Another RB to form some catchy named duo (originally coined by the Saints with Chuck Muncie and Tony Galbreath) is around 10th on the needs list.

Since this is the modern NFL, imagine cap instead being poured into the CB position. No catchy name needed.

But first things first for next year. SHED $36 million in cap by day one of the NFL season to comply with NFL rules.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (11/4/2025 11:16:04 PM)

I guess if RB Zavier Scott produces the lightening instead of the lightning to Mason's thunder, and there isn't any money available, the Vikings could always draft in 2026 the injured stud defensive back Xavier Scott from the University of Illinois.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (11/5/2025 7:50:47 AM)

Yes, because we can pick whoever we want.

I have no idea where you are going but if you have 2 backs that you deem capable and explosive plus a third that looks to be decent why trade for a 4th that makes 1st round money when you have over 15 million tied into the position?

Brady vs Brad. Tough call. One is the GOAT and one has begged the board to say he's right and then he'll stop.

Phil, I was saying we would go with Hall and Mason next year, let Jones go, have 2 RBs near to each other in age. I don't think much of Scott.

From what I saw and the way the team is setup they weren't trading away any top 3 draft picks except for CB help and it ended up real expensive. Maybe it will happen in the offseason but I doubt it.....Jones and Mason cost very little in picks to acquire.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (11/5/2025 10:21:44 AM)

If it was only a 3rd rounder, I would have gone with the younger Hall, to pair with Mason for the next few years.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (11/5/2025 10:26:54 AM)

Brad, I haven't seen the game yet, but from what I have heard so far, you already wrong about McCarthy, he is a capable starter, and he's probably here to stay.

There is no QB controversy in Minnesota, but whenever I have seen one, deciding which QB should start in the playoffs, I side with the QB that has beat a playoff team on the road in the regular season, unless they both accomplished that.

Detroit should be a playoff team this year, and it was a great accomplishment to beat them in their home.

These two statements are not co dependent.

Tom Brady, who knows a bit more about Quarterbacking success was impressed with JJ McCarthy and how he handled the game. That is positive.

The current rankings are not tied to a HOF QBs well educated opinion.

+1
Also what are their teams current records?
A high QB rating doesn't equal a Super Bowl. Actually Lamar, Dak, and Mahomes teams aren't doing all that well so it doesn't even signify a 13-4 record is coming.

All it signifies is now Brad's fourth favorite team is most likely the Vikings after USC, TB, and Seattle. I doubt he gives any credit to JSN and loved Darnold throwing passes to Addison.

Of course. You would have gone with it against any common sense or any of the sound arguments that other posters have used to eviscerate your position.

The possibility probably never existed to begin with. And if it did, there is no way of knowing the parameters of a possible deal. So you’ve spent days arguing a fantasy that only you care about, that is neither here nor there.

You and Brad are a lot alike in that respect.

I suspect you'll get a full rundown and rehash of the entire matter, from inception out of the brain womb to the latest variation about what's in store for the future.

Tom, I have made several valid points in regards to Breece Hall, your judgement of what is common sense notwithstanding, or any sort of imaginary evisceration that came from your inside your head.

You can spend days trying to cheapen my valid point, but you won't come close to being the a$$hole that is Bill, but you do show similarities to Bill in having a small mind that lacks imagination.

You and Bill are similar in that respect. [&:]

Very valid until it came to cost as in cap $$$ and draft picks.

More valid is the Vikings interest in Asante Samuel:
Sources: The #Packers and #Vikings are also scheduled to have visits with CB Asante Samuel Jr.

But #Panthers are first today, I'm told. 👇

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (11/5/2025 2:06:33 PM)

Always scary dealing with spinal fusion surgery, but if he can clear medical, it'd be a good risk (at least for us).

Multiple sources are reporting that the Vikings have a meeting lined up with free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who was just recently cleared to return to the field after undergoing offseason neck surgery.

Samuel was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Florida State. After a solid rookie season where he started 12 games, he appeared in all 17 games in 2022 and recorded three interceptions in the first half of the Chargers’ playoff loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He played all 17 games again in 2023 but was limited to just four games in 2024 after suffering a shoulder injury.

In his career, Samuel has appeared in 50 regular season games with 47 starts. He has 6 career interceptions (plus the three from the playoff game mentioned earlier) and 37 passes defended.

Samuel is meeting with the Carolina Panthers today, but also has meetings lined up with the Vikings and the Green Bay Packers if he doesn’t end up signing a deal with Carolina. There had been some rumors floating around during the offseason that the Vikings had a sort of “handshake deal” with Samuel, but apparently those have turned out to be false.

Yet I advocated getting a CB, and look at that... we have a meeting set up with Samuel. Meanwhile, there were not and are not even rumors let alone reports of just mild interest in a RB. Because we don't need one! Especially when, and I'm treading lightly in your imaginary Breece Hall fantasy, we'd have to fork over a pick.

I know you hate being told you're wrong so I won't do that. But about you arguing for some imaginary thing, Tom was right. He used to be my sycophant as was widely known but alas he has bloomed and stands tall on his own. I'm kind of the sycophant whisperer and would train you, but you are too far gone.

So very valid except it didn’t make sense.

EDIT: Bringing in the best talent possible is valid. Going on for days, on a mission to push the most unrealistic option available, to the exclusion of all other options … over and over … with the single-minded ferocity of a rabid koala … gets old.

Tom

You are correct. You are the kind of troll that will turn anything someone posts into a negative. Posting about something, and then defending it after some unwarranted or poor criticism, to you, qualifies as posting about something incessantly.

Had I also posted about CBs, you would have declared those as an unrealistic fantasy, and that I was posting haphazardly about every type of addition, trying to see if something would stick.

You're good. Not. [sm=nahnah.gif]

Bill, I sincerely loved EVERYTHING about your response here.

It showed you did the obvious, the thing everyone else would likely advocate for, the group thing that like minded, small minded people would all agree on, getting a CB. Thinking ahead, and pairing a young RB with a perfect complimentary back that is the same age, takes a little more advanced thinking. You don't worry about money, you make it happen, it's ok to do things a different way (avoiding the overused 'thinking outside the box') when working towards a championship.

I don't like being told I am wrong, most people don't, but you have never been right about anything where you told me I am wrong. I think I am still right about this, and Hall and Mason would have been a great combo. You're wrong if you don't think I ever admit to being wrong. I have a co-worker that I have many times admitted to him that I was wrong many times, to the point now where if we have conflict or argument, I assume he is probably right to begin with, and go from there. That is not the case with you, at all.

Saying you're a 'sycophant whisperer', was quite hilarious, you say hilarious things at times. The fact that you considered teaching me, is quite flattering, and while you're saying I am too far gone to learn it from you may have some validity, it is more accurate that I really have no interest in being that way.

Back to the CB discussion, which could help this team immediately.
