ORIGINAL: MDK Matt....trivia question: The song Sink the Bismark came after the movie....the movie inspired the creation of the song. What other famous song was written after the movie appeared......movie inspired the song's creation hint: This one is a famous western Gunsmoke. The man who shot Liberty Valence And yes, I have to look up the periodic table. I don't have it memorized. I had heard that Gene Pitney was hired to do theme the song for the movie but they decided not to use it as the song's style didn't seem to fit too well as the movie was more old school western. Many people take Gene Pitney's recording of "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" to be the theme song from the movie but, as Gene himself reports: "The song `Liberty Valance' was written for the movie but for some strange reason never was put in the sound track. Because of the prior success with `Town Without Pity,' I was paid a bundle to record the song, and Burt Bacharach produced it. He wrote the song with Hal David. There was some screw-up between the publishing company Famous Music, and the parent company, Paramount Pictures, as to why it never was in the actual film[...] The most bizarre part of the story I found out a few years ago. The actual music used in the film was from a 1938 Henry Fonda film called Young Mr. Lincoln (1939). Go figure that out!" That is pretty cool Kerry........so the movie did inspire the song but it was composed along side with the movie. I knew it had come out after the movie.....didn't know it was prepared alongside the movie. On another note: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.............favorite western of all time (at least mine) This time, right between the eyes. Floyd: It's Liberty! He - he's hurt! [Doc approaches Valance's body] Floyd: It's Liberty. Doc Willoughby: Whiskey, quick. Person on street: Here, sir. Doc Willoughby: [takes a drink, turns Valances body over with his foot] Dead. [walks off] I think it was the first film in which a John Wayne movie character refers to another character in the film as "pilgrim." My favorite western also - tons of "famous" character actors.. Should have been made 20 years earlier though as both Wayne and Stewart were way older than the characters they played.
