Rudolph is not as important after Diggs/Thielen combo became prominent. We find a more dependable #3 and/or throw more to the RB and it will dilute his targets more....

Rudy is what he is. He is a big, slow moving target with good hands, who doesn't make block particularly well and doesn't get significant YAC. This makes him a great target from deep in the red zone and on 3rd and short. It does not make him Gronk light. He doesn't suck, but neither is he game changer. Teams really don't have to game plan for him. I have no problem with keeping him for one year. I wouldn't be upset if they moved him either.

Now that the Vikings are under the cap with Rudolph, the Vikings don't have to get beat up with the low ball offers for Rudolph. They can be patient and wait until a tight end on another team goes down with an injury or they can cut him in September.

Remember when Hunter, Kendricks, Diggs, and Barr were all set to be FA? I thought we'd be able to sign 2, maybe 3 tops.

I read a lot of comments regarding the amount of first downs Rudy gets and how valuable that is. Here is a list of the top 36 tight ends for total first downs in 2018 then broken down to % of catches that are first downs. Like I said, 3rd and short, he's great. 3rd and long, not so much.

Tied for 8th with Jimmy Graham. Just behind Vance McDonald and just ahead of Austin Hooper.

Looks like today's #Vikings moves should leave them with in the neighborhood of $620,000 of salary-cap room.

I misread. They said converting half of Kendricks base salary of 4.5M. I used 4.5 as the cap reduction number.

It does however, minimize the long term affects of the deal. Only 400k added to each of the remaining years in his contract.

This time of year we are always looking for reasons to be optimistic. This writer makes some tremendous points. Basically, we are going to be better set up to utilize our strengths and in particular with Cousins.

Call the last 3 months the dark times. I've come full circle on the team. My eyes are lighting up any time I think about the what ifs.

I'm 100% in. This is it. This year. It's happening.

14-2 with the 2 losses being more of the loss vs the Bucs in 98 variety.

It's all there. The good the bad and the ugly. They expect Mitchell to instantly become WR3 for the Vikings.

So looks like the entire interior of our OL will be new starters, will probably be halfway into the season before the unit is hitting on all cylinders. I like our early schedule, if we can go 3-2 in the first 5 games we should be aight. 4-1 is a possibility, 2-0 at Packers and Bears is a lot to ask for.

You counting Elf as a new starter because of new position?

I was wondering if Elflein makes the team. I know that's a crazy thought, but I was wondering what surprises are coming. Maybe it would be a surprise if just Elflein isn't a starter.

So maybe that's too much, but anyone else want to speculate on a surprise. I mean, if some of these rookies make the roster an established player may have to be cut.

I would not be surprised if he is not a starter.

I would be shocked if cut. He's got experience at center and guard. Redundant with Jones, but I'd expect Elf to be better in the new scheme and is younger. Can't see them pulling the plug on him completely this soon.

i thought the same, but i've been reading about olabisi johnson and now i'm thinking that he could be the one...he's got huge hands - much larger than mitchell's...i think we did well drafting both of those guys where we did....

The only reason thought of it was that I saw the film on his play in the Bears game and I wondered how his transition to guard will be.

Spielman doesn't cut his losses on higher draft picks this early. Willie Beavers is the highest pick I can think of that left relatively early. Elf will be around at least two more years even if last year's play level is representative. Then again, other than Treadwell, most early picks have been worth keeping.
