BOSTON -- Red Sox infielder Eduardo Nunez was removed from Monday night's game against Toronto after he aggravated a right knee injury that caused him to miss the previous 13 games.

Nunez, who sparked Boston's lineup after he was acquired in a trade with San Francisco in late July, doubled in his first at-bat of the game and scored a run.

During his second trip to the plate, he fouled a ball into the seats and dropped to the ground in pain. After talking to a trainer and manager John Farrell, he finished the at-bat with a liner to third, but barely got out of the box and had trouble putting weight on the knee.

When Nunez stepped onto the field for pregame batting practice, he had a big smile on his face as he trotted from the dugout to the batting cage, showing his delight being back in the lineup.

Nunez is batting .313 with eight homers and 27 RBI with Boston.

Liked him with us.
It'll hurt their depth if he's out again.

Nunez helped a ton last year.

Escobar picked up his slack this year. Esp when Sano went down.

Ehire helped too.

Nunez' style of play and flying around is a good energizer for a team.

Hicks gets off the DL today ... and robs a home run
Great catch over the CF fence
Man, we've had some athletes finally!

Once your org stops searching for the perfect 5-foot-6 banjo-hitting utility infielder, by golly, you can actually find some playahs

Make a deal for him in the offseason

or Miggy as the DH/1B

They could be lethal as an offense w/that

It's all about window of opportunities

Core is younger

A hungry to win vet would be a real shot in the arm for the next 2-3

because after 2-3, there will be lost core guys because the Pohlads won't want a huge payroll.

Lorenzo Cain will be a FA 31 years old

LOTS of vets hungry to win could help this team. Pick and choose

DEPTH

Escobar was a real savior for the offense past 2 months.

DH was a chasm most of the time

With dings need more than Fred Garvin/Vargas/Park/Jimmy-nezz as bench options.

You think like I do
When you are good ... try to be great
When you have a decent team ... do what it takes to make yourself the best
Why is that frowned upon here?

Wait ..... does it have something to do with that money thing again ? ..... hmmm

Bats beat the arms in the two WC games. 4 starting pitchers combined for only 7+ innings, 15 earned runs.

Pretty fascinating series starting tonight in Cleveland.
Pretty equal checkmarks on both sides
Clevelands built one hell of a team, but its hard to bet against NYs power and arms.
Could be a great series.

If it isn't painfully obvious to the Pohlads by now it never will be, The way you make money owning a sports team is to WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN.

George Steinbrenner figured that out early on. They can't run this thing like a bank. They have to run it like a baseball team. Enough crying about small market bullshit and such. We are big enough of a market. We have everything here. Every major sport Including a world champion WNBA team, NBA team, NFL team, NHL team, Major league soccer team, independent baseball team, music scene, a theater district that is second only to NY in the US. There is a lot competing in this market for you entertainment dollars. How do you get those people to pay attention? WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN WIN.

When winning this city will come in droves. So take that next step and and WIN.

if they scoff then somebody needs to suggest that maybe they shouldn't be a professional sports franchise owner and they should sell to Mark Cuban or something.

You've built the core. Now supplement them with a stud ace pitcher. and a couple veteran bullpen guys. And a guy that kills left handed pitching and let er rip.

I actually don't like the type of fan that shows up at Target Field when we're winning.

Sorry about that.

I wish it was different, but it's not.

I am not a fan of 'fairweather' fans either. but to get through to the guys writing the checks it has to be about money. And how you make the most money in professional sports is by winning. So even it if means more fairweather fans are in attendence. It means the team is built to win it all. Which is what, in the end, we want. So I will tolerate the bandwagon jumpers if it means a title or two.

True, but the odds favor pitching when you broaden the scope beyond 2 WC games. The Twins were 4th in runs scored and 19th in pitching. Which do want to give up top prospects to improve?

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer

but none of these are difference-makers. All have lower K/IP ratios and are not Ace types that the Twins need.

So who do they go after?

I don't know who. that's the tough part. no one wants to give up their best guys and those on the FA market will command huge money the Pole-ads don't want to spend.

Here is something to consider and when I say consider, I mean DO IT! Jim Hickey and the Rays are parting ways. Fire Allen and hire Hickey immediately.
