I would have preferred 3 more years of wasting Erin's career but not bad.

I feel mixed on this. On the one hand, firing the GM and bringing in new coaches means the organization will be in flux for a couple of seasons.

On the other hand, keeping things the way they are also means the organization would be in flux because I think Ted Thompson is one of the big reasons they have never given Aaron Rodgers a lot of help.

Either way, I hope we see a stretch of 4 or 5 years until the Packers become relevant again. Oh heck, let's make it an even decade.

I’m seeing disarray
In a franchise that prides itself on staying the course
Unhappy times over there
Loving it
The quarterback whisperer isn’t going anywhere
That’ll cause a couple more years of angst as well

McCarthy was supposedly given a one year ext during this season but just announced. So he won't be a lame duck with 2 years on his deal.

However, what DC is going to want to go there when he won't have any kind of security let alone enough time to aquire the personnel in order to run his defense. Serious lack of talent on that side of the ball.

At the moment.

How many new GMs come in and keep the existing HC?

Marvin Lewis signs 2 year extension.

With Arians retired, C Palmer just retired.

Packers defensive coordinator would be a good DC position. You will look good if you can make the defense mediocre. A mediocre defense might even win the SB with Aaron Rodgers on the other side. Do that the first year, and then you are in line for a head coaching position the following year.

I was happy they were keeping Capers the past few years, figuring that is part of what was holding them back from getting another ring with Rodgers. Now we'll just have to hope they make a bad hire at DC, sort of like when they got Ray Rhodes at HC.

McCarthy is not a bad coach, he has won a SB. I was hoping they would over-react and fire him, and then find another Rhodes for HC for a few years. McCarthy stabilizes the position, and puts them one good DC hiring away from again being a SB winner.

Speculation is that Rodgers doesn't want McCarthy to leave, and that he has the sway to make it so.

I wonder if that will limit their choices for GM?

On the one hand, every GM would love to have a team built around Rodgers, but do they want to put up with him being a "LeBron-like" defacto GM?

And building around a QB that may have peaked (I know, we don't know that, but it's certainly possible given his age and recent injuries) isn't as grand as it would seem.

Any new GM knows that the current window for them is fairly short and they have to be thinking rebuilding or retooling.

Appears Sea denied GB an interview with Rob Schneider whom McCarthy wanted.

Looking more and more like McCarthy coached his last game in GB

I don't understand why. He changed his mind, he's allowed. Sure the main complaint is that other coaches had already quit their jobs to join him. I understand that, but isn't some of the blame on those coaches for jumping the gun a bit? If it's me, I wait until the deal is signed sealed and delivered, just to make sure my bases are covered.

I wonder if part of the deal is, he was guaranteed 'Head coach in waiting status' if he stayed at NE, ala a Mike Yeo in St. Louis situation. Belichick is 65. How many years does he want to continue?

Feels like at the last moment, Mr Kraft let McDaniels in on the "plan" that he and Belichek have laid out. It apparently includes a huge role for McDaniels. Soon.

Don't see this everyday...

Bills cornerback Vontae Davis was in the lineup at the start of today’s game. By the second half, he was no longer on the team.

At least, that’s the word from the Bills’ locker room, where veteran defender Lorenzo Alexander said he was told at the start of the second half that Vontae Davis had quit on the team, right then and there, and decided to retire.

Bills coach Sean McDermott declined to go into details about what happened with Davis but confirmed that he chose to stop playing.

“He pulled himself out of the game. He told us he was done,” McDermott said.

Davis wasn’t spotted anywhere on the field or on the sideline after halftime, but the team said there was no injury issue. It appears that Davis just decided he’d had enough and no longer wanted to play. Davis signed a one-year, $5 million contract with the Bills this offseason, but it sounds like he has no intention of honoring that contract.

Broncos Release QB Kelly

So now their options are Keenum and Lynch.

I hear Colin Kaepernick is available....

And Sam Bradford may be available sometime soon too.

and there's a decent QB backing up Drew Brees in New Orleans...perhaps a trade would be warranted.
