"Let's go Royals!" chanted at Chiefs game. Who said baseball was dead?

I probably missed the news - but which Yankee has been declared to be next season's year-long-lovefest-because-he-has-decided-to-retire player? We need to get the tribute factory started up again in about a week.

ARoid doesn't deserve 1/10th of the lovefest that Jeter got. And I think Jeter got too much.
His tribute should be to how he was so driven to be the best ever that he because a maniacally overzealous and arrogant cheating asshat.

Instead of Sinatra singing "My Way", It should be Spin Doctors "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong".

Nope. He'll be back in 2015, but he's got 2 more years after that under contract.

Can't believe Dustin has gone to the Jeter side. How he lasted this entire season is beyond me. One of the worst seasons in MLB history. And he kept batting 2nd!

Don't disagree there, Matt. He should have moved positions or retired a year or two ago IMO. But I've just come to respect him. It's like the Spurs in the NBA. I used to hate them with a passion. But man, you have to respect them. Now I don't mind them at all. Of course Lebron has a little something to do with that for me.

Like I said, I'm a baseball fan above all else at the end of the day over a fan of a team, as much as I love the Twins. Jeter has been the face of baseball for a long time now and has done it with class in every facet. Mike Trout has a lot to live up to in that regard for the next decade. The game will miss Jetes.

Why would you hate the Spurs???????

Epitome of putting team before individuals in a sport sooo dominated by individualism.

Miles, I hated them because I am, always have been, and always will be a Laker fan. They were our competition for years. That's all. I love and respect the Spurs now. Hope Duncan and Kawhi get another ring this year.

I hate and despise the Lakers......why? Because how many lakes are in LA?????

If you move the team, change the nickname. I hate every team that has left MN and gone elsewhere and done well.

But, I loved the way Magic played the game and I have been a huge Alcindor fan from his days at UCLA and then as a Buck

And I love the Wisconsin commercials.

If I was born like 5 years later, I'd be a TWolves fan, who I still root for. But they weren't around when I fell in love with basketball. And if you lived in the 80's you were either a Lakers fan or a Celtics fan. Plus I always loved that they were "from" Minnesota. My entire family is Lakers fans. I loved Worthy, Kareem and Coop, but Magic Johnson (along with Kirby) is my favorite athlete of all time. And will forever be. There will be more Michael Jordans or reasonable facsimiles. Kobe kind of is one to me. There will never be another Magic Johnson.

And as you know, I'm fiercely loyal. So I'm "all Minnesota" except for the Lakers and Duke.

Interesting

@keithlaw
Completely in favor of the rule MLB is testing out in this year's @MLBazFallLeague, keeping batters in the box during their AB.

Yup. As they should. They should also keep pitchers on the dirt/mound at all times.

Sounds like there might be a pitch clock as well.

Also good. Start enforcing the rules! It's not rocket science. People will complain a whole lot less about the inevitable expanded reviews coming if they shorten the game dramatically in a natural way.

Here's the changes:

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/11622632/mlb-use-experimental-speed-rules-arizona-fall-league

Love all of these. Makes no sense to make these guys throw balls for an intentional walk. Complete waste of time. Hopefully that is gone from MLB soon.

I'm going to a game or two in AZ later this month so I'll let you guys know how it is.

I think it's important to make them throw the pitches for an intentional walk. It gives the opposing manager a chance to consider options for the next AB.

Not really, Matt. How often is an issued intentional walk unexpected? Almost every time you can see it coming.

The old way of intentional walking without throwing four pitches is the Bob Gibson "why should I waste three pitches" pitch.

Especially when the catcher stands up and puts his hand out to the side...

But I think they should throw the pitches. It's rare anything goes wrong but someone might goof it up and throw it to the backstop, or maybe decoy it into a pick off move...etc..

Octavio Dotel retires. His 10.8 K/9 is the best ever by any righty with over 900 career innings.

Maybe someone's already posted this, but Max Scherzer reportedly turned down 6/$144m. I got a feeling he's going to end up regretting that. Unbelievable.

This is my problem with "getting an ace"
These guys are usually on the wrong side of 30 and you have to sign them to ridiculous terms in order to get them.
