamson, except it didn't bounce off his facemask.

Part of football

Bottom line - they were outclassed

Interesting story now is what happens to the 3 OSU QBs

Anybody who followed Ohio State this year just a little bit would know the potential of this team. After the Wisconsin game I told my buddies that Ohio State would probably win it all. Up to that game I wasn't sure about their defense, but man they got that group playing some ball now. Their offensive skill players are simply outstanding.

Right, and you can't talk about the drops, because OSU basically fumbled 4 times, 2 of them unforced. Part of the game. The better team (and maybe more importantly better coached team) appeared to win.

JC, sounds like Miller may go to FSU and there has been some talk (crazy as it sounds) that Jones may go pro. That'd be nuts, but I could see the argument. He's already 22 and has a wife and kid, and who knows? He maybe could be a fairly high pick just based on potential vs. not knowing for sure if he's going to start or not next year.

Personally, I think Jones is a lot better QB than Barrett or Miller, even from a small sample size. Because he's so huge and has such a great arm. Both Nick Saban and OSU's own receivers have basically said that, saying they're a completely different team because of his ability to throw the ball vs. Miller/Barrett.

Good stuff

I agree about the coaching - huge difference

Also, I am not sold on the Chip Kelly offense winning championships. In fact, I think each year that it doesn't win the chances shrink as teams learn how to play it

Jones has so much upside - could be a late developer like Mark Rypien

Until you consider that the team that won used a Chip Kelly type spread offense.

Did I miss something, who (Duck Fans) in here actually said anything like that?

There are crazies everywhere, representing every team that will say crazy/ myopic crap.

I posted minutes after the game saying they lost to a better team....

Yeah Murf, they seriously couldn't push the kid back. 3 & 2 was an easy first down for them, as he just fell forward.

He made some throws downfield I didn't think he could make. They really kicked our ass.

wow, i did not know that Jones was even eligible to go pro.

shows how much college football i watched this year

What about Peyton to the Titans, let Jones sit for a year (two?)

Tampa --- Winston Florida kid sells tickets

Titans --- Jones Learns under Peyton for a year, and Tennessee gets their love child back to close his career

Jets ---- wind up with Mariota (or Winston?)

its gonna be a FUN offseason!!!

I'd go so far as to say that Jones has a better arm than both Winston and Mariota, based on a limited sample.

Would be really, really interesting to see where he'd go in the draft if he comes out.

granted #2 overall seems like a HUGE reach for a RAW talent, but a QB with those measurables and a champion, under weird scenario

i could see somebody swinging for the fence

I think the chances are better for Peyton to join the Titans as an owner than a player. They're probably the worst team in football, so he'd have zero shot of winning a SB there anyway. Probably about zero shot of even making the playoffs.
