Cardinals top prospect Alex Reyes was suspended 50 games for smoking pot. If he'd been on 40-man roster he wouldn't even be tested. So dumb.

Very compelling stuff, Doug

meh...last time I played this game it was kind of a let down, so, I pass.

Yes, I remember that. You attempted to say more than ten words and quickly found out you were out of your depth.

Good question. Just the writer's whim/opinion when he wrote it I guess.

Lowest Hall Rating, on the Hall of Fame ballot:

David Eckstein 29
Brad Ausmus 31
Garrett Anderson 37
Mike Sweeney 37
Mark Grudzielanek 39

Highest Hall Rating, not on the HOF ballot…

Chan Ho Park 36
Ronnie Belliard 33
Gil Meche 27
Scot Shields 27
Gregg Zaun 27

It's amazing these guys are even on the list.

Garrett Anderson and Mike Sweeney were very good ballplayers but they are not close to be HOFers. They would even tell you this.

Jacque Jones got a vote last year or the year before. What is that?

Angels first baseman Albert Pujols had surgery last week to “repair the planter plate in his right foot,” per a team announcement. He’s expected to return to full baseball activities in four-and-a-half months, according to the release.

That timeline suggests that Pujols will miss some time early in the season. With the Halos’ season set to kick off on April 5th, Pujols would not have much time to ramp up in preparation for regular duties. And he’ll obviously be out for most or all of the Cactus League action.

Johan Santana, who last pitched in #MLB in 2012, hopes to play in 2016, according to agent Peter Greenberg.

Yeah sure Johan. I love ya...but.

I do admire him for giving it a shot......again. My favorite all-time Twins pitcher.

What? So players on the 40-man roster don't get tested for drugs or is it simply smoking pot? So what you are saying is that ML baseball has a safety-valve if you are on the protected player list of each team. IOW, players on the 40-man can easily take PED and get away with it. Is that correct?

It is actually embarrassing for MLB that they allow players with short careers or average careers to even receive nomination. The nominating committee needs to have certain minimum standards or criteria that can even promote a player to be considered.

I'll never knock a guy for trying. I'm not in the camp he's tarnishing his legacy. He loves the game, more power to him. He sure ain't doing it for the money. And that shoulder has had plenty of rest. It might just hold up!

Had Ryan not loaded up on over-priced free agent mediocrity (Hughes, Nolasco, Santana) I'd take a flyer on Santana.

I would think any team could acquire Santana's services at around $1.5 million or whatever the league minimum is for a tenured player.

Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested in Maui on Halloween for domestic violence after allegedly assaulting his wife in their hotel room, Hawaii News Now reported.

The station reported Reyes grabbed his wife by the throat and shoved her into a sliding glass door in their room at the Four Seasons Hualalai. His wife told police she had injuries to her thigh, neck and wrist. She was taken to local emergency room.

This is very unfortunate.....I remember seeing an article on ESPN about Reyes and his family and his girls at DisneyWorld doing all the things a dad does with his young daughters.

I hope he gets some help.

I'd offer him a minor league contract with an invite to camp. No guarantees.

There's a reason he hasn't pitched in the majors in three years.

You'd think that if he still has a feel for the changeup, he could pitch like Tom Glavine did late in his career. They key is obviously staying healthy. Achilles injury seems very flukey.

If he had off-season TJ surgery, TR would grab him in a heartbeat.

I started to post something similar to this yesterday. It almost seems as if Gleeman is calling the Cardinals dumb for not having the guy on the 40-man. Is he suggesting it was the Cardinals fault he got busted for coming up dirty???

This is the same kind of rationale that had people leveling lawsuits against McDonalds for causing their high cholesterol rates.

To be honest, TR prefers getting guys the second year off TJ.... That is why he doubled down on Pelfrey.
For some reason TR thought Pelfrey was going to shit gold bars because it was his second year off TJ.

Well Pelfrey certainly shit his pants but the stains he left were not gold colored.

Three of the five AL infield Gold Glove winners were Royals -- 1B Eric Hosmer, SS Alcides Escobar and C Salvador Perez. No other team had more than two Gold Glove winners
