Yep. Just throw it up to JJ. You did it in Buffalo.

And yes, you were just about to get creamed. Again. But, give JJ, Thielen or KJ a chance.

You guys are only looking at one aspect of the money. There is also jersey sales. The teams get a set amount of money from licensed NFL gear from the league, but gets close to 50% of retail sales (non-NFL licensed) at games. In other words, they don't want the fans to purchase NFL licensed gear.

Look at the images of Vikings fans this season. (Google it). How many Kirk Cousins jerseys do you see? I'm still looking for my first.

The regime will be thinking strategically with the cap.

JJ will be a fortune. O'Neill's contract is going to kick in. After they sort out more mess next season, Darrisaw will enter his 4th year. He is trending towards a mammoth contract especially as he plays at a premium position.

The QBOTF will almost have to be via the draft.

If they dump massive amounts of cap into void years, I'd say that's an early indicator the Wilfs are preparing to sell the team.

Has there been some talk about them selling?

Why would there be? My statement is based on an if and an early indicator in relation to the regime looking at the cap strategically, i.e. several years down the road.

I thought there was something I missed.

Money is money. Football is a business. Part of the reason they pay Cousins is to make money.

Kurt Warner breaks down the play. He says that once TJ chips the blocker that instantly invalidates him as a viable target. Says was correct to look at JJ first. Once the double coverage is identified the next read was to the left side. Should have seen KJ coming open over the middle. Should never have considered TJ as an option.

I will add my own two cents to his breakdown. For the love of god Kirk move your feet a little. Sweet jesus you are a statue!

ronhextall -> RE: General Vikes Talk (1/17/2023 9:36:50 AM)

Which teams do you think are satisfied at QB for the next 5 years and where were those QB's drafted?

KC
Buffalo
Cinncy
San Diego
Jacksonville

They were all drafted damn high. The rest of the league is looking or at the very least would pick up the phone.

It's Kwesi's career on the line, not mine, we all just sit back and watch.

I guess it probably helps with paying signing bonuses.

I'm all in on getting QBOTF. Cutting Cousins does nothing to help that.

You can include NYG 1st rounder also but looking at Dak 3rd round and SF 7th. So 2 out of the 8 didn't draft their QB in the first round.

I suggest we try unconventional first; 2024 we may have the capital to go high on QB. Don't think we can get there in 2023 but who knows.

So much for a miracle run through the playoffs. It made so little sense that I thought it actually WOULD happen just because that would have been a very Viking thing to have happen. It was a fun season though.

My wish-list going forward is simple. Let Kirk play out his last year and draft prospects for his replacement both this spring and next. He's $36,250,000 against the cap in 2023, $12,500,000 in 2024, and $6,250,000 in 2025. Yes, he only plays in 2023. The other two are void years. THAT'S TOO MUCH OF THE CAP!!! We're married to him for 2023 - fine. Please please please let's not double down one more time and throw an even bigger contract at him. This marriage is toxic and it needs to end. Don't throw cherry-picked stats at me to try and show that he's somehow a top-10 QB when he's clearly an 11-15. He's always been and always will be.

I'd rather start the quest to find a true top-10 QB that we can have on a rookie contract and use the additional cap space to get the O-line and defense correct.

Another great summary... for the Cousins 'issue'.

Jones ? Darn average besides ripping the Vikings twice. He isn't proven anything. 9 wins and they are set for the next 5? Cousins wins 13 and some want to release him and tank.

Dak is a turn over machine.

Purdy, he craps out they might flip to Brady next year, he is far from a stone cold lock for 5 years and Shanahan gets the bulk of the credit IMO.

You better be dang sure that Young or Stroud will be great if you want to dump JJ.

They each play with 2 or 3 NFL ready WRs every year. I don't think they are a sure thing.

Agreed, Kwesi is swimming in the deep end of the pool when you go to a team with QB issues. Alabama and Ohio St. QB's are accustomed to having the best talent compared to the opponents in almost every game. That doesn't happen in the NFL.

Jones looks average in New England and Fields is "one read and run like hell", eventually that gets you killed.

1) SD is out of the playoffs.

2) Jones has been good this year w/o a clear #1 WR.

First rounders: NYG, KC, Buffalo, Cinn, Jax.
Second rounders: Philly
Third Rounders: Dallas
7th: SF

You don't have to go all in on a qb.

I will add that if the team drafts a QB - let's say - 2nd round in 2023 and 1st round in 2024 - and neither of them turn out to be the homerun we were hoping for - there's still a chance that one of them ends up being 'serviceable'. That means we at least have a QB that can function while we continue the search. All the while - we can be putting excellence at the other 21 spots on the field (or trying to anyway).

Glad to view analysis of that play by someone who knows the game well.

Cleveland, who sucks, was an enabler but it looked like Cousins was locked in to the right side options all along.

Dak did nothing in the post season when he was a small % of the cap. He is no better than Cousins until he proves otherwise.

Has Hurts done anything? His durability is an issue.

Nobody dissatisfied with Cousins should be envious of Philly Dallas NE situations.

Only QB situations I am jealous of are the top shelf high end guys that pass well from the pocket and can run with they have to. They were all drafted high.

The No. 1 option is to trade him to a place he will agree upon. Option No. 2 should be to restructure, with no future years. Option No. 3 is to eat it for one more year.

We may very well end up with option No. 3, but there is to hurt in trying options No. 1 and No. 2. If you aren't trying, you aren't much of a GM.

Either way, we need to address the quarterback of the future at some point as well.

Feels like in my lifetime as a Viking fan we set more of these kind of records than anybody else, but i could be wrong

[I]OptaSTATS
@OptaSTATS
The Vikings are the only team in the Super Bowl era to complete at least 80.0% of their passes with no turnovers and no sacks allowed and still lose (regular season or postseason).

NFL teams had been 47-0 in the Super Bowl era when doing all of that in a game before yesterday
