I wouldn't be surprised to see the NFL get toasted legally on this, not sure what footing they have based on the CBA. Maybe the Players Union won't back Rice based on the likely backlash and PR nightmare.

I guess Roger Goodell also needs a visual aid before he can make judgment.

More like, he was hoping they could prevent the release of the video.

Goodell needs to resign

He is a hypocrite

There is no way they didn't see this video before!

Exactly. And, let's play the other side just to show how big of a liar he is. Lets say he "didn't" see this video. He saw the video of her getting dragged out of the elevator. Any decent human being would demand to see the footage from inside. He didn't ask for it? TMZ had no problem getting it. And, if his defense for that is that he didn't know there was footage inside:

1. he's lying again (which is the case. nobody is THAT stupid).
2. he's the worlds biggest idiot.

Exactly

Here is what Goodell did

Notice his statement:

"no one in our office has seen it until today.”

Think of how cleverly they worded that.

NO ONE IN OUR OFFICE

Surely someone employed by the NFL saw it but chose, on purpose, not to show it to Goodell for plausible deniability later - Watergate style

Goodell's hands are real dirty on this one

I know a lot of people don't care for Keith Olbermann, and he certainly has his own issues, but his commentary on the Rice brutal assault story is a good read.

I'm sure this sounds strange to most, but I see so many similarities between how the league handled this, and how the Ferguson Police responded to the murder of Michael Brown. Might, lies, bullshit, propaganda and save your ass.

After you exhaust all other options, only then shall you do the right thing.

Again, not surprised. League of Denial, the book and the film documentary didn't have an impact on the League's bottom line.
A multi-billion dollar organization that still enjoys tax-exempt status.

Hell, our very own owner has committed numerous criminal acts, for profit. For fukcing money. We help buy him a stadium. That'll teach him.

I know I'm a hypocrite. I love the Vikings. I love football. Don't like how any of it works. Like most things in a capitalist society, when profit is king, the consumer suffers.

Good stuff JT2

So now, today .... The all-powerful and all-knowing NFL .... Is claiming they weren't deceptive about the video, but instead, incompetent.
Yeah. Ok. Gotcha.
Never even thought to ask for it.
Uh-huh. Ok. Gotcha.
Nothing like treating your fans like they are morons.
Even so .. I still say ... What did they expect to see inside that elevator? He knocked her out. We knew that from Day One. There's no gentle way to do that.

Roger Goodell has no credibility left at this point:

QUOTE:

Sources connected with the Revel Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City tell TMZ Sports ... NO ONE from the NFL ever asked for the video inside the elevator ... video that was compelling enough to get Rice instantly fired.

Sources who worked at the casino at the time of the incident tell us ... if the NFL had asked for the video, they would have gladly complied. Former employees have told us someone with an affiliation to the NFL saw the video, but we are now certain that someone was not from Goodell's office or the core NFL executives.

Without video ... Goodell blindly justified the initial 2-game suspension, based on the only evidence they had -- from the two people in the elevator, who called it mutual combat.

Multiple sources tell TMZ Sports ... the casino made a copy of the elevator surveillance video for police. We're also told Rice's lawyer had a copy of the video, which he got in the criminal case.

The NFL has lawyers that review every official statement before it is made.

That's how you get statements like that.

Goodells face appeared to be on fire during the CBS interview.
Someone's feeling the heat.
Interviewer actually put his feet to the fire.
"We didn't know HOW she ended up unconscious"
Wow, that's really putting your head in the sand, isn't it?

Remember a year or so ago when Donovan McNabb took a lot of heat for saying RGIII needs to drop the TV stuff and focus on getting his career back on track? Well Donnie was right. RGIII looks terrible right now yet I still see him on every Subway ad.

Maybe she passed out
Maybe it was too hot in the elevator

Maybe someone else, really really small, was in the elevator and punched her

And the next question is - if she passed out from any of those random reasons (heat, over consumption) how can he be so callous as to just drag her limp body out of the elevator without any attempt to give her aid?

Clearly there is no "innocent" reason for her to be out cold like that and clearly Ray Rice showed absolutely zero compassion when dealing with her.

I would love to be in the room with her while she watches that footage and dare her to come up with some excuse for his behavior.

TMZ

The NFL NEVER contacted the casino to request video of Ray Rice brutalizing his fiancee ... TMZ Sports has learned. Commissioner Roger Goodell made his disciplinary decision in the dark, which raises the question ... Is that the way he wanted it?

An NFL source tells us they requested "any and all information" from law enforcement in the criminal case but got nothing because it was a pending case. But the NFL had other options ... namely going to the casino or Rice's lawyer -- but the NFL never bothered to ask.

BTW ... it may sound crazy for Rice's lawyer to voluntarily hand over the video, but the NFL had a lot of leverage ... in the form of severe penalties if Rice didn't ante up the tape.

So the question ... does the NFL have incompetent investigators, or was it just easier to protect a player and turn a blind eye to video that would have forced Goodell's hand? Both scenarios are pretty disgusting.

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.) says NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should “seriously” consider resigning because of the way the league handled penalizing former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice.
“I think he should consider it seriously,” Heitkamp said when asked by The Hill Tuesday if Goodell should step down.
Heitkamp’s remarks are among the strongest so far from lawmakers calling for Goodell to vacate his position over the league’s response to domestic violence charges against the star running back.
Rice was dropped by the Ravens and indefinitely suspended by the National Football League on Monday, after new video emerged on TMZ.com showing him punching his then-fiancee in an Atlantic City, N.J., elevator.
There was immediate outrage Monday once the graphic video surfaced. The NFL had indicated it had not viewed the footage before Monday.
An earlier video showed Rice dragging an unconscious Janay Rice, who is now married to the football player, from the elevator, but that only led to a two-game suspension for Rice, which was also derided by many as too weak a penalty earlier this year.
As questions continue to mount over the league’s handling of the incident, support also seems to be growing for former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to potentially take over as NFL commissioner.

Looks like Ray Rice is a bad guy.

People may want to keep in mind that it is TMZ running lead on this story. Swallow hook, line, and sinker at your your own peril.

Don't worry Condi Rice has enough on her plate helping run this country. Why would she even remotely consider the job. Even though she is a big football fan so maybe.

During Goodell’s tenure, there have been 56 domestic violence cases. The sum punishment? Suspensions from 13 games.
