Benches cleared in BOS game. They got pissed in a big inning when one of the Rays stole a base, up 5

Too bad. Get better pitching then.

I'm convinced the Twins will never change as long as Gardy and Rick Anderson are at the top.

Ditto the front office of Ryan and Antony.

Gullickson, born in Marshall MN

--------------------------------

More than a decade ago, a young Josh Beckett asked Marlins TV analyst Tommy Hutton to introduce him to Bill Gullickson. ...

"We've got something in common," Beckett said. "What's that?" Gullickson replied. They remain the highest-drafted high school RHPs.

And now, after Josh Beckett's no-hitter today, he and Bill Gullickson (1980 Expos) have something else in common.

A no-no

"There were some words exchanged," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "We're down five in the seventh, so it's somewhat a gray area when you shut down the running game."

"Yunel is going to do some things that might be a little unpredictable, so that's what precipitated it," said Farrell, who formerly managed Escobar in Toronto.

Farrell admitted that Boston's slide may have also "boiled over a little bit."

Escobar, Rodriguez and Boston's Jonny Gomes were all ejected.

Rays manager Joe Maddon didn't quite agree with Farrell's assessment of baseball's unwritten rules.

"Last year in the playoffs, they had a 8-2 lead in the eighth when (Jacoby) Ellsbury led off with a single and then stole second base," Maddon said, correctly recalling what happened in the division series opener. "I think that was a little more egregious than their interpretation of what happened today."

"Before you start screaming about any of that, just understand what happened just last year, and also understand in this ballpark, five-run leads can evaporate very quickly," he said.

Love what you get with Maddon.
No bullshit talk.
Just straight truth. And a long memory.
His teams do not get pushed around, by anyone. Won't allow it.

Not sure what to think about this ...
When ESPN inevitably gets MLB to agree to RE-DO the 2014 season on behalf of the Red Saaaaaaaawks, will that be a good or bad thing for us?

Agreed on Maddon. And I always hate that "unwritten rule" about basestealing. PLAY. ALL GAME. JUST PLAY.

I'd rather have a team kick my ass from the start to the finish than take pity on me. Make me want to beat your ass next time.

Had this thought while talking with someone about Buxton this week; players need to get back to more feet-first slides. Hands/wrists are just way too important for a lot of these guys in today's game.

yup, if it costs them being out 4 or 5 times out of 50 slides, big deal. that is just the price of doing business safely. not worth the risk long term.

feet first EVERY time. should be an organizational wide mantra from rookie ball up as soon as they enter the system.

The motorized scooter that San Francisco Giants right fielder Hunter Pence rides to home games has been stolen.

Pence says somebody stole the scooter outside a restaurant on San Francisco's Embarcadero on Sunday night. He rode a backup scooter he had to push the final few steps into the clubhouse to Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

Pence says he did not file a police report. He says he's willing to forgive the culprit, offering a signed bobblehead if the scooter is returned. Pence says the scooter is one of the few possessions he cares about, calling it "kind of an extension of me."

The scooter has fascinated fans since Pence arrived in a trade from Philadelphia in 2012. The Giants even gave out bobblehead dolls of Pence on the scooter earlier this season.

NEW YORK -- The Mets made a pair of dismissals Monday, firing hitting coach Dave Hudgens and releasing reliever Jose Valverde after a 5-3 defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Memorial Day.

Hudgens, a longtime colleague of general manager Sandy Alderson, was in his fourth season as hitting coach. He will be replaced by Lamar Johnson, who had been the organization's minor-league hitting coordinator for the past decade.

Johnson, 63, served as a major league hitting coach from 1995 through 2003 with the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals and Seattle Mariners. He had a nine-year career as a first baseman, primarily with the Chicago White Sox.

The Mets are 7-17 in May despite relatively solid starting pitching. The team is batting a collective .237 with a .309 on-base percentage this season. The Mets have failed to drive in a run in their last nine at-bats with the bases loaded. They grounded into five double plays in Game 1 of a doubleheader on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, matching the franchise record for a nine-inning game.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- George Springer has more home runs in the past four games than any Kansas City player does this season.

