You're right, I heard O'Connell had more to do with designing plays. McVay did NOT want to lose O'Connell last offseason.

So who was the last HC we hired who was a non-playcalling OC with his previous team?

If he is willing to sign for $13.5 million a year I would think Arizona would have done that deal instantly.

This is a well written article about Stafford:

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/matthew-stafford-gave-the-rams-a-shot-at-a-title-the-rams-gave-stafford-a-shot-at-canton/

Looking at the comparisons with Stafford and Goff, I wonder how Kirk does against man coverage, beating blitzes, 4th quarter, and some of the other things mentioned ?

How can someone be named a "Most Valuable Player" when he was caught putting his teammates at risk by lying about his vaccine status? How is that valuable in any sense of the word?

And when the same guy created so much drama even before the season started with his "will he or won't he play for the team that holds his contract?" that forced his teammates to constantly have to answer the same questions - how is that valuable for his team?

Stats aren't everything that should go into a decision like naming an MVP. "Value" encompasses a whole lot more than that.

How can the MVP not include playoffs and super bowl as factors?

Total sham.

Good point Tom, I sometimes think of the regular season as a pre-season for the playoffs.

Do we have a winner? Haven't heard yet.

Well the argument for not including the playoffs would be you'd never have a winner that was on a team that didn't make the playoffs. That's easy for us arm chair QBs to deal with but some damn good players would be eliminated due to team success ... and we're talking football where there are what we've always been told 3 phases (O, D, ST) to the game with 11 on a side at a time. Harder for one person to control the outcome as much as that sport that plays 5 v. 5.

Do you mean, some good players would be eliminated because they were on non-playoff or on non-super bowl teams ?

I would argue that all games (including playoff games and the SB) should be used as part of the evaluation.

MVP is a regular season award. As is ROY and DPOY.

Voters are not suppose to incorporate anything other than the players play on the field.

Really "big" games happen in the playoffs. A player who chokes in the playoffs, that SHOULD be a big part of the consideration.

Looks like $13.75M/yr just a little too much.

Murrray really went down after a nice start to the season. His playoff performance didn't look good. I can't see paying him over $10 million a year.

Since KC and MS have similar stats, If Stafford has a really good Super Bowl, or a really poor Super Bowl, will that affect the trade value of Cousins ?

Interesting how Aaron Rodgers tested positive right before an away game at KC, a game that might have affected his MVP status, had he had a poor performance compared to Mahomes.

Also interesting that KC tested positive right before an away game where he may have looked bad, playing at the Packers, who were playing for homefield and a bye.
