Status: offline 		I think the league and the sponsors know who butters their bread - a large percentage of people going to WNBA games play for the same team, and those who don't are probably more likely to be supportive than not, I wager.

Status: offline 		I see Becky Hammon playing for the Russians and was curious how that happened. I found this:

After learning that, once again, she would not be invited to try out for the US national team, Hammon announced she would try to claim a roster slot on the Russian national team in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. Hammon became a Russian citizen in 2008. The coach of Russia's team, Igor Grudin, is also the sports director of the CSKA team that Hammon plays for in Moscow during the WNBA off-season. Hammon also signed a three-year extension with the CSKA team at around the same time she was named as a prospect for the national team.
Hammon's decision to play for Russia was controversial in American basketball.[3] In some circles she was branded an American traitor, with then-U.S. national coach Anne Donovan questioning her patriotism. "If you play in this country, live in this country, and you grow up in the heartland and you put on a Russian uniform, you are not a patriotic person in my mind," Donovan said.[4]
Hammon responded to Donovan's criticism saying, "You don't know me. You don't know what that flag means to me. You don't know how I grew up. The biggest honor in our classroom was who could put up the (American) flag, roll it up right, not let the corners touch the ground. Obviously we definitely define patriotism differently." She has also stated. "I love my country. I love our national anthem. It absolutely gives me chills sometimes. I feel honored to be an American, to be from America because of what we stand for."[4] Hammon said she played for Russia primarily to play on the Olympic stage, and it was not a purely financial decision. Although by obtaining Russian citizenship, her salary with CSKA tripled, and she was eligible to make $250,000 for winning a gold medal for Russia. She would have received a $150,000 bonus for winning a silver medal.

I guess that it's a little controversial.

She doesn't appear to realize that she is no longer an American. And she did it for $. Her choice. Not like it's a crime or anything, but it is what it is.

Lindsays been OUTSTANDING imo.
They keep bringing up the Auriemma quote, how she's so much better than he imagined.
LOVE her game. Facilitates, creates for EVERYONE.
You play the game right, you fill the lanes, you hustle, she WILL get you the ball.
And occasionally score herself. Love the sneaky layups once they start laying off her expecting pass.
She's a treat to watch, imo.


I can see how he would say that, with her JUST having burst on the scene.

Status: offline 		Congratulations to the American ladies for their dominating performance in basketball, and a lot of other sports. Weren't 2 out of 3 American gold medals awarded to ladies?

She is still an American. She obtained citizenship in Russia. You don't have to renounce your U.S. citizenship to do that. It's called dual citizenship.

Lynx Lead is down to one over the Sparks, but is actually up by two in the loss column. Lynx next two games are against the 4 win Mystics and the three win Shock. Barring a MASSIVE upset the Lynx will then have a two game lead with just three games remaining regular season. Should wrap up home field advantage throughout the playoffs again.
The Sparks are the team that concerns me the most. Parker and ROY Ogwumike make them dangerous.

As Tulsa makes another appearance, with regards to GloJo & her last visit; keep in mind the Lynx were down 3 post players (Brunson, Peters Adair) in that meeting. G. Johnson was/is starting because:
1) PF- Tiffany Jackson is pregnant; 2) 6-8 C Liz Cambage was with the Australian Olympic team & 3) PF Jen Lacy had her knee scoped a few wks into the season. Lacy is now back but Cambage is not due to return for another wk. So it's good to see a rookie make the most of their minutes.

But Brunson & Peters are also back and healthy and Jess Adair is back post-knee early season knee surgery. She got a few minutes on Fri night so that was good. Johnson will have more to deal with this time than 41 yr old Taj & undersized PF Maya Moore. Johnson can play but I’m still happy we took Dev Peters.

We’ll see how things go for the Shock tonight. They’ll fight for 40 mins but I expect the Lynx to win handily.

Status: offline 		Question for those who have been watching a lot of Lynx. I have watched a couple of games and bits and pieces of a few others. Who is now the best player on the team? Augustus is such a great shooter and deadly efficient scorer, Lyndsay runs the show and Maya Moore is probably the player putting up the best all around stats. What you all think?

No it isn't if I have anything to do with it. Just an intellectual pursuit to get opinions on who is the best player on the team. Last year IMO Lyndsay was the best player on the team in the regular season but Seimone emerged in the post season. Now it looks like Maya Moore is stepping up to possibly claim the distinction of best player on the team. It is fun that we are in a position to evaluate this question.

Status: offline 		Lynx get another easy win. The Seattle Storm 86-73. Augustus 22, Moore 20, Brunson 20 and 14 boards. Moore also had a season or career high seven assists. I haven't seen the games since the olympics but Moore must be handling the ball a lot now to be getting so many assists lately.

Agreed. Silver Spurs have won 12 in a row I guess and Sparks are nipping at our heels.
