Sources: The Jays and Steve Pearce agree to a two-year, $12.5 million deal.

That would seem to lessen the likelihood of Encarnacion returning? Maybe?
Good on Pearce. Of course, he was not good enough to stick with the Twins a few years back.
Holliday to NYY gives them a vet presence, worth as much as anything. That's what Houston did with Beltran.

Solarte and Pearce both hit in the minors and were released....never made any sense.

Kick some tires ...

Despite caps on spending for international free agents in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, Shohei Ohtani may be coming to the United States following the 2017 season, according to reports.
The new CBA caps spending on international free agents at $5 million to $6 million per team for players not yet 25 years old. Ohtani, the famed Japanese pitcher and designated hitter, is just 22 and would likely command more than that on the open market.

When the details of the CBA came out, many speculated Ohtani would remain in Japan until he turned 25. But Sponichi, a Japanese news site, reported the Nippon Ham Fighters are going to post Ohtani after the 2017 season.

Ohtani has played four seasons in the Nippon Professional Baseball, and he is a career .275 hitter. In 2016, He hit .322 with 22 homers and 67 RBIs in 104 games. Ohtani also went 10-4 with a 1.86 ERA and struck out 174 batters in 140 innings on the mound.

Can't get Nishi out of my memory. Dang it.

Don't trust the Asian League guys. MN went for the wrong ones, as usual.

Hope he isn't as stupid as the Pirates guy who drove away from a DWI accident in South Korea last week.

There is a mystery team that is after McCutcheon.

I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Make him your LF. I'm not sold on Rosario at all.

I see the Nats are after McCutcheon and Sale.

Their ownership must want to do more than compete.

I would send Santana and a prospect for McCutch right now....basically same contract.
Then turn around and trade Dozier for Leon/Puig/etc..
Sign Ross on the cheap

From Twins Daily:

The Royals were up to $135 million last year, and they're projected to be at $148 million. Sources told Ken Rosenthal that their break-even point is between $115-120 million, so they will likely be looking to deal some of their key players. They've got a lot of players in that group that are just starting to make some really good money. So, which will they keep and which will they trade?

I saw that. The window is closing at lightning speed in KC.

They have Infante and Vargas at 8 Million, Soria at 8 Million, Gordon at 16 Million, Cain at 11 million, Wade Davis at 10 million........some tough money to move.

Will take it to my grave believing those two World Series runs were on a hope and a prayer. First of all, the league was down. They had a dominating bullpen (which Yost shredded) and good defense. That was about it. Combine that with choking opponents (A's in 2014, Astros in 2015) and by a prayer they made it to two World Series.

That Gordon contract was ridiculous. Matt disagreed and called it a bargain. Gordon has never been that good of a hitter. See Trevor Plouffe. Would you want to pay him $16 million-plus per season?

Tyler Thornburg, Red Sox's new setup man: He's 28, posted 2.15 ERA, 13 saves and 12.1 strikeouts per nine innings in 67 appearances for the Brewers. Dave Dombrowski said he wanted someone with closer ability. Thornburg took over as Brewers closer after Jeremy Jeffress was traded at deadline.

The best indication that Edwin Encarnacion isn't getting the offers he's looking for: Agent Paul Kinzer telling teams there's no hurry to get him signed. Indians, Rockies interested. But Red Sox appear "very unlikely."

Gordon is 33 next year....

2016 Contract details by year 32 $12,000,000 $12,000,000
2017 Contract details by year 33 $16,000,000 $16,000,000
2018 Contract details by year 34 $20,000,000 $20,000,000
2019 Contract details by year 35 $20,000,000 $20,000,000
2020 Contract details by year 36 $23,000,000 $23,000,000

Almost Mauer money in 2020....I would have paid him 12-14 a year

Martin. Jeter. Ruth. Gehrig. DiMaggio. Torre. Mantle. Berra & Dickey. Maris.
When the New York Yankees retire Jeter's No. 2, they'll officially be out of single-digit jersey numbers.
