Y'all would "have integrity" and quit and just leave 60 Million Dollars + on the table?

I seriously doubt it.

He's playing a game and getting boatloads of money. Sure it's more than he could possibly ever spend. but he can give a shitload to charity (he probably already does and get a lot of it protected from taxes that way.

You read my whole post? I said if he didn't retire after another shitty year (2016) he is an idiot. In that case he'd be earning ANOTHER 23 million this year. NO matter...

Even if you didn't my whole post read this one so I can relay something personal to you to show you I am not kidding. Put aside the words "have integrity" and let me tell you about what I intend on doing over the six or seven years.

I have taught in the NY state public school system for 19 years. The magic number is 30 years. When you get there, on my step, you get the max pension. It would be nice to get that, but I am 49 and that would make me 60 at my ideal retirement age. Sounds pretty good, however, I am pretty realistic about my situation. My pay grade will be way up there in about five or six years. By that time, I will be in my mid 50s. I am not sure I still want to do it at that point because I have seen what happens to teachers in my district when they get to that point. The powers that be start finding clever ways to force you out. Furthermore, teaching isn't a piece of cake. At least not the way I see it. It requires a ton of energy to be effective and if I can't bring it then I don't want to do it anymore. Especially if they start playing games with me like they have with other teachers. I am not going to be one of those guys. I am going to leave at my peak. A lot of teachers take a "screw them" attitude and stick around just to stick it to them. That ain't going to be me. No way, no how. I am not going to hang on just to milk the max money out of the job. It's that simple. I'd rather leave money on the table and get out before things start to happen. I came to this conclusion within the last year.

My goal now is to get in 25 years and get out. I will still make a decent pension, although it will probably end up being about ten to fifteen grand less a year if I stuck around for 30. Sooner or later I am going to need to figure out what I am going to do with my life after teaching. I will hopefully have my mortgage paid down by then. And when I am done teaching I will simply move on to something else. Even if it means trading in my plan book for an orange apron at Home Depot. I will figure it out.

I am not just saying this stuff. This is what I intend on doing and it is for the reasons stated. Nothing more, nothing less. If that is laughable or ignorant then OK.....y'all can call me an idiot. I am not offended. I have heard it before. I guess I don't understand the mentality that dictates you need to milk the system just because you can. I can understand it if you are doing it to survive, but that is hardly the case with me and it is most certainly not the case with Joe Mauer.

I think Mark's summary is spot on. Why in the world would Joe need to make another dollar? He's already made 150 million. He is a shadow of what he was. I surely wouldn't continue teaching if I was diminished to the point where I was not effective. Why should I cheat the taxpayers? Call me crazy, but I honestly feel this way. Add to the Mauer scenario all this talk about "post concussion" affects. What in the world is he putting himself in peril for? That is straight up foolish.

Precisely Ralph. Mauer has a beautiful wife, two twin daughters and a boat load of money that he cannot possibly spend in his, his children, or his grandchildren's lifetime. At this point, all he stands to gain is additional income that will be paid to the IRS at the rate of 45% in federal estate tax. MN will take an additional bite of 16% of his estate on his MN assets. He is playing supposedly with the risk of a very serious concussion syndrome that could end his career during any game. He could be hit by a pitch in the head (helmet), hit by a ball as a base-runner, be subjected to a collision (with an opposing player or a catcher/2B on his own team) or dive at first base as a defensive player, or be injured via contact at any base as a base-runner. Any of these things happening could cause irreparable damage as we are being told. Yet, Joe takes on the risk that presumably is far less than playing at catcher. If given the same choice as Joe, I would choose retirement without hesitating, especially considering the results Joe has shown the past two seasons.

The underlined. Either he is or he isn't playing with a "concussion syndrome"
The effects are either there or they aren't. If they are then what in the world is he doing playing?
He saw what happened to Koskie. He saw what has gone on with Morneau. This is why when I hear the concussion excuse I roll my eyes. Retire if it's that bad. Pure and simple

If he is going to keep on playing AND have the concussion excuse floated out there then I question his sanity.
He has made 150 million dollars for heaven's sake.

The Giants have confirmed the signing of Cueto to a six-year deal, tweets Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, though it’s still pending a physical.

ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports that Cueto will be guaranteed $130MM wTwitter link). The contract contains both a club option for the 2017 season and an opt-out clause after two seasons, which would give Cueto the ability to hit the free-agent market again in advance of his age-32 season. As we saw with Zack Greinke this winter, that timing can be highly beneficial to a pitcher.

It's a decent contract for the Giants to me only because he can opt out in 2 years.
One of my least-favorite players, hopefully they get the best out of him before he bolts.
Always a sideshow with him.
