God I loved baseball in those days.
A lot different game.

Guys who were injured ... limped. Or threw slower.
They didn't go on three month hiatus.
Just a completely different world.

And today, we have learned that bilateral leg weakness is a debilitating condition baseball players simply cannot endure.

Tanakas first Yankee presser draws over 200 media types.

Oswalt hangs em up. That's too early IMO. Make some more money, dude.

Captain Jeter announces he will retire after 2014.
I will miss that dude.
Let the roasting begin .....

He's relieved he gets to spend the last year without ARod. And will get out in case he comes back.

Well with that in mind the guy could bat .168 and play shitty defense and some dumbshit writer will give him an MVP vote.

Hopefully the Twins' faithful will avoid booing him for once...

Jeter deserves accolades for a HOF career.  He shouldn't be booed.  But the love cast on him by writers sometimes makes me sick.

There were guys that suggested he win an MVP one year based more on his career to that point than the year he was having.  I think it was 2009.

They frequently state things like he "LED" the Yankees to all those WS titles.  I hate it when they do that.  He was part of the team.  The leader was the manager Joe Torre.  Jeter played SS and batted second.

Torre was the manager. A great one.
Jeter "led" the Yankees, and still does.

The Korean pitcher, Suk, is signing w/the Orioles.

There are plenty of other pitchers that will Suk in MN.

Twins are such Eastern Asian players

SI.com listed greatest moments for Jeter.

I had my #1 picked out before looking.

Spot on. The flip play is still one of the more amazing defensive, game changing plays I can remember.

By far his worst moment was when his ankle snapped. OUCH!

No roasting from this guy.  Jeter deserves to be in the HOF.  He is ten times the player Joe Mauer ever was or will be.  He plays the game with passion, something Mauer is totally unfamiliar.  First ballot HOF guy IMO.

I used to hate Jeter until a couple of years ago. I can't help but respect him. He WANTS the burden of being the go to guy in the clubhouse. He WANTS to play. He HAS TO win or everything else doesn't matter.

THis is because Mauer won't/can't work as hard. Mauer is fragile both in the mind and body. Jeter is the polar opposite of Mauer. You have to tear the jersey off him and literally drag him off the field.

And I don't want to hear crap about how Mauer isn't an explosive personality. He can still be quiet as a church mouse and lead. It's called LEADING BY EXAMPLE. In order to do it you need to be a rock. Mauer is more like vanilla pudding

Yup
I also loved the reckless fly into the third baseline seats, no teammate ever questioned his heart after that.
And he's hit some HUGE home runs, because he's never wilted in the big moments.
He's failed like everyone has, but he always WANTED the opportunity and usually embraced it.

Wonder where he goes in greatest SS of all time. Has to be top 10, easy. Top 5? Defense is the only thing that could possibly knock him down a few pegs.

I just found a website that ranks Biggio as the greatest 2B of all-time. I just can't see how you can argue he was better than Joe Morgan.

Edit: Sorry...misread it. Confusing. They showed Biggio's pic first, but actually rank him 9th. Joe Morgan is #2. Eddie Collins is #1.

We could start by yanking the guys who didn't play shortstop for the bulk of their career.

No, I'm counting Banks, A-Fraud and Yount.

A-Fraud especially, since he was the better man (imagine that!) and allowed the lesser SS at the time (Jeter) take the spot on the field that was rightfully A-Fraud's. Had to be hard to watch the Jetes try to play SS at a level so much lower than A-Fraud would have played it.
