Reminds me of that phenomenal Big Red Machine stretch in the 70s.

Not sure if it was '75, but they won 108 games that year.

1977

George Foster hits 52 dingers/149 RBI, SLG of .631 "Only" struck out 107 times, walked 61 times.

Serious numbers in that era.

3 year stretch 121/149/120 RBI's

Fonzie 4 more hits, only drove in 1 as NYY loses
Phil Hughes needs a scenery change.

Would be a decent add to the MN rotation.

Russell Martin was sure a key loss for NYY, and a HUGE pickup for the Pirates this year.

Oakland can sure pull guys out of the woodwork to contribute.

Some Dookie 6'8" first baseman has 4 RBI's for them today.

Bob Ryan nails it on replay .... No challenges.
Someone overlooks play in a booth. Changes obvious screw-ups.
Yep, that'd be my choice too.
NHL does that with off-ice officials in Toronto.
It works most times.
Biggest reason is to avoid OBVIOUS blown calls.

In late June when everyone was praising the Pirates, I said they did the same the previous 2 years and faded fast after all star break and I would expect the same. Boy was I wrong, they are still playing good baseball and in 1st place. We might see them as buyers yet before this month is over

* Clete Thomas - sixth-highest strikeout rate (35.1%)
* Brian Dozier - ninth-highest WAR (0.9), highest WAR among 2B, tied for second-most 2B HR (3)
* Andrew Albers - lowest K/9 among qualified SP (2.1), third-lowest BB/9 (0.5), lowest BABIP (.113)
* Mike Pelfrey - second-highest BB/9 (5.8), ninth-highest xFIP (5.17)

That's why it's hard to get very excited about his hot start.

And then on one hit 50 home runs in a seaon again until 1991.  A Few years later everyone was amazed when it seemed everyone was doing it. (except the Twins)

"60 Minutes" has learned that members of New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez's inner circle in February obtained and leaked documents that implicated Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun as well as his own Yankees teammate, catcher Francisco Cervelli, in the doping scandal that has enveloped Major League Baseball.

In a statement to "60 Minutes," Rodriguez lawyer David Cornwell said, "The allegations are untrue and are another attempt to harm Alex -- this time by driving a wedge between Alex and other players in the game. While Alex focuses on baseball and repeatedly states that he is going to respect the appeal process, the drumbeat of false allegations continues."

Red Sox are 0-14 on Aug 15 since '98
As good as they've been, that's just plain weird.

They're obviously still bummed about President Nixon completing the break from the gold standard by ending converability of the US dollar into gol by foreign investors on this date in 1971.
