ORIGINAL: John Childress Take the wrong over the counter medicine, get 4 games. Beat your woman unconscious and get just 2 games: QUOTE: The league's two-game suspension of Ravens star Ray Rice is a joke, and sends a terrible message that the NFL doesn't take domestic violence seriously, writes Jane McManus. http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commentary/article/11245489/espnw-baltimore-ravens-ray-rice-nfl-domestic-violence-problem Goodel doesn't make sense. A kid can't get his substance abuse under control he's suspended for a year. A star kills someone while drunk driving... A star gets implicated in a murder, pleads guilty to obstruction and gets... A star beats his soon to be wife in a casino and gets TWO GAMES? Seriously, The author is right...the NFL is not taking domestic violence seriously. I'm not saying Rice didn't deserve more, but has he been in trouble before? The NFL line of thinking as it relates to discipline may be somewhat soft, but I'm also sure its fueled by their negotiated contract with the NFLPA. They cant just arbitrarily decide to suspend a guy for 16 games for a first offense, at least without a buy-in from the union. So, I don't know if its the NFL doesn't take some crimes more serious over others more so than it is what agreements they have in place in regards to structure and progression of their discipline system that again, was negotiated in concert with the union. What does the latest NFLPA MOU say about first time offenses for criminal acts or convictions or whatever? And of those things, are certain crimes, like murder, weighted over others, like theft or battery? I'm just asking.
