Crazy isn't it?
The death grip Altuve puts on his jersey after the walk-off against Chapman …. why did we not suspect anything?
You look at it now and you're like ….. how dumb where WE?
Races to dugout, changes shirt, comes back out. 99.9% tear uni off, put on championship shirt
The only good thing is, he couldn't even enjoy the success, you can see him start thinking about it rounding third …. it hits him ….. oh crap.
Talk about hollow fun. Should be ashamed of himself.

Quick dumb question. How much do we think their cheating actually helped them?

Expand on that please. Why do you think it helped them a ton? They had a second or two advance notice of the kind of pitch that would be coming. Or was it more like ten seconds. How often was the advance notice correct? Is that enough time to process the situation and get a big advantage. I have no idea the answer I'm just asking the question.

The advance notice was almost 100% correct. If they don't hear a noise, they know it's a fastball. Now they can eliminate the breaking balls and just look for location of the fastball. If they know it's an offspeed pitch, they have a pretty good idea of where a particular pitcher is gonna try to locate it. Not only were they notified of an offspeed pitch coming, often they were able to identify it as a 2-seamer or slider (1 bang) or a changeup (2 bangs), or something along those lines. Totally unfair for a pitcher.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. The best indicator of a big advantage will be what happens next season they play. Are any of the players suspended or just penalties to the team?

So how do you feel about Marwin?

I’m going back and forth

Once he became our cheater, I liked him
Just being honest.

As for advantage?
When you are a finely trained and conditioned athlete, that split-second assurance of whats coming …… is HUGE
Doubters will look at next year, and guess what, Altuve as a non-cheater will probably still do ok.
As will most of the other cheaters. That doesn't mean it didn't help tremendously in their past success.
Think about when we are intently watching one of those playoff games.
You see Chapman.
Even those of us sitting in our easy chair, are nervously wondering ….. "damn, he's got this guy in a 1-2 hole. Wow, this would be so tough to have to get a hit here, BECAUSE ….. he might not throw gas here. I might get myself all cranked up because I'm guessing fastball, and that sumbitch drops a yakker on me."
Well guess what, I get into my rhythm, and if I'm NOT cheating, that's the problem. I DON'T KNOW for sure what he's bringing.
But these guys … they wait, and BAM they hear the bang, or they feel the buzz, and suddenly, DUDE'S BRINGING the fastball.
You don't think that makes the game easier?
We can argue HOW MUCH easier, but you cannot possibly argue that it doesn't matter.
In the clip I showed yesterday, you could almost feel the batter reset his process, before anyone normally would, because he KNEW what was coming.

Thanks for that.

The video was incredible

Especially when the reset happens
No bang
Off speed
Easy K

Vs off speed fouling it off multiple times

All those reporters looking for a scoop went half asleep as per norm in the course of a season never caught on

Even when the pitchers saying they know the signs

As for Marwin

Part of me hates him for kicking the Twins by cheating

Part of me embraces him for being on the team now.

It happened and it’s not likely the only long term case

Guys looking for an edge always happening

When did this guy suddenly become a tougher out?

The Grandyman retires.
One on the more entertaining John Sterling calls in NY

Still remember a game when he hit one on Detroit vs Twins and flew around the bases

Do you remember the game when there was some sort of controversial bad call at 3rd base or home plate? I can't remember exactly what happened. If it was a Twins flub-up or if Grandy did something crooked. It was in Detroit in around 2010 I think. We were at that game. And I remember getting back to our Detroit hotel room and watching the replay a bunch of times, but for some reason I can't recall the exact circumstance.

THIS

Sometimes its hard work
Sometimes its cheating
Sad that things like this now make us think the hard worker is cheating, too.

2009

I want to say it was the August 9th game that we lost 8-7.

Found it. It was Friday August 7th. We lost 10-8:

I can't believe no one has commented on the atrocious umpiring at
Friday night's game.

1. Mauer and Harris caught speedster Curtis Granderson in a rundown
between third and home. Harris tags Granderson on the foot, wheels to
throw to second base as Granderson trots home to score. Umpire was
standing about six feet away and had a dead-on view of the play.
Replays were inconclusive (at least for me) but the TV crew was
certain Granderson was tagged. After the game Granderson admitted he
was tagged but didn't hear the out call so kept on running to home.

2. Pitcher Gallaraga was not coming to a complete stop in his delivery
with men on base. Balks were not called.

3. Home plate umpire was calling a lot of low balls strikes that I
thought were balls. At least he was calling them that way for both
teams.

4. Here is the coup de grace. Three bad calls on the same play. In the
fifth with Cabrera and Guillen on third and first respectively, Avila
smashes a line drive right down the first base line. It looks to me
like Morneau was reaching across the foul line to catch it, ball ends
up glancing off his glove and heads toward the wall down the right
field line. Foul ball--umpire gaffe #1. As Cuddyer scrambles to
retrieve the ball a fan reaches down and deflects the ball, but no
interference is called--umpire gaffe #2. Cuddyer relays the ball to
Punto and Punto fires to the plate. Mauer applies the tag to the back
of Carlos Guillen before he slides across the plate. Umpire calls him
safe--gaffe #3. Replays clearly show that Mauer tagged Guillen out.

Of course the remedy for bad umpiring is to score more runs. However,
there was so much bad umpiring going on, even though the Twins scored
8 runs they couldn't win. Take away Granderson's score and Guillen's
score and the Twins might have won.

Other thoughts: Carlos Guillen sure got a workout. He must have been
gassed after the game. He tried to score after a thrown ball hit him
in the back as he was sliding into third after he had tripled, and got
thrown out at the plate. Later he ran from first to home on the
aforementioned foul ball double by Avila and "scored".

What's with Gallaraga's hesitancy to throw strikes, especially with a
5 run lead?

Attendance was good at Comerica with 36,000+. Tigers have 4th highest
average attendance in the AL; Twins have the 5th.

Maybe when he stole third? Granderson was 1-4 with a walk and run scored

Detroit went 8 over .500 with the win

Twins were 3 under at the time

Made up a lot of ground

In your Friday game

Twins 8 runs 15 hits
13 singles

I don’t miss those days

Swarzak lasted an inning
Coughing up 7 runs
