Exactly Phil. Forget the 2 players we got in return. If they amount to anything it's gravy. That's not the meat and taters of this deal.

Zucker was demoted to the 4th line. To get from under his contract is huge, not to mention a #1, salary relief, and free up a spot for the Russian kid. The prospect and Galyenchuck are a bonus.

Ding ding
maybe Addison pans out or he doesn't ….
maybe Galchenyuk suddenly gets it, or he doesn't …
maybe the draft pick turns into something, or it doesn't ….
we're simply not out much, at this point. Imo.
I won't be pissed at Guerin years from now about that blockbuster deal where we gave away the great Jason Zucker.
Flashy kid who built a loving fan base, showed some flash, then settled into mediocrity. See ya.
Even if he wins a Cup or two there (not happening), it's not like he would have got it done here.
He needed a change of scenery, we needed a change of personnel. Couple more to go.
And a couple internal moves needed too. Leadership of the room is big. As was said, theres some happening already. Keep going on that, too.

Hell, I'll die still thinking Schroeder would have produced as much as Zucker did …. if given a true opp.

Yeap. This pretty much sums it up (taken from your paste):

Guerin did not an outstanding job of getting a significant return for a winger who had been demoted to the fourth line and had been the subject of trade speculation dating to last season.

I agree that he "did not an outstanding job of getting a significant return" for Zucker. We got:

A. an underachieving guy that, if he sticks, won't be significant (he won't stick).
B. a much worse player than the proven 46
C. a first round pick (this is the best of the deal)

So, all in all, a salary dump and first rounder to make way for the Russian. Don't get me wrong. It was worth it but lets not roll out the parade carpet for this. Zucker was done in Minny and this was the 'haul' Billy could get.

You took an obvious typo and IMO a ridiculous take on the trade. Their #1 prospect and their FRP is indeed a haul.

I thought it was quite clever.

+1
Zucker is overrated to our benefit now. He was given 1st and 2nd Line Status undeservedly. You see Mikko moved down finally also....it should have happened early to a few of these guys as mentioned by Jeff, Scott, etc. more advanced hockey minds. I know that I watched Sturm and Mayhew show more in a few games than I saw out of many of Zucker.

I remember those 2-3 years where Schroeder would come up and just race up and down the ice......and no one wanted to give him full time. He was just as good as Zucker.

Nah, there is no maybe there. He is a pure salary dump and nothing more.

What Guerin did here amazes me on two fronts.

1. He convinced Leo that sustaining a team at a "just good enough to make the playoffs" level is an exercise in futility. You can't tweak this roster and make it a contender.

2. He moved an underachieving coaster, who was more interested in being a local celebrity than a hockey player and cleared significant cap space and acquired two chances at productive future players. (sorry, I still consider Addison to be just as valuable as the pick).

I would have been happy with a lesser deal, so this is great in my world.

So we kept Zucker over Haula and/or Tuch....that is what still upsets me. For some reason there was this thought that only a presumed bad guy (Haula) can screw up a locker room.....We have many perceived good guys screwing up this locker room.

Sweens on the pick and Addison we are hopefully brilliant minds thinking alike.

Speaking of Alex Tuch now that the dust has pretty much settled on him how big of a loss was he. Currently a -9 with 15 points over 40 games. Those numbers don't impress, but I know they don't tell the whole story. Last year he had 52 points.

Regarding Wild prospects I just looked up the top five list at NHL.com from last August.

#1 Sturm
#2 Boldy
#3 Kaprizov

I thought Kaprizov was supposed to be all that and a bag of chips. Is NHL.com full of shit? How did we manage to sign Sturm Free agent? Was he undrafted and bloomed late?

True. A quick perusal of other sites than NHL shows Kaprizov rock solid as the Wild's #1 prospect. Another one that shows up a lot in our top 3 is Alexander Khovanov, also of Russia.

thehockeywriters.com has Kaprizov as the # 8 NHL prospect over all. Calen Addison is rated #79.

Thanks. I'm a very casual follower of the Wild. I was a die hard fan of the North Stars. I'm trying to get myself excited about the Wild. I just can't seem to do it.

As a player, Guerin would have skated through the end boards with no pads for a win. He wont accept anything less from his players.
