Damn.
Struggling right now.
Didn't think they would, with this roster.
Seems everyone's stepped up the "we're playing the champs" rallying cry lately.
Gotta bring it every night, ladies.

The flop was a ridiculous call, basically ending the game for the Lynx. Took the steam right out of "our" sails. Tough loss, owing to the way they battled back in the fourth, but in all fairness they probably deserved to lose.

Hopefully they learn something from these types of games when the post-season rolls around. Their "gutty" comebacks earlier in the season set them up for some complacency later in the year…

A year ago they were hungrier. (that's to be expected) Nevertheless, you want to play your best basketball at the end of the season. Isn't the season split up because of the Olympics, though? Maybe they're coasting a bit to make it to the break.

Julie Wojta back with the Lynx on a 7 day contract.

Julie Wojta really impressed members of the Minnesota Lynx organization during training camp this spring, so much so that it wasn’t an easy decision to let her go despite essentially having their 11-person roster set prior to camp.

That’s why when Wojta, the 18th overall pick in last April’s WNBA Draft, left Minnesota after the team’s final cuts, coach Cheryl Reeve let her know that if any unforeseen situations arose during the season she should be ready to return.

“Coach Reeve told me when I left to be ready and expect a call,” Wojta said. “So I took that seriously like a job. I continued to work and obviously I’m glad I did.”

Wojta, a guard/forward, returned to the Lynx on Monday for the team’s practice at LifeTime Fitness Training Center before the squad took an early afternoon flight to Tulsa. She’ll be in uniform when the Lynx and Shock square off on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.

She’s back with the Lynx on a seven-day contract, a roster move made because forward Rebekkah Brunson is expected to miss the next two games with a left calf sprain. Brunson, Jess Adair (right knee) and Devereaux Peters (broken left hand) are all currently injured, and per league rules a team can sign a 12th player if three roster spots are unavailable.

With the league’s month-long hiatus beginning after Thursday’s game, Wojta is expected to remain with the team through the Olympic break even though she is signed to a week-long deal.

Returning due to a teammate’s injury isn’t an ideal way to rejoin the team, but Wojta said she’s still excited to be back and is equally happy that Minnesota decided to have her back in this situation.

“It’s just nice to know that I feel comfortable here and having those 2 ½ weeks of practice earlier this year, and just fortunate that they liked what they saw and gave me a call,” Wojta said.

The Lynx staff like Wojta’s work ethic and her reputation for being “a gamer” while in college at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. She led the Horizon League with 19.5 points and 3.8 steals per game as a senior. During two preseason games with the Lynx, she scored nine points and added nine rebounds.

Reeve said the team’s familiarity with her game was a big draw for adding her to the squad.

“It’s great to have someone who is experienced in camp and gets us through some tough situations,” Reeve said. “I don’t know how much she’ll play, but I know she’ll play hard when she’s called upon.”

Wojta spent her summer training with the UW-Green Bay women’s basketball program. She continued her weight lifting regimen and participated in speed and agility drills to keep herself prepared.

She’s joining a Lynx squad that is coming off three straight losses and looking to end the first half of the season on a strong note. That means the team’s two games against Tulsa this week are extra important. Wojta said the team isn’t lacking confidence despite the recent losing streak.

“You’re going to have that throughout the season,” she said. “You’re going to have adversity. Coming in I didn’t know what to expect, but they’re really positive. They know what they’re capable of doing and all the talent they have on this team. The energy is still high, and you can tell it hasn’t affected their confidence. They still know they’re a good basketball team.”

Yeah but it was just the Shock. We have some pretty significant injuries going on right now. Sparks just one game back in the standings but two in the loss column.

That was surprising to me the all time record was 65% for a game. Lynx shattered that at over 69%.

Maya Moore leads another Lynx win over the shock with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Rookie Glory Johnson, that many thought the Lynx should have drafted had 30 points and 14 boards for the shock. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think the Olympics start around the same time as Vikings training camp. Pretty soon!

TV listing for Women's Basketball , (and all other sports as well) can be found at this NBC web page :

http://www.nbcolympics.com/get-local/tvlistings.html

Lots of coverage on the NBC family of stations
There are specialty channels for soccer & basketball and looks like they run repeats of game.

For those with Comcast digital cable in the western metro, 895 is the Basketball channel (896 the soccer channel)

Game 1 for the USA Women’s b-ball team is Sat morning 7/28at 10:45am ct, looks like on NBC and the Basketball channel.

and another blowout for Team USA. Check out the fierce showing by Lindsay Whalen (yeah, she's washed up)...

> 18 minutes
> 14 points on 5/8 shooting (incl. 0/1 on 3pt)
> 2 assists
> 7 rebounds
> 0 fouls against 5 fouls drawn
> 4/5 on FTs

Turkey was supposed to be the first "real test" - 31 point differential!

People will keep misrepresenting what I said about Whalen. All I said was her BEST SEASON was probably in her past. That is very different from saying she is washed up. Can anybody prove that right or wrong? I don't think so. I have noticed she has had a good run with Team USA and that makes me happy.

Lindsays been OUTSTANDING imo.
They keep bringing up the Auriemma quote, how she's so much better than he imagined.
LOVE her game. Facilitates, creates for EVERYONE.
You play the game right, you fill the lanes, you hustle, she WILL get you the ball.
And occasionally score herself. Love the sneaky layups once they start laying off her expecting pass.
She's a treat to watch, imo.

Because Bird played for Auriemma at UConn.

See, I was thinking more along the lines of the team needs a closer. Who was on the floor to close yesterday? The group included Whalen, Augustus, and Moore...

I guess the Lynx representation on the ladies olympic team is similar to OKC's in mens basketball. Augustus/Durant Whalen/Westbrook and Moore/Harden.

Very interesting OTL piece on Seimone Augustus.
Glad she's getting support from everyone who means something to her. (and that the league and sponsors have not bailed on her)
