I always viewed Rhodes through Patriots goggles. He seems the type of player they would avoid paying to retain or gain assets to continue to build their team. Even guys like Harrison Smith, they are good, but you have to keep in mind that you don't want to be paying premium prices for them when they are no longer good. But, whatever, it was an entertaining game for the most part. I did not like Cousins' final pass. I thought he had a better open with the RB leaking out, but Cousins seemed locked into Irv. Otherwise, I thought Cousins helped keep the hope boat afloat. Rudy had some nice catches. Mattison had some good runs. I liked that guy who got the last sack on Wilson. He seemed to make that sack happen on nothing but will. Rhodes has got to be done at this point, unless an offensive lineman reports as an eligible receiver. Then he can come in and cover that guy...maybe. As for Zimmer, eh...I've been done with Zimmer for quite a while, so not much to say. It was a typical Zimmer game. We know what we have with him at this point. Diggs could do a little less preening and a bit more catching at times. Our D is toast and has been for a long time when it counts. The Saints game has been mentioned, but I think it goes back even further than that. Luck broke our defense December 18, 2016. They flat-out quit in that game and their elite mystique was then gone. They then started sliding into beating up on weak teams and being average against good teams until finally being what we have today. I thought the wins against Dallas and Denver were nice but kind of fool's gold. Garrett-led Dallas is guaranteed to do head-scratching things at times, like running twice on their last series when they were killing us with the pass, and then Denver had a weak QB. We were fortunate in both of those games at the end. Seattle is a much better measuring stick, and we actually hung with them to a degree. Like what would have happened if Rhodes wasn't in there? How about if Diggs pulls his head out and makes the catches he had his hand on? In a game like that, little things loom large. Of course, it goes both ways. What if Wilson didn't volleyball the football to us? Anyway, I am curious to see what a no-Rhodes defense looks like. He was killing us and guys got to be questioning his presence and the coach for leaving him in there. I think benching him is one proactive thing they can do going forward to try to help the defense.
