Twins outfield prospect Byron Buxton broke out of a 1-for-21 slump Saturday with three hits in a win for Double-A Chattanooga.
Buxton finished a home run shy of the cycle. The 2011 first-round pick has endured plenty of dry spells this year but has still managed to drive in 25 runs, tied for third-most in the Southern League. Buxton is also among the league leaders with ten steals on 11 attempts. Buxton's six total bases Saturday were his most since May 2. May 17 - 4:21 PM

Great to see from Stewart. Hopefully the shoulder doesn't continue to bug him. Ditto for Wheeler. Really good move to pick him up for free. I still don't see what Pinto has left to prove at AAA.

I missed a much better game last night for Chattanooga. This one was less so. Most of our guys didn't do much. Ump had a really large (and bad) strike zone both ways which helped Duffey but did not help our hitters. Gonzalez k'ed in the 9th on a terrible pitch and Allen lost it from the bench. Said some very, umm, not good things to the ump. Had to be fully restrained by Dougy and was tossed.

Boer was very unimpressive. Looking like a lost cause. Hittable, and averaged around 88-90 tonight according to the scouts around me. Duffey still doesn't impress me either, but he had a lot of k's tonight.

The one thing I can say for the hitters was Kepler was impressive tonight, and I continue to believe in him. Had 2 fantastic ab's to milk 2 walks and was 2 for 2 as well. Average is up to .325 and OPS above .800. And he's still 22.

Harrison and Walker both "just missed" on HR's. Sano hit a LOOOOOOONNNNGGG foul ball onto the freeway but struck out a couple times and had an error at 3b. Not a good night for Buxton either. Though it was clear Tampa's guys were not going to mess with his arm trying for 3rd a couple of times.

What a waste that was. Was bullpen ready at hi A/AA coming out of college. And the Twins pissed it away.

Of course it will continue to bug him. He will then compensate in his delivery and wind up blowing out his UCL. He's a Twins pitching prospect. Do you really see it going any other way.

I still don't see what Pinto has left to prove at AAA.

Are you blind? His pitch framing is so bad that the only way his pitcher can get a strike call is to throw it right down the middle. And don't even get me started on his calling a game. Pitchers cannot possibly pitch effectively if they have to shake off a sign. Alex Meyer is floundering with Pinto catching him. Coincidence? I think not.

Boer was very unimpressive. Looking like a lost cause. Hittable, and averaged around 88-90 tonight according to the scouts around me.

This one is baffling to me. Usually that strategy of drafting a reliever to try to turn him into a starter before giving up and moving back to the bullpen works really well.

The one thing I can say for the hitters was Kepler was impressive tonight, and I continue to believe in him. Had 2 fantastic ab's to milk 2 walks and was 2 for 2 as well. Average is up to .325 and OPS above .800. And he's still 22.

Kepler is still very much a prospect. I actually mean that one.

Harrison and Walker both "just missed" on HR's. Sano hit a LOOOOOOONNNNGGG foul ball onto the freeway but struck out a couple times and had an error at 3b. Not a good night for Buxton either.

BUSTS!!!

He got the single, double and triple, but couldn't even deliver the HR. My God, the disappointments continue to mount for this young man. BUST!!!

It's early, but starting to get excited about Kepler. He's got "tools"; always has. Very athletic guy. But now that's translating at the plate finally. OPS around .850-.860 now I believe.

Hope everything's alright with Berrios. Only 80 pitches today.

Really encouraging:

22 games

5BB(no great shakes) 9 K(very low for 86 at bats now)

Yep. I was very impressed with his approach yesterday. Both walks took a lot of skill and laying off/fouling off some tough pitches with a very wide strike zone.

You combine a good approach with his athleticism and you're going to get good results. Really good for a 22 year old in a tough league.

Well, Kapler's athleticism was certainly "enhanced". Always.

I think Kepler's is more natural.

I used to try to draw walks or get HBP every time up in summer rec league. Didn't take much skill. But that was the olden days.

I keep saying it, but IF Harrison/Kepler keep this up, this organization has some very, very tough decisions looming on the following guys re: trades. I just hope we make the right choices:

Hicks
Rosario
Kepler
Harrison
Sano
Vargas
Arcia
Plouffe
maybe Walker

for only 4 spots: LF, RF, DH, 3b

Buxton is a lock for CF and Mauer's not going anywhere at 1b.

The #MNTwins were one of the 17 teams in the Dominican late last week to scout 20-year-old Cuban FA CF Eddy Julio Martinez (and others).

Me?

I'm loving Dozier. He just wasn't relevant to this discussion. I don't see him being moved anywhere for the next 4 years either. One thing I do think we have to watch with Dozier is the age though. He's 28 (got a later start than most). Especially for a MI, he could easily have a Chase Utley-like cliff dive at around 32. So I might look to deal him late in that contract if Gordon or Polanco is fully ready.

With their lineup I don't understand how they have so many low scoring, low hit games.

Kerry, I found the new Jennie Finch and she pitches for Baylor. The results weren't there, but who cares?
