Garza 0-2 on a 10-3 team.

I'll take him. 3.43 ERA / 7 innings per start / 17K in 21 IP. The Brewers got shut out in both of his losses, including a 1-0 game where Garza gave up the 1 run in 8 IP.

Agree. Garza is solid. Garza/Gibson/Meyer can be close to a good rotation. MUCH better than what we have now.

Sounds like the ace this team needed, unless Gibson keeps it up.

Is a .685 OPS considered good or about league average?  Hicks at .492 and Florimon at .469.

Depends on position. Probably acceptable for catcher or shortstop. But generally anything under .700 I would consider less than impressive, no matter the position.

Hmmm, that is what I thought.  Joe is at .685 OPS.  I know he is better than he has shown.  But I believe that ewen is correct that he is really out of shape and did not come to Spring training physically or mentally prepared to play baseball.  Maybe he is one of those players who cannot combine a personal family life with his baseball career.  All I know is that he is not good right now.

Hey, I am as down on him as anybody, but I saw him up close at ST this year and saying he is out of shape is pure bullshit. What ever else you want to say about him, the man was in great shape. I was only few feet away from him and he was very lean and solid.

The amount of angst Gomez would be causing ol Red Face by now would have been well worth keeping that young man.
Would be hilarious watching that unfold.
There was a little bit more action in that dust-up yesterday. Almost looked like a fight at times. Almost. Then they remembered they were baseball players, and it all chilled out.

Yeah, I pulled it out of the thin air
Has he not already set a precedent for this kind of thing, Sweens? He needed to "build strength" DURING the 2011 season. And, unlike you, I don't see a guy who looks solid at all. I see a guy who looks rather ordinary for an athlete. For an athlete his upper body looks pretty frail to me. I don't see how a guy can do meaningful strength training and look like Joe does. I also cannot see how a "lean and solid" "elite hitter" can be his size but barely be able square up a baseball and hit it solidly.

Once again, we agree to disagree...however, I won't call your opinion "pure bullshit" even though I don't agree with you

I am just telling you what I saw ewen. Sorry if it offends your sensibilities. Joe doesn't hit for power for 2 reasons. He lets the ball get too deep so he is always hitting off his back hip instead out front. That's why inside outs inside pitches. He also doesn't get his hips or legs into his swing at all. He is pure upper body rotation and nothing else. Just a simple turn at the waist. That to me is the big fraud in all of this is that Joe has this text book, poetic swing. He doesn't.

I don't disagree with your assessment on his swing. However, I think he has a frail upper body. That's just me. I have done a fair amount of working out in gyms over the last 30 years so I am not talking out of my ass. I have also been through several body transformations. I've been through periods where I have worked out with weights for months on end at least four or 5 days a week. And I have been through periods where I got several months with barely doing any kind of lifting at all. I can tell who does it and who doesn't rather easily. To me, Joe Mauer is NOT a "solid" looking guy. With regards to strength and physique he's a dime a dozen kind of guy, imo. His shoulders, chest, delts, lats and upper arms are pathetic looking for a guy who has MONTHS to build up strength. I find it somewhat offensive that he constantly comes to camp with no development in that area. Somehow you see things differently.

Sugar Land manager Gary Gaetti had some good news for Tracy McGrady fans. [Gaetti] told FOX 26 Sports on Wednesday [McGrady] has made his opening day roster as one of the team's pitchers. "Tracy is on the team," Gaetti said. "He's just done what needed to be done since the idea came about. He showed enough progress. He showed enough ability and we're going to see where this goes." In McGrady's first start during an exhibition game against Alvin Community College he worked one inning allowing one run on three hits. He threw 15 pitches, 9 for strikes, and did not walk anybody or get any strikeouts. "There's so many unique things about it," Gaetti said. "It doesn't matter how hard you throw. You got deception. You got velocity. You got location. You got stuff." Gaetti said he made his decision on Wednesday.

Brad Radke had a nice major league career, winning 148 games and making just short of $62 million according to Baseball Reference.

Still, it was a little bit of a shock to look at Busted Coverage today (full slide show of photos at that link) and see a report that Radke has -- and is trying to sell -- an 11,000 square foot mansion in Florida.

It honestly looks like the kind of house usually reserved for a guy like LeBron or A-Rod -- a mega-star who has made many hundreds of millions of dollars in a career.

The house was reportedly built in 2009 and has these features:

A finely appointed island kitchen with custom Olde World cabinetry and professional appliances combines with a generous butler’s pantry to provide for your every need. The spectacular great room features both fireplace and media sitting areas adjoining an open breakfast area. The floor plan includes a state of the art media room, game room with walk-in bar, exercise room, library and 500 bottle wine vault.

If you have $6.8 million lying around, make an offer!
