You realize that your views on baseball, stats, players, etc. are a lot closer to Gardy's and Terry Ryan's than mine, right Murf?

Wojo had actual hustle; not false hustle like Punto.

Not really...I embrace the modern stats, I just don't throw out the old ones like you do.

You guys are killing me. First Sweens compares the greatest coach of our time to Bo Ryan, the coach who's set basketball back to the 40's.

And then Wojo to Punto.

Wojo's in my top 5 favorite Duke players ever probably. No one did more with less. Worked his ass off to be what he was. Will be a great coach, IMO.

What are you talking about??? Bo Ryan set basketball back to the 40's??? Do you realize Wisconsin is 4th in the Big Ten in scoring (Minnesota is 12th). You must be thinking about Dick Bennett, not Bo Ryan. Jeez, are we going to have to start calling you CPAMAN?

This year, ya. But he's had some pretty low-scoring teams through the years.

Really. You can't fully embrace some of the new ones without essentially throwing some of the old ones out. I guarantee Gardy and Terry are both for Jack in the HOF, for example.

"We feel like he's got a lot left in the tank and can really mentor our kids. And we don't fully believe in the new "numbers" [metrics] on him....from 1993."

Wouldn't be ALL that different from the Torii signing, sadly.

That's because of Wisconsin's high academic standards.

That sound you hear is someone in the equipment room getting thrown under the bus & it will ruin his life.

@1500ESPNJudd
Tom Brady is the most uncomfortable quarterback at a podium since 2010 when Brett Favre fielded questions about his texting habits.

@PhilMackey
MLB grills PED users and looks the other way when pitchers use pine tar. NFL grills ball deflators and looks the other way on HGH. OK then.

Much ado about nothing. It's NO different than scuffing/heating/overinflating/buffing a ball, all of which have been shed light on in recent days. Excuse to hate on success.

ESPN panel before Brady consisting of Bettis and Brunell and another.......they passed around a football inflated to the pressure that the 11 balls were at........Brunell claimed it was much easier to grip and would be easier to throw, especially on a wet cold day. Bettis said it would be easier to hold the ball and avoid fumbles. From my unsuccessful time as a HS QB, I have to agree with Brunell. Brady said he prefers the ball inflated to 12.5 psi rather than the 10.5 that was measured.......Brunell said he would be able to throw a ball inflated at 10.5 10 yards further than a 12.5.

Here is what they said after listening to Brady's press conference

Mark Brunell: "I did not believe what Tom had to say. Those balls were deflated. Somebody had to do it. I don't believe there's an equipment manager in the NFL that would, on his own initiative, deflate a ball without the starting QB's approval ... That football is our livelihood. If you don't feel good about throwing that ball? Your success on the football field can suffer from that."

Jerome Bettis: "I'm so disappointed because I thought this was a perfect opportunity for Tom Brady to go and say 'You know what? I made a mistake. I blew it. It's on me. I'll take the blame here, and this will go away.' He didn't do that ... I'm disappointed in you Tom Brady.

Brian Dawkins: "This is unbelievable. For you not to know what you touch every play? ... The equipment manager is being thrown under the bus now. Now he's the guy. Now he's the one responsible. He took it upon himself to doctor up the balls when nobody else knew about it? That hard (to believe)."

Why is it that the Patriots are always at the center of these seemingly silly controversies?

Why do they always seem to push the envelop?

they should just come out and say they did it.

But the fear is Brady and/or Belichick would be suspended for a very important game in the near future.

It would IMO be overkill to suspend anyone for this shit...and we all know the NFL never goes overboard on suspensions...do they?

So what would the Pats have to fear?

A few have mentioned it, and I agree: I totally believe Bellichick that he doesn't care about the footballs and that's a Brady thing. I believe him because there's no way if he was a big part of it and they had some "scheme" or plan together that he would throw Brady, his QB that he is very close to, under the bus, and right before one of the biggest games of their careers. I totally, unequivocally believe him in what he said.

Brady, I don't know. It's tough to imagine he didn't notice anything different, but it also doesn't mean he was responsible.

And someone else brought up the point; they don't have to come out and say anything; they could have easily said "this is a league matter; no comment", etc.

I really think the NFL's going to have a tough time proving anything on this one. But the media and Patriots-haters are so starved for a punishment... Will be fascinating to see.

This whole thing is a complete joke and should just go away. It's as bad as the George Brett pine tar incident where that rule has nothing to do with the game. Let the QB set the ball up to fit his hand, after all, aren't they looking for offense? The scores says it all that they should just move on

Don't the balls change for each team?

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/22/brady-pushed-for-rule-to-let-visiting-team-provide-own-footballs/

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has long wanted control over the footballs he throws, to the point where he was the driving force behind a rules change that allowed visiting teams to provide their own footballs, rather than having both teams use footballs provided by the home team.

In 2006, Brady and Peyton Manning successfully lobbied the league to let every team provide its own footballs to use on offense. Prior to that, it was always the home team that supplied the footballs, which meant that road team quarterbacks didn’t get to try the footballs out until pregame warmups.

Brady said at the time that he appreciated the opportunity to address the league’s Competition Committee and get a rule change that he felt would be advantageous to himself and other quarterbacks.

“The thing is, every quarterback likes it a little bit different,” Brady told the Sun-Sentinel at the time. “Some like them blown up a little bit more, some like them a little more thin, some like them a little more new, some like them really broken in.”

Brady’s comments come into new focus this week as the NFL investigates whether the Patriots deflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game, in violation of NFL rules. After Patriots coach Bill Belichick said today that he knows nothing about how balls are prepared prior to games, increased attention has turned to whether Brady was behind deflating the footballs.

If this wasn't important, than why didn't the person in charge of the footballs for the Patriots properly inflate them?

Is that really such a difficult thing to achieve?

It as if this billion dollar operation know as the New England Patriots had Ed Grimley in charge of the footballs

Why, if it's such a big deal as a violation and advantage, is the rule for it's punishment only a $25K fine?

Again, I see zero difference between inflation level of the footballs vs. scuffing/buffing/marking/heating the balls. It's all the same thing; personal preference for a QB for grip and movement of the football.

It absolutely is a big deal.

The Colts play with their footballs on offense. The Pats play with their footballs on offense.

Footballs have to be with certain lbs psi limits.

Refs sign off on the balls before the game.

Pats balls found to be lower than lbs psi limits at halftime. Re –inflated to acceptable limit.

Colts footballs fine.

At end of the game 11 of 12 Patriot footballs found to be lower than the psi limit.

The Patriots are playing fast and loose with the rules for the footballs.

It is their culture of cheating.

Yes they would have beaten the Colts regardless of the footballs, not the point.
