The Falcons drafted Michael Penix because they signed Kirk Cousins; it’s all so clear now. Like all Black Friday purchases, this product is nonrefundable, and the Falcons are going to have to find a way to make this thing work for the rest of the season. You can’t rationalize four interceptions, missed touchdowns, and Desmond Ridder-level quarterback play.

Zac Robinson is calling everything he can think of to get his quarterback going, but Cousins is failing to execute the offense, and his arm looks zapped. Cousins has been given a vote of confidence by the staff, but the quarterback’s statistics are being propped up by two games against a bad Tampa Bay defense. There have been sustained flashes of above-average play, but the quarterback has been in a rut for three games now. Shield your eyes as Cousins gets ready to take on the evil genius known as Brian Flores.

The Falcons have lost three in a row, and their quarterback is starting to flounder. If Cousins can’t turn his play around soon, Raheem Morris will have a tough decision on his hands as soon as Week 15.

Remove the two Tampa games and Kirk’s stat line looks like: 2,267 yards 9 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 10 games.

To me, the problem is Kirk. Sure having a new OC that is still (trying) to learn the ropes of the NFL is a part of the recent offensive slide, but something is not right with KC. Last season, shortened as it was, he was a man on fire, putting up big numbers and looking to have a career best season. This year he's had flashes, but more often than not and especially of late, he looks to be physically and mentally "less."

Physically he seems to not be able to drive through his passes, and they often seem weak and slightly off target. He's thrown a few dimes, but a lot more nickels and pennies. I'm sure it's the ankle, either still not fully healed or maybe the best it's going to ever be. Whatever the case, he seems physically less than he was in the past.

Mentally he seems to not be processing well, not looking off the cover guys, locking his eyes on one target and doing nothing to slow the D. He is making just plain dumb throws, stuff you'd scream at a rookie about making, trying to force tight windows when his passes lack the zip to get to the receiver and not into the hands of the defender. He threw 5 INTs on Sunday, and I saw at least one, possibly two throws that could have been picked except our receiver did his job to play D on the ball. Inexcusable.

When rookie CBs say how they are reading his eyes and jumping his passes, something is wrong. Really wrong. With the mental lapses (frequent it seems) and the physical decline, I don't see this getting better with Kirk. Sadly, I think he is on the downward slide we all face with age.

I know he'll be starting Sunday, I get that, but if he has another game like the LAC game, I think a change is needed. Penix may not be the answer now, or maybe ever, but until we know we won't know. You know.

If Ricky was still alive would KC still be his guy?

*I don’t actually know what happened to Ricky but he went from on here daily to nothing.

Sam doesn’t get the credit he deserves. I’ve been pretty tough on him.

Limit the mistakes and I’m ready to ride with him.

What we need for a good run though is for Jones to catch fire.

What we need is for Jones to quit coughing up the football.

Whoa dude!!

For those of us who read sentences from left to right, that is a not a good look... to put it mildly. I know there was no intent, and even though people/I read by scanning those words jumping out were greater than my normal scan.

Son of a bitch I just looked at my inbox and saw a "How are you doing" DM from Ricky from September. I just replied to it now. I probably look like I'm holding a grudge and/or was being a dick. I hope he responds to my reply.

Did he tell you that via pm?

Cause I don’t remember anything and nothing in his last 10 posts indicate anything.

To be gone over 2 months in a good year like this…

I’ve contacted Ricky.

He’s been busy with astronaut training. Gonna be on the 1st mission to Mars. He’s asked that we all wish him luck.

Or he’s in fact taking a break as Phil suggested.

I'm fascinated with Brian Flores. He has turned Minnesota's defense into a force, his players support him and he has taken steps behind the scenes so that he's ready for his second chance (the NFL was very impressed in Flores' leadership in helping younger coaches during last offseason's accelerator program, for example). But his discrimination lawsuit against the NFL can't exactly be dropped as far as I know (he's not the only plaintiff on the class-action suit). And whether fair or not, Tua Tagovailoa's bashing of Flores is still fresh in peoples' minds. What's the best fit for him, Dan?

Graziano: It's tough to say with Flores, because of that lawsuit. I know the Giants liked him a lot when they hired Brian Daboll three years ago, but the extent to which the Giants' process was implicated in the lawsuit rubbed that organization the wrong way, so I wonder whether those fences could be mended.

Would the Jets take a look at Flores, since a stronger hand might appeal to ownership? Would he appeal to the Bears, who'd be weakening a division rival if he could sell them on his ability to bring in the right offensive coordinator for Williams? I think Flores is a good and interesting candidate on several levels, but you're right. The questions surrounding him are very specific and could be tough obstacles for him to overcome in this cycle.

He should be unselfish and see this through for a few more years or until we win a SB.

I think the Bears will go with an offensive head coach to help Williams.

More than likely, the Vikings have Flores for a couple of more years.

Bears will likely hire either Ben Johnson or Kliff Kingsbury. But they definitely won;t be the only team looking for a new HC this offseason.

Vikings, Lions, and Packer organizations need to pool together a little financial incentive packet to help any organization that isn't the Bears hire Ben Johnson.

As far as who to root for tonight, it's not even close. GB. Do you want Det to have an easier path through the playoffs and maybe a SB win? One less team from the 'never won a SB' list? Defeatist in a way but how far do you want to go with that.

and who made up this so-called rivalry? From GB's perspective, it's Chi.

Det up 7-0 and getting the ball.

Stupid Green Bay.

Can’t hope for another team to do your job for you. We had our opportunity against Detroit but couldn’t get a 1st down.

So I expect the Bills to do us a solid. Inadvertently write the script that has us meet in the SB.

Going into the playoffs as the best 5 seed ever doesn’t do much for me.

Our 5 game win streak is not the most impressive feat. We have played a lot of bad teams and barely squeaked by all of them.

DET keeps winning despite having the most injuries in the league.

I still think we can find another gear on offense. Defense is playing at about their optimum level considering some of our average players.

Campbell will cost DET a game somewhere down the line. His coordinators bail him out quite a bit.

Campbell going for it on fourth and 2 was how you win superbowls.

That’s what winners do.

Maybe not the most impressive streak but the vibes we’re rolling forward with exist regardless of how it looks on paper.

Let’s see where we stand 5 weeks from now after finding a balanced attack with no self inflicted wounds.

Getting stuffed on your own 30 and giving a short field to Packers wins SB.

Name me a SB winning coach who consistently goes for 4th downs on their own side of the field.

My thoughts exactly.

Giving the other team points like in the playoffs could be interesting...

To illustrate your points. I read that the 3 teams that have gone for it on 4th the least over the past 5 years are the Chiefs, Bills and 9ers.

I applaud Campbell for knowing his team but that might come to bite him in the ass in the playoffs.
