SI.com

Mike Zimmer wants to run the ball and last year’s fired offensive coordinator, John DeFilippo, felt they couldn’t because of shoddy guards. Those guards, Mike Remmers and Tom Compton, are gone. But their replacements, Danny Isidora and Josh Kline, are not much better. Bradbury can take over one of their spots or play his college position at center, moving Pat Elflein to guard. However it shakes out, this is case of player and need meeting together perfectly. New offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski wants to employ an outside-zone scheme to fit Kirk Cousins, who is at his best throwing play-action off those outside zone looks. Bradbury is viewed unequivocally as the best outside zone blocking interior lineman in this draft.

GRADE: A+

Matt, SI likes the pick, so do I.

Ideally you draft a C in rounds 5, 6 or 7.

Since you're second guessing, who would you have chosen?

I agree that C is generally a lower valued position, but if this guy is special, enough he's a good pick. I admit I don't know a whole lot about him, but he was highly regarded by many.

He doesn't give a shit. He's just trolling.

I know you're fishing, but this is just so easy...

2019 Pro Bowl Centers:
Mike Pouncey: 1st round, 15th pick.
Maurkice Pouncey: 1st round, 18th pick.
Alex Mack: 1st round, 21st pick.
Max Unger: 2nd round, 49th pick.
Cody Whitehair: 2nd round, 56th pick.

2018 Pro Bowl Centers:
Maurkice Pouncey: 1st round, 18th pick.
Alex Mack: 1st round, 21st pick.
Travis Frederick: 1st round, 31st pick.
Rodney Hudson: 2nd round, 55th pick.

Just because we've lucked into some late round centers doesn't mean that's the norm.

Love the pick, btw. They like O'Neil and they're stuck with Reiff for now, so the interior OL was going to be the focus. Having a stud C makes a huuuuge difference.

DL/TE/WR come next I would think. They can wait on the K until first thing tomorrow.

Any early pick by the Vikings for an offensive lineman instead of a kicker is an improvement over previous years.

Youngest son had front row tickets at Friday nights Garth Brooks concert
Ran smack dab into Jason Zucker (for you Wild fans) and then into Kyle Rudolph
He's had a lot of celebrity interaction, said Rudolph was by far the coolest dude he's met so far.
Zucker agreed to a pic, then hurried off, towing Carly with him. Rudolph was in no hurry.
Big flat-brimmed cowboy hat, gave my son the bro hug, the high fives, the whole thing.
Talked with him for at least a couple minutes, never brushed him off, even when Brady said … "sorry we drafted a TE that high, man"
He just smiled and said "part of the job"
He's still talking about it days later. We get lucky here in Mn, we actually have some pretty decent humans playing sports for us.

Do we understand that the drafting of one Center will not instantaneously fix the offensive line?

It will go a long way towards it.

If he's really good it helps a lot.

Most likely Elf moves to G and the guy we picked up from the Titans is the other G and we have a serviceable line. I'd like to see a TE or WR in 2nd and a depth OL in 3rd or 4th with a DT in the other.

You got your TE and he's rated the 3rd best in the draft.

I don't think so. It improves one spot, maybe one and a half at most. But I do not disagree with the selection.

Compare it to signing a DH in baseball. It fills one slot of 9, not including the pitcher.

A new center in football doesn't change a whole helluva lot. It just doesn't. John Sulivan was a late-rounder for a reason. Most Centers are late-rounders for a reason. It's a plug-and-play position. Fact. Sorry for that fact, but it's a fact.

"Fact"

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would like to see you unexplain it.

inconceivable.

Preseason vs Cardinals

The line is being exposed as marginally better.

The guy they traded for isn't all that either at kicker. Only has longer kickoffs.

Cousins is still Cousins.

Enjoy.

They kicker they traded for is a definite improvement at punting and kickoffs. Definitely not a place kicker.

I'm getting sick of Allen, Bersich and Lieber circle the wagons around Manion and make every excuse in the world for him. Allen in particular, keeps saying, Sloter is putting up big numbers against second and third stringers. Who does he think Manion is playing against?

Nobody in sports carries more water for the franchise they work for than Paul Allen.

Sloter is Tommy Kramer or Brett Favre. When the light come on, he comes alive.

Sloter's preseason career:

95/120 (79%), 1059 yards, 10 TDs, 0 INTs.

Win a playoff game or Speilman and Zimm need to be canned.

Should be the #2 QB. There is no competition. Mannion is stiff and slow.

Ditto

Zimm could use an occasional thought outside the box. Thought we got rid of cookbook managers/coaches and front office people with Gardy and TR gone. They were reincarnated in Zimm.

I like the dog movies about reincarnation better than reincarnation of cookbook coaches.

Paul Allen sucks up as much as Lindsey Graham.

Wow. I guess apathy has finally set in on Vikings fans. The game that "should" set the tone for the season and people are so disinterested, or worse (pissed), and barely a mention. That was a f-ing disaster. We had about a whopping 100 yards in the first half from our starters and 85 came on 1 play.

Kicking game is nowhere closer to being solved and Zimmer's D looks pretty suspect again.

Oliver Luck calls it quits. Rehabbing a shoulder and ankle are too much.

Not surprisingly, a number of people are ripping him.

I know what Luck did goes against our ideas of what an athlete is supposed to do. I don't fault him one bit. He's young, rich and still reasonably healthy. He could stay in the game and get richer or he could call it quits and quit going through the torture.
What's wrong with him opting to leave with his health still somewhat intact and enjoy life?

ManOnion is a slug.

And if Cousins goes down this is the douchebag that Zimmer is going to entrust his offense and entire coaching career to.

I am starting to lose faith in Zimmer.
