I'm surprised the 49ers didn't trade up in round 1. They have 5 picks in the next two rounds. You'd think the Super Bowl runner-up would go for quality over quantity.

I'm OK with B-water at 32. As others noted, I love the fact that we got the the guy who was the presumptive best QB in the draft the moment the games stopped playing. I don't give a shit about his pro day, and if he can make good decisions in the face of a blitz, he's already a million times better than Ponder.

Don't particularly like the Barr pick. I would rather have stayed at 8 and grabbed Gilbert. Just hard for me to believe that a sweet corner isn't worth more than a push rushing LB who can't cover anyone and a fifth round pick.

I think it is a stretch to say he can't cover anyone. At UCLA he wasn't asked to, but with his athletic ability, past history as a FB, and the fact that he runs a 4.6 40, I think he can handle most TEs, and at 6'5" he can shut down passing lanes and chase down receivers. Just because we've never seen or have rarely seen a 6'5" inch true outside LB, doesn't mean it can't be done. In terms of rushing the passer, I think he has already proven that ability.

Agree, but giving up a first next year is a steep price to pay in my opinion, and they already have Stevie Johnson and Robert Woods, so I think another receiver probably wasn't their biggest need.

I'll confess, I don't have a ton of evidence for that claim -- other than I keep hearing "all he can do is rush."

Certainly can't argue that it appears he would have the speed and physical ability to handle the bulk of the TEs.

They don't have Stevie Johnson any more - traded to 49ers for a 2015 draft pick.

On Wednesday at Chimy's, Manziel made sure the memories weren't an afterthought, treating more than 100 revelers to a beer and a shot after he was chosen No. 22 by the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft.According to a Dallas Morning News report, Manziel bought everyone of drinking age in Chimy's -- about 122 people of 250 people in attendance, according to a bar employee -- a Miller Lite and a Fireball shot.
Chimy's general manager Petro Robledo told the newspaper he and Manziel are friends, and that the former Texas A&M Aggies quarterback had dropped by last week to make preparations for the surprise.
Manziel left his credit-card number at the bar, Robledo told the Morning News, with a goal of spending about $2,000 -- a nod to his No. 2 jersey.

Damn, we're gonna miss out on some fun stuff ........

One draft grade

Minnesota Vikings
On paper at least, the Vikings had one of the top drafts in 2014. UCLA’s Anthony Barr was a slight reach as a pass rusher under development, but the team really scored by trading back into the end of the first round and grabbing Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Their third-round picks — Oregon State defensive lineman Scott Crichton and Georgia Southern do-it-all back Jerick McKinnon — should provide valuable depth right away. And grabbing Stanford guard David Yankey in the fifth round could amount to highway robbery in a few years. An outstanding haul for first-year head coach Mike Zimmer and his staff.

Grade: A-plus

Couldn't have been much happier with this draft. Spielman is a stud.

I was pretty surprised about the 3rd rd; DE and a RB, but both have a chance to help, and both are still positions of need. And if Zimmer really likes a heavy rotation on the DL, I can't argue with that. It's his team and we may as well give him what he wants his first year to give him the best chance possible to fix our biggest issue, the defense.

I wanted Carr more going in, but I like the TB pick more and more the more I read and see. Ditto for Barr. If Zimmer is in love with him for his defense, who am I to argue?

Then we go and get a guy that should start for us at G in the 5th rd in Yankey? And a guy that may well start for us soon at S in the 6th rd in Exum? Color me impressed. Couple of good potential helpers in UDFA as well. Spielman worked his magic again. This team is going places, and very soon.

Seems like a stretch to me. I have no doubt they might try to rework his contract after this year, but if he's serviceable at all, it's hard to see them dumping him. Spielman is hardly sentimental, but AD is not a place kicker or a punter.

I think the chances are pretty good AD is a Viking for life at this point, actually.

1) He's still the best back in FB by a good margin.
2) RB's just don't get equal trade value these days.
3) There's a new stadium ready in 2 years and he's the face of the franchise.
4) AD is a huge weapon for a young franchise QB to have to take pressure off.
5) In a couple of years AD will be closing in on some various all-time records and the Vikings will want to benefit from the notoriety for that.

I just don't see him going anywhere any time soon.

Selling tickets isn't a problem. I think all the expensive seats are gone for the next few years anyways.

I hope AD stays here for awhile, but the Vikings absolutely need Bridgewater to be the face of the franchise if they want to be relevant.

This years schedule looks very tough on paper, I could easily see them starting 1-5 or 2-4. If that is the case I hope Bridgewater has shown enough in practice to be named the starter. I don't think W's are that important this year, the important thing is Bridgewater starts the last half of the season and shows he has the skills to become a franchise QB.

I think 2015-2016 is a very very critical year.

Manziel's popularity

The league wouldn’t say exactly how many Manziel jerseys were sold, but did say that the official website store sold nearly as many Manziel jerseys across draft weekend, from Thursday to Sunday, as they sold of Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck and Tim Tebow jerseys during their draft weekends combined.

Bridgewater was #4 in rookie jerseys sold over the weekend.

My problem is the Vikings are "hoping" their choice becomes the franchise face.
They're "hoping" people buy in.
They passed on a sure cash cow, a sure media driver, a sure attraction for interest and excitement.
Passed on it.
Had it in their grasp and passed.
That we know.

Thanks Fargo. Didn't know they had a live cam going. I've been excited about it for a while. I like the design; closest thing to it is probably Lucas Oil, which is an awesome stadium.

What sucks is it's probably going to pale in comparison to Atlanta's new football stadium, however. Oh well, sure beats the hell out of the Dome.