Springer homered in his fourth straight game and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and five runs scored in the Houston Astros' 9-2 victory over the Royals on Monday night.

"Springer was absolutely tremendous, just line drive after line drive," Astros manager Bo Porter said. "He was special. The two doubles and the home run, the great catch in right field and scoring from second base on a bloop single that not many guys would have been able to score on. He impacted the game in every phase tonight.

"This guy is a three-way player. He can impact the game when he's in the batter's box. He can impact the game on defense. He can impact the game on the basepaths. He brings it every day, is what I love about him."

The Astros have won three straight, matching their longest winning streak this season, and they snapped a six-game losing streak to the Royals.

Springer led off the eighth with a home run against Louis Coleman, his fifth homer in four games. The Royals' home run leader has four.

Springer is the first Houston rookie to homer in four straight games. Lance Berkman was the previous Astros player to do it, in July 2010.

"He's impressive," said Eric Hosmer, robbed by Springer of an extra-base hit with a superb catch to end the seventh inning. "He plays hard and doesn't get cheated at the plate. He drives the ball."

Springer also had two doubles and became the first Astros player to score five runs in a game since Cody Ransom on Sept. 24, 2007, against St. Louis. Springer extended his hitting streak to eight games, and is 8-for-16 with 11 RBIs and 10 runs in the past five.

It was a magical night for him.

"I guess," Springer said. "But at the same time, I'm just trying to help the team win and whatever way I can do it, I'm happy to help."

Scott Feldman (3-2) held the Royals to two runs and eight hits over six innings.

"I thought Scott did a tremendous job with his secondary stuff," Porter said. "His curveball had a really good bite and he did a good job for six strong innings."

Royals rookie starter Yordano Ventura was led off the field by a trainer in the third inning after experiencing discomfort in his elbow. The hard-throwing right-hander is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday.

"He was getting under pitches and his velocity dropped in the third inning," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "I came out and decided to check it. I talked to him in the second inning and he said, `Yeah, it's good.' I went out and he told me he was feeling a little something in the back of his elbow, but it's on the outside, not on the inside."

Ventura (2-5) went 2 2/3 innings, yielding five runs on seven hits and three walks before being replaced by Michael Mariot.

"In the third inning, I threw a few pitches and it started to feel a little weird," Ventura said. "I felt something unnatural. It was a little uncomfortable, unnatural, and I decided to say something."

The Astros had a season-high 16 hits, including a career-high four from Marwin Gonzalez, who had a double, an RBI and a run scored. Alex Presley added three hits and Dexter Fowler reached base five times with two hits and three walks.

The nine runs matched an Astros season high.

Lorenzo Cain had four hits, equaling his career high, and drove in a run for the Royals, who have lost five of seven.

Springer has his ups and downs like any rook...

And is manager keeps playing him. Why not? They're the 'stros

Dang, someday the Twins will get a high prospect to AAA, so we'll only be waiting a couple of years for the guy to get to the bigs.

Isn't that the Truth Ed.
Garza is the last "fast tracker" that I remember for the Twins, and he moved fast....too bad he and Gardy did not see "eye to eye", or he might still be a Twin!

WHY NOT?

Tis the question.
Agree completely. What are we protecting? The 95-loss seasons? Our pride? pfffft.
That's why I'm ok with this whole Hicks debacle.
Speed up the process. Lets see what he's got. Who cares if it costs us a game or two in the big picture?
At some point you have to allow young talent the games, to get their feet wet.
We aren't winning the WS this year. Get some of these try-outs out of the way, now.
A 30-something OF looking for a place to play? Who cares about them right now.

Twins continue to kid themselves they're contending with this staff.

The money they blew on Pelfrey/Nolasco(I thought he'd be somewhat better than this) and Correia could have been used to get better talent.

If they could actually judge talent. Which they're really proving they cannot.

I really don't remember the last positive trade made by the Twins....
Guess it would have to be with the Giants in getting Liriano, etal. for A.J. Pierzynski!
