12:38pm: The A's have acquired outfielder Craig Gentry from the Rangers in exchange for Michael Choice, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (on Twitter). Other players are involved in the deal as well, adds Passan.

Castellanos is lucky, he can probably stink for a while and Detroit will still do well thanks to their pitching and overall hitting.

Miggy moving back to first is no surprise to anyone.  It's not like he played a different position his whole career, suffered an injury because of that position and had to move.

He played first base until they signed Prince Fielder...so they moved him to third which he played before (albeit poorly).

Status: offline 		The Red Sox have agreed to terms on a two-year, $9.5MM contract with right-hander Edward Mujica, according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. Mujica, who is represented by Octagon, will take a physical today, according to Passan.

Mujica, 29, possesses some of the best command of any pitcher in the Majors. He issued just five walks in 64 2/3 innings this season to go along with 46 strikeouts and a 2.78 ERA. Mujica entered the season buried on St. Louis' bullpen depth chart but ascended to the role of closer. Jason Motte underwent Tommy John surgery, Mitchell Boggs flopped and the Cardinals elected to deploy rookie Trevor Rosenthal in a setup role. The end result was Mujica notching 37 saves for the Redbirds, though he wilted down the stretch and was a complete non-factor in the playoffs.

Today, the MLBPA announced, in a second press release, that Hall of Famer Dave Winfield has been hired as a special assistant to Clark.

With Tony Clark as the leader, and Winfield, that's 2 pretty tall guys to lead the player's union.

Here's the writer's ballot. Need to read the article for his reasoning. Looks good, but I'm not sure about Mussina at first glance. I would probably replace Mussina with Larry Walker or Jeff Kent. I guess I'm on board with Bonds and Clemens, but I know they will not be getting enough votes anytime soon.

I've written extensively before about why I believe Bonds is the best player of all time, but his Hall of Fame resume should require no more padding than the simple acknowledgment of his seven MVP awards, as well as his holding the all-time career records in both homeruns and walks. The reasons not to vote for Barry Bonds have little to nothing to do with what actually transpired on the field during his career, and we'll deal with those questions down near the end. As a player, Bonds is inner circle Hall of Fame all the way. Denying him entry on the first ballot is the absolute extent to which the writers should punish him.

The arguments I'm continually seeing on Morris are bordering on the silly.  Apparently, "most Game 1s started" is a great way of analyzing a pitcher's entire career.

Two things.  He was a cheater.  And thus should be punished.  He should be held out for as long as possible.  Make him wait 13 more years.  Second, once you let one known cheater in, you shouldn't consider other's cheating the same way anymore.  So let them stand on their own merits.  Don't keep out the likes of Sosa, McGwire, Palmeiro because they were cheaters and let Bonds, Clemens etc in.

Bonds was great, no doubt about it.

But so were those other guys.

On this list, I would only question Mussina.  Hall of very good at most...not HOF.   But I am sure that his inclusion has as much to do with what I like to call the "Yankee/Red Sox" effect.  what I mean is, he played for the Yankees so he got lots of extra media attention that pitchers with similar numbers playing in say...Kansas City would have gotten. 

All others, by their level of play and careers belong in the HOF imho.
