BTW, the call for roughing the passer on the Giants was an awful call. Lets not forget that break.

It was a hand to the helmet before the throw down that I believe caused it.

meh...hyperbole...

it wasnt awful, it wasnt great....questionable at best

It was an attempted tackle. That's it. There was nothing malicious about it whatsoever. It wasn't late. Cousins wasn't defenseless. It wasn't to the head.

It was too a blow to the head. His arm came down and clubbed Cousins on the face mask before he tackled him. It wasn't intentional or malicious, but it's going to get called almost every time.

The two biggest influencers of the game outside of our horrid defense of course were IMO:

The JJeff pass to Kirk on 3rd and short.
Irv drop pass.

The Giants had the ball for over 33.5 minutes. The defense was the difference.

You sustain those two drives and the TOP is really close.

The same could be said for the Slayton drop for New York. Those are individual plays. It happens in any game.

I really don't understand why teams just didn't run that route every time against us. Guys open by miles every time.

They pretty much did, yesterday. We turned a mediocre offense into an offense that had 33.5 time-of-possession with 28 first downs and 431 yards.

No doubt. When it was win or go home time the Giants used it all day. What a miracle that this team won 13 games.

The one word that sums the season for me is “mystifying”. I have no idea how we ended up with our record with such a terrible defense. And being ranked 31 of 32 is really terrible. The sad part of it is we will have to scrap and rebuild that side of the ball from the top down. With little money and not many picks, that process is going to take a while.

Exactly why I'm not envisioning Jefferson staying. It won't break my heart as I don't put stock in players as much anymore. Ever since the Moss trade I know they're just pieces to move around.

I didn’t want to say it like that, Rich, but that thought should be at least discussed. Nothing should be off the table to this point.

I'd love to keep him of course. I just don't know if it's going to work out that way. He may not want to he involved in a multiple year rebuild. The team may trade him for a huge amount of picks. Who knows.

If we had a couple of extra first rounders, had several backups projecting to be solid starters, had a QBOTF on a low initial contract, etc. then I'd slant to wanting to keep him. But with bare cupboards to basically replace the entire D, the entire IOL, and soon the QB position, they should definitely look at options to trade Jefferson.

He is our single most valuable asset and he is not going to lead us to a SB anytime in the foreseeable future. Maybe he will help as he approaches 30 while looking for his next contract after the upcoming one, but not soon. Like Calvin Johnson and many others, his prime years will be wasted.

He is 23...you blow up the defense. The offense alone got us to 13 wins and with a tougher schedule is an 8-11 team next year.

You have a generational talent in him and TJ. They are 23 and 25.

Brad H -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/16/2023 9:27:03 AM)

I for one am very leery of giving O'Connell some big deal after one season of success. He shouldn't be praised for the offense, and yet get away with that bad of a defense. He's as much to blame as anyone. There is times when your offense has to eat clock in order to win. When you face good teams, you need to be able to win a chess game. I saw one great win against the Bills. Outside of that, we beat teams we should have beaten, with a ton of second string quarterbacks and whatnot.

The Vikings showed a crazy knack to win close games, which is a great quality. I wouldn't count on that every season.

It really doesn't matter what you want though. He may not want to go through another year with Dumbass and then start the looking for another qb. The team may get a huge trade offer. This team needs so many pieces. We have 4 draft picks this year and maybe 1 pans out. If they keep him great. If they don't oh well. It's not like he was killing it in the biggest games if we're being honest.

Take a knee in 98, 41 doughnut, 12 men on the field, choke after the miracle and now short of the sticks to end the season - sigh

Courtney Cronin showed the play...there wasn't anyone open and a DLineman breaking in on Kirk....KJ was open a second later but it was very good coverage.

They play call should have been reversed (Play calls on 3rd and 4th down) and it probably would have worked. They went with a 15 yard route to KJ when they only need 8.

Did the bills have good coverage on the JJ catch? Sometimes you have to throw it up and hope for a play. Throwing for 3 when you needed 8 is dumb.

Yes but that was a miracle play and he had more time. Your are assuming the protection was there; it wasn't.

You at least TRY.

I think so, too! If you throw the check-down are the percentages you extend the season better than if you "try?"

Seeing as everyone knew there was no way Hock was getting the first when that pass was thrown I would say much better if you try.

Arguing a call that is maybe questionable going in favor of the Vikings? ha ha. Are you paying attention to the scrutiny involving officiating this year? Might be the worst year of officiating ever.

Damn it, the F'ers helped out the Vikes, too!

Murph -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/16/2023 9:39:04 AM)

I'm so jealous of the Bears.

They did exactly what I wanted the Vikings to do this year.

They hired the GM I was hoping for, Poles, with a football background not a Wall street analytics suit. Kwesi's #1 job is talent acquisition, he brought in Hockensen mid season and got lucky getting Z. Smith on a cheap contract, that's about it other than overpaying long in the tooth vets. Oh and a punter

They realized they were more than a year away and traded some of their valuable soon to be overpaid assets for future draft picks while resting nicked up starters getting younger players experience. All of this helping to get the #1 draft slot in each round plus extra picks from trades and with a young QB and they have boatload of cap space.

Their biggest problem is what to do with the number 1 overall? Keep Fields and trade down and get a ton more picks or trade Fields and draft the highest rated QB in a strong class.

I think they are going to be the team to beat in the North for a while. Hope I'm wrong.

No it wasnt Brad. They enforced the rule as its written. QB takes a forearm to the head, they throw the flag almost every time. It doesn't matter whether it was intentional. If you don't like it take it up with the rules committee.

You're probably right. The official should have mentioned the blow to the head. That's why I figured they threw the flag for "throwing him down"

Nonsense. It's arbitrary. I saw 15 hits this weekend on quarterbacks that were far more egregious that weren't called. Heck, there was a late hit on Cousins that was way worse earlier in the game where his head pounded on the field after being pushed over backwards after a throw. I would have called that one way before the one that was called.

If you hit the QB in the helmet it's a 50/50 call... intent and ridiculous "forced the contant" don't matter.
it wasn't a great call
most of the roughing the qb calls these days suck
it was hardly egregious
it's a common call

Daniel Lee Young -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/16/2023 9:52:11 AM)

I’ve been done with KC as our “franchise” QB ever since the ridiculous contract extension he was given, and Steffon Diggs noped the **** out of Minnesota.

He is what he is..

Overachieving , stat driven, no clutch in pressure situations, front running, pseudo “leader” of an offense with an enormous amount of talent, but no killer instinct or ability to wave off or check out of an obviously idiotic playcall for a given sitioation.

KOC shares some blame for calling idiotic plays such as that third and 1 throwback Qb naked screen bullshit.

Ultimately the guy taking the snap is fully responsible for making the right reads and throws or changing calls as the situation demands.

Bottom line KC is not horrible, but he is pathetic, and

FIRE DONATELLO IMMEDIATELY.

We turned a mediocre offense into an offense that had 33.5 time-of-possession with 28 first downs and 431 yards.

crossers and a mobile qb...exploit slow LBers

our only fast LB was out with concussion

game over...

28 FDs and 431 yrds that looked easy with a very mediocre offense
