So, if I'm the Sox, I give up the grand slam here intentionally to kill this tigers rally. Z, you agree?

Tigers liked your idea so much they tried it.

Crazy they still lost.

Turns out they were trying to win the game instead.

Yes, they certainly outsmarted Leyland.

Speaking of outsmarting, Z, I'm curious as to your reasoning on homers killing rallies and the critical importance of sac bunts.  Thus far you've cited some very smart baseball people that you know who agree with you, but I still haven't heard your reasoning or evidence backing up your theories.  I've offered what I believe to be fairly robust evidence that suggests that both your theories are worthless.  Could you please present evidence backing up your arguments?

Second, if you are going to put a low average contact hitter with no pop in the two-hole, then use him to bunt.
If you are not going to bunt, then don't put a low average contact hitter with no pop in the two-hole.

No, I was just going along with your joke. I have nothing against HRs.

If you have 9 Babe Ruths in your lineup, you should NEVER bunt.

I knew you weren't that stupid!  Still, weird that you insinuated I was an asshole during our conversation, given that you claim you were going along with the joke.

Oh, I believe you were serious about that.  Just an odd way of going along with someone's joke.  What I'm really saying here, Z, is that I don't believe you were going along with my joke at all.  I think you're backing off your idiotic theories of the other day because you can't defend them.  Not because you're lazy, but you have no way of evidencing them.

I have NEVER believed that HRs are rally killers.

Since most teams do not have 9 Babe Ruths, I believe there is a place for a contact hitter in the two spot.
I don't understand a manager who puts a two-type hitter in that spot and then doesn't use him to sacrifice.

The great thing about baseball is that the ball is fair or foul, a strike or a ball, and the runner is safe or out. The umpire makes a call. So much of football depends upon whether the official feels like throwing a flag. The no-calls in football are as important as the calls.

Lincecum gets 2 years 35 mill. Sabean must feel he has money to waste with a bad contract gone(Zito)

Market will be toooo rich for Ryan for any decent guys.

That doesn't make any sense. He's been a far below average pitcher for 2 years in a row.

To some, sacrificing so much for a sporting event seems silly and misguided. For others, it's a decision they know they'd have to wrestle with. And for those who have done it, it's a story to tell, and in some cases a life milestone. For Marcello and company, it sounds like a milestone that he won't soon regret, so here's to their moment and memories made on Wednesday.

Interesting tidbit on Gaylord Perry:

Despite Perry's notoriety for doctoring baseballs (e.g. throwing a spitball), and perhaps even more so for making batters think he was throwing them on a regular basis – he even went so far as to title his 1974 autobiography Me and the Spitter[2] – he was not ejected for the illegal practice until August 23, 1982, in his 21st season in the majors.
Like most pitchers, Perry was not renowned for his hitting ability, and in his sophomore season of 1963, his manager Alvin Dark is said to have joked, "They'll put a man on the moon before he hits a home run." There are other variants on the story, but either way, on July 20, 1969, just an hour after the Apollo 11 spacecraft carrying Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon, Perry hit the first home run of his career.[3]
