Will Ragatz (SI.com) described the incident in his daily camp notes: “Griffin jumped a route for an interception — though to be fair to Darnold, there were flags on the play that may have been on the defense — and then went down while running with the ball. He was evaluated by medical personnel on the sideline and didn’t return to practice, but it doesn’t appear to be anything serious. Griffin was seen walking fine under his own power after practice.”

It is unclear if the injury will force Griffin to miss a practice or two, but the fact that he doesn’t seem to have suffered any long-term injury is good news.

Purple Daily said that he was seen riding the cart to the medical facility. May be nothing but that doesn’t help me feel better.

J.J. McCarthy’s first throw of day 2 is a deep ball to Jalen Nailor for a touchdown down the left side. McCarthy was pumped

@alec_lewis
Heck of an over-the-top catch from Robert Tonyan from a bullet from J.J. McCarthy in 7 on 7.

@WillRagatz
Yeah McCarthy’s having a strong day today so far. Ripping the ball with velo into tight windows.

@alec_lewis
Oh my heavens. Sam Darnold does it again. A 40+ laser beam to Jordan Addison over the top. A beauty, frankly.

On Shaq Griffin: This is problem with the insta-news world we live in. Someone sees a guy go down and reports it immediately. In works its way through social media and the internet almost instantaneously and then eveyone assumes the worst. In days past, it may not have even gotten a report in the media.

I was starting to panic about CBs when that got reported because we've already lost two, one to untimely death and one to a season ending injury. We don't need to lose another.

Per various tweets it sounds like Darnold has been completing more passes to the defense than the offense since they put the pads on.

Purple Daily (who is watching camp and taking notes) say that his deep ball has been amazing but he is struggling with control on the intermediate routes of 15-20 across the middle.

My son drove up there yesterday. Thought that McCarthy looked better than Darnold that day. Both made some excellent passes and both had some duds.

The Minnesota Vikings are planning to sign free agent Fabian Moreau, according to a source, the fourth defensive back they have acquired in the past eight days as they have worked to maintain depth in the position group.

...the Vikings have signed veteran cornerbacks Duke Shelley, Cobi Francis and now Moreau. They also acquired veteran safety Bobby McCain. Shelley has worked with Byron Murphy Jr. and Akayleb Evans when the team has been in its nickel defense during practice.

Let's hope that Robert Tonyan's injury isn't grim because the FA market at TE is basically zilch.

I'm very psyched for having Jones on our team now. He's been kicking our asses for the last it is 7 or 8 years? Time for him to kick some Packer ass for us. The reports from everybody at camp is he is a man among boys and a born leader.

Reality is we are not looking at many wins this season. Fans will look at it different and shade it in the mind but I don't see us as having more than 5 wins 6 at most. The plus side is- We can see if the rookie QB has what it takes, thank goodness we have our #1 for next year in the draft it could be huge for rebuilding, and we will have cap space to fill holes on the roster, we have a solid base of difference makers in the tier two of important positions. This is a transition year, and we are going to lose a lot. That may sound negative but it's not, I think longer than one season and I'm excited about the future.

Everyone is writing us off. And though we have flaws...every team does.

The real problem here is how is the QB going to play? Which one? Everyone assumes that since we've dumped Cousins we are just going to suck. Now I don't have a lot of faith in Darnold...but he's never had a receiving corps like this one. McCarthy is a rookie so there will be growing pains if he plays. But we have a lot of weapons there.

But an aggressive attacking defense. Sure we lost Danielle Hunter, but I think the addtions of Van Ginkel, Greenard and the Rookie will make up for that.

There's a lot of question marks here.

The purple shade wearing hopeful fan in me sees us shocking the NFL world and winning a whole lot more than people expect

The 40+ year cynical fan in me says we're losing a lot more than winning.

More likely we eke out enough wins to make the playoffs then get drummed out first round.

either way, it's going to be a fun ride and I am going to enjoy it.

Maybe I'm wrong, ten wins would be outstanding. With a rookie QB and a never has been veteran, I see an increase in picks. A defenses sub par performance from added time on the field. Also our CB situation does not seem strong.

10 is pushing it for me but:

If we stay healthy (especially at CB)
Darnold/JJ give us decent QB play (doesn't need to be great)
We aren't a TO machine again
Big leg Will doesn't go in to a rookie funk

We should be, at least, dancing with 500-ish ball. Losing Hunter doesn't scare me. I think they did a great job of patching that back up. The interior though . I see a lot of 2nd and 2, 3rd and 1 type scenarios all year long. That could kill us.

I see 6-8 wins. And a 3rd or 4th place finish.

But I think we’ll be trending upwards, so I’m ok with that.

I'm slightly below that. 5 or 6 wins and fourth in our division is very possible in my mind.

Unless QB, IOL, CB miraculously defy normal expectation. Which could happen ... although it would be blind luck – we have not put ourselves in a position to significantly improve in those areas this year.

I would also have to see the FA personnel decisions on defense translate to real potency. And not just rely on Flores' smoke and mirrors ... which other teams started to catch up with. Since free agents often don't just step into new teams and pick up where they left off - immediate impact will also take a bit of luck.

Which is okay. Sacrifices had to be made. Things are finally getting squared away.

We are finally making headway at the positions we need to sustain competitiveness, QB,[LT], Edge, [WR1] ... I presume CB will get a lot of attention next offseason including with our one good draft pick (if Kevin doesn't slake his insatiable thirst on TE). The young talent at critical positions has improved dramatically. Its not automatic but at least we are giving ourselves a real good chance.

Based on this solid offseason - much much better than I anticipated (besides the truly awful loss of Khyree obviously) and a better cap situation next offseason, I could see us being very aggressive in free agency, shoring up areas, and making a competitive leap in 2025.

As far as 2024, I'll be happy and encouraged if there's real improvement ... compared to the steady in-season non-improvement of the last two years.

6-11. No angst about that.

2nd toughest schedule in the league. That doesn't hold year-to-year but it is likely to still trend tough.
IOL, no changes. Huge for two questionable QBs.
CB. Blackmon was no world beater but he had promise. The rest are low budget FA fill-ins, holdovers, and an average Murphy.
DL. Doesn't exist.

The O will be wacky entertaining yet frustrating. Turner needs to be a Will Anderson Jr. clone and Greenard has to put it together, otherwise the D will get shredded.

Obviously.

And obviously most of us will think something bad will happen regardless of how good the team is before we win a SB. But thinking we're only going to win 5 games isn't what this team does ... much
