I blame O’Connell for those two big losses at the end of last season. I think he was doing to Darnold what he’s done to McCarthy most of the year. Called very slow developing deep deep receiver, please. That’s why Donald and McCarthy were getting sacked so much.

There were outlets open. Sam just got rattled from the pass rush. He looked like Mahommes did in the SB. But I get where your coming from. O'Connell needs to adjust and call some quick hitters and screen passes and he didn't.

Those routes were and are there.

But San is always going to look for the big play first.

twinsfan -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/21/2025 3:18:07 PM)

We're gonna end up with one of the best records of non-playoff teams. Right where you don't want to be.

David Levine -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/21/2025 3:46:09 PM)

The Vikings lost center Ryan Kelly to what appears to be another concussion. It would be Kelly’s third concussion of this season and the sixth of his career, and it’s definitely starting to be time to wonder whether or not his career might be coming to an end here as well.

Jeff Jesser -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/21/2025 5:42:00 PM)

That sucks. He was playing pretty well and was stringing games together. I was hoping that was a position we wouldn't need to worry about in the offseason.

Besides the total number of concussions, he is trending really bad. Just do an injury settlement or whatever goes on.

Minnesota Vikings center Ryan Kelly has a significant concussion history, including three in the 2025 season alone, bringing his career total to at least seven or eight, with five documented since 2023, leading to serious concerns about his long-term health and potential retirement as of late 2025

2023 Season (Colts): Suffered two concussions within three games, forcing him out for several weeks.

2025 Season (Vikings):
Missed Week 3 after a concussion in Week 2.
Returned in Week 4, then went back into protocol at halftime, leading to a stint on injured reserve.
Returned from IR but suffered a third concussion in the 2025 season in a December 2025 game against the Giants, raising significant doubts about his future.

O'Connell called the same games that Darnold had played all year in piling up 14 wins. The offense was the same. The line was the same. The difference was that the stage was bigger. Darnold was also 27 year old vet in his 7th season. McCarthy is 22 and in his first season.

So I guess the other teams don't matter?

Darnold played against two of the elite defenses in the league the last two games. They had figured out that the Minnesota offensive line was the worst in the league. He was under siege.

You will create any argument to substantiate your point. You have no shame.

Meanwhile, the Vikings went from being 60 minutes from the #1 seed last year to finishing last in the NFC North this season. Their current quarterback is a turnover machine.

14-3

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 9:24:53 AM)

Two elite defenses?

Lions points against at the end of the season:
GB 31
Buff 48
Chi 17
SF 34
That's 33.5 ppg. Then Darnold chokes and Minny scores 9.

And the Rams defense was 27th in TDs allowed. 23rd in QBR. 27th in YPA.

He's choked his way right into a 12-3 record again this year, including five straight wins down the stretch when it matters.

Before you finish your tap dance, why don't you go remove your silly post about him playing two elite defenses to close out last year.

Don't get lost in the numbers. The Lions were in a lot of shootouts because their offense scored a billion points. They were very opportunistic. Sixth in the league in interceptions. 10th in total turnovers. They also had an entirely new secondary after about week 10 due to injuries.

Aaron Glenn did a masterful job against the Vikings, and Kevin O'Connell made no adjustments. He pressured from everywhere and Darnold had no chance. The Rams copied the plan a week later, the tune of nine sacks.

As they have said for years, it is a copycat league.

Spouting 14-3 is where you get lost in numbers while ignoring 0-2.

Due to injuries? You're getting warmer... warmer...

It has been well documented in here with video evidence that Darnold missed many wide open receivers against Lions. He froze.

It's okay to say he had a bad game.

I think we would be in the hunt for 7th spot if we had Darnold. But, we made a decision to go with a QB on rookie contract instead of a QB with a nine figure contract.

Mark Anderson -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 9:59:26 AM)

One more thing on DET game last year.

The MN defense handed the offense the ball many times in the red zone and we did nothing with it. If Darnold had played like he did against GB in earlier games, we would have had a 20 point lead at halftime.

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 10:20:44 AM)

It's quite pathetic that for the better part of a year a guy shows up on a Minnesota Vikings talk site and posts "14-3" as a high water mark to prove he is right about a QB who plays for another team.

Lars -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 10:54:17 AM)

So, the Vikings won again yesterday - three in a row! And some people wanna throw chum in the water to talk about some choking dog QB who isn't even on the team?! WTFE. That whole schtick is sooooo tired.

I thought JJM was playing pretty well yesterday! If Addison and Nailor can remember how to catch the ****ing ball, the offense is looking pretty damn good!

Ryan is done. Fries is mediocre. Allen and Hargrave need to go. Stealing game checks.

The choke job by the Puke.......LMFAO! If only it didn't 't benefit the Bears!

And DET has totally fallen back to Earth. Wonder if their window has closed....

+1

Also Brad H went from saying "Drafting a 1st round QB" like the Chiefs did with Mahomes to "we need to keep the USC QB, I mean Darnold"

The point is he is 22....

Peyton's rookie year 26 TDs, 28 INTs (he was 22). The kid needs snaps as he is at game 11 in his career and if he can't stay healthy that is the biggest issue.

The 0-2 mean nothing without the 14-3. If they had been 7-9 heading into the last two games you wouldn't even remember the final two games.

So basically, what you are saying is that you can improve after your first season in the league but not after your seventh?

In the last two weeks with a lot on the line, Sam Darnold led his team to wins over Indianapolis and Los Angeles.

TJSweens -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 12:24:52 PM)

14-3 followed by an 0-2 shitting of the bed is why Darnold is Cousins 2.0. Put up some nice numbers, get a good team to the playoffs and then let everyone down. All of this only costs $33M a year. If that's all you want, he's your guy.

You do realize Indianapolis has lost four straight right?

And in their last 6 games they are 1-5 with the lone win in OT against lowly Atlanta.

WOW. Any more softballs?

Bill Johanesen -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 12:41:52 PM)

We've learned two things from Brad today:

- Last December, the Lions defense was "elite".

- It's a big deal to beat Indy when they are in the midst of a four game losing streak (or 1-5 since Nov 2).

I feel like Ohtani at batting practice.

marty -> RE: General Vikes Talkk (12/22/2025 1:34:02 PM)

The 0-2 mean nothing without the 14-3

The 14-3 means nothing without the 0-2.

The Seahawks beat the Rams and the Colts, mostly despite Sam, he was mostly bad for 3 quarters, thankfully both games were at home. Had they been on the road, pretty strong chance both games would have been losses.

I don't know if you can count on Sam for more than 1 4th quarter drive, but he has been capable of one; Seattle has plenty of talent, maybe they are a team of destiny?

1) You trumpeted drafting a Mahomes for years....now didn't you?
2) So they (Vikings FO) do what you trumpeted but the only reason you are against it is your USC boy....now isn't it?
3) You know the division isn't won yet......SF is on the horizon and playoffs haven't started yet.

If it doesn't work so be it....but you aren't even giving him as much time as Darnold got with the Jets.

You have to let it play out more....unless you can trade for Burrow. Instantly. Darnold---nope.
