Parity my ass.

Even though my team benefits, I concur. MLB needs a salary cap (and floor) badly. When you have top teams spend three times the median and nearly ten times the lowest spending team, something is seriously wrong. Of course, the Yankees spent about as much as the Red Sox and Twins combined, and what do they have to show for it? So you still have to spend wisely. But there's no hope in the middle or bottom. No wonder the NFL is taking market share.

Why do you like the Red Sox?

I guess because they're the team I've been following since I can remember. My first game of any sort was game 7 of the World Series in 1975. Granted, I was 3 months old, so my memories of it are a bit foggy, but it's a life-long thing for me.

As a Vikings fan, I find the Red Sox to be inspiring. They're a lesson in sticking with the team through the dark years. They show that as dark as things might seem (and let me tell you: Bucky F*cking Dent, games 6 and 7 in 1986, and Aaron Boone were every bit as painful as the Knee, 41-0, or Bountygate), eventually things will go your way. Anything is indeed possible. If the Red Sox can go from 0 in 86 to 3 in 10, there's no reason the Vikings can't follow suit.

The Vikings can't follow anything except failure.  Only with new ownership will the Vikings even have a chance to be decent again.

I watched this series for exactly 0 minutes.  I didn't care.  Hate the Red Sox so I didn't want to see them win.  Indifferent about the Cardinals, but only one team in MLB history has more titles than the Cards and that's the Yankees.

Parity my ass.

AMEN!!!

Refreshingly, some non-Red Sox news in MLB. That was an exhausting run of Red Sox All The Time.

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals named Matt Williams their sixth manager in team history on Thursday. The club has scheduled a 2 p.m. ET news conference Friday to introduce the new skipper. Former manager Davey Johnson is expected to be in attendance.

The news conference, to be held at Nationals Park, can be seen live on MLB.com and nationals.com.

General manager Mike Rizzo and Williams, who was the D-backs' third-base coach, worked together in 2001 when Arizona won the World Series with Williams as the everyday third baseman and Rizzo as its scouting director. Williams' only experience as a manager was in the Arizona Fall League in 2012, when he guided the Salt River Rafters to the league finals.

The decision to hire Williams was made by Rizzo and the ownership group, which includes the Lerner family.

"We make most of the big decisions as a unit," Rizzo said during a conference call. "We are all on the same page. [The Lerners] were involved in every interview we had. They certainly voiced their views. This is a decision made by the group, not simply by Mike Rizzo."

Lack of experience didn't seem to matter to Rizzo, who said Williams was acting like a manager when he was a player. Williams, 47, was one of the best third basemen in the 1990s, best known for his days with the Giants and D-backs. He was a five-time All-Star, won four Gold Gloves and led the National League in home runs in 1994. He was on Arizona's coaching staff the past four seasons.

Matty LeCroy was apparently named the bullpen coach.

Tigers declined option on Jose Veras. Also

The Tigers announced, via press release, that the D-Backs have claimed infielder/outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo off waivers.

A number of players being let go/claimed.

Can't believe TRyan hasn't jumped into the bargain bin fray.

The Tigers will hire Brad Ausmus as manager, Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports tweets. The news was first reported via Twitter by Adam Spolane of SportsRadio 610.

Only so many roster spots...he's probably overwhelmed with the options.

No experience necessary. The requirements for the job of major league manager have changed dramatically. Brad Ausmus (Tigers) and Bryan Price (Reds) follow Walt Weiss (Rockies), Mike Matheny (Cardinals), Robin Ventura (White Sox), Don Mattingly (Dodgers), John Farrell (Blue Jays) and Kirk Gibson (Diamondbacks) as managers who were hired in recent years without managing experience on any level. The experience of running a game, if not knowing how to run a game itself, is no longer very important.

Former Phillies, Yankees and Mets manager Dallas Green would routinely rip his players in the media -- something no GM would stand for today.

Ryan rips right along with Gardy.

Ryan rips right along with Gardy.

Certain players only though.

Still waiting for a rip on Mauer.

Oh yeah...he's perfect.

Gardy's history is to rip the slightly above/slightly below average everyday players. He will not rip his pets (typically the worst players on the team) and he will not rip the veterans.

Exactly why Gardenhire needs to go, and Molitor hired.
Cannot think of one reason not to make this decision......NOW!!
I am NOT READY for another two years of Gardenhire! Nor should any fan of the Twins be!

Investigation: Is Jay Z paying players illegally?

Report: MLBPA investigating Jay Z

Jay Z has ruffled plenty of high-dollar feathers with his foray into the sports-management world, from calling out Scott Boras in a song (after signing the Yankees' Robinson Cano away from the super-agent) and calling out Boras in a song, to calling agents "half-ass" and comparing them to robbers.

Well, you didn't expect Boras & Co. to take this sitting down, did you?

According to a report by ESPN on Tuesday, the MLBPA is investigating the rap mogul and founder of Roc Nation sports group for gifts he gave Cano during a birthday party for the free agent second baseman in October.

Among the gifts Jay Z gave his client at the Oct. 22 bash in Belgium were a special limited edition gold "Shawn Carter" edition Hublot watch that came with a $34,000 price tag and is one of only 100.

Why is this a big deal? If Jay Z wants to throw more money at these guys, what's the big deal? They're already professional players. It's not like the players are in college.

I guess it's just not allowed. Possibly puts other agents at a supposed disadvantage? Although I'm not really buying that. Especially from Boras.

Boras is all about staying on top. Revenge on anyone who "crosses him".

Boras is all about making money.
That's all he cares about.
If there is competition he wants to snuff it out.
